Ideal boob size if you're a 12 otherwise

DuckyMcDuck · 28/08/2020 20:17

Bits of an odd one this, I have prosthetic boobs after a double mastectomy due to breast cancer. When I got them I was about 13 stone and a size 16. They are D cup.

6 years later I am 10.5 stone and a size 10/12 and they need replacing but I'm not sure what size I should go for. I feel what I have is quite big especially as they don't really look like real boobs. The prosthetics are really expensive so can't afford to make a mistake and as all the 'boob shops' are closed atm, I need to buy online.

So, my question is, if you're tall (5"10) and a size 12, what is an ideal boob size?

I don't think I look particularly big. In my running bra I look quite small. I don't wear under wired bras, now, though.

veryvery · 29/08/2020 08:19

Oh excuse the typo in my first post!🤦‍♀️

Tootletum · 29/08/2020 08:22

I'm a small size 12 and a 32F.

veryvery · 29/08/2020 08:22

Oh and if you look at the sizing box they tell you what size number prosthesis to what bra size.

MynephewR · 29/08/2020 08:28

I'm 5'4 and size 12. I'm a 34FF/G. I'd love to be a D or DD, I think that would be in proportion.

veryvery · 29/08/2020 08:28

And Asda and Matalan do very affordable post mastectomy (sometimes labelled post surgery) bras which you can return if they don't fit.

Lexilooo · 29/08/2020 08:32

I'm not sure why people are talking about whether or not they can go braless. The OP is talking about prosthetics not implants. She will need a bra or something to hold the prosthetic in place.

Anyway, I am 5ft8, when I was a size 12 I was in a 32DD and didn't look excessively booby.

OliviaBenson · 29/08/2020 08:38

What's your measurement around your rib cage op?

DuckyMcDuck · 29/08/2020 08:55

Wow, thanks for all the replies.

I currently wear a 36D and I'm thinking I may go down to a C. My actual boobs were FF which I never really liked especially once age took over and they started to move southward Grin

I got my original prosthetics from a Nicola Jane shop but that's now closed. They cost over £300 so I may see if I can buy online and return if they're not right.

Thanks again Flowers

That's ok. The swim prosthesis is only just over £11 (per single) so definitely worth getting that for an affordable wear about to see if you like the size. They are sponge but they work fine. And just looked but m & s do sponge breast forms for £10. They only size in SML though not the standard prosthesis number sizes.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 29/08/2020 10:10

I’m 5ft 1, size 12/14 depending on where I shop and am a 32G and I think I look in proportion :)

ChaChaCha2012 · 29/08/2020 10:17

Please look at the Boob or Bust model for measuring. If you're a size 12 it's extremely unlikely you're a 36 back (unless you're particularly athletic as mentioned earlier). More likely you're a 32E or thereabouts.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 29/08/2020 10:19

Im a 30E or a 32DD, I wouldnt want them any bigger than this, Id prefer smaller because personally I just find boobs annoying but I do think they look quite in proportion at this size.

Best thing to do is probably try on a couple of different sizes of bra with some rice boobs and then different clothes you like to wear and see which suits you best. Get your back size properly measured as well

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/08/2020 10:23

I’m pretty sure 90% of women on this thread are wearing the wrong size from their descriptions, please please give this a go booborbust.com/

I’m a size 12 and generally about a 32FF/G (currently pregnant so out of whack) they’re a nice medium size, not too big, but enough to fill out a dress. A good medium size that will work for most. It’s very unlikely a 36 anything was correct for you in the first place, even being tall.

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/08/2020 10:25

@yawnsvillex if your a small 10/12 I bet you any money you any money you’re not a 34 anything. Do give Boob or Bust a go.

Polkadotties · 29/08/2020 10:26

I’m 5ft6 and when I was 10.5st I was a small 10 big 8. I wore 30E

veryvery · 29/08/2020 11:14

The thing about boob or bust measuring that I found is that it doesn't work for people who have had mastectomies! Can't lean over etc with either one or both boobs missing! Also the tight as possible back band might press too much on scar tissue. Skin is very thin after a mastectomy. I personally go for something in between traditional method and newer methods. I add inches but not as many as you would traditionally. So get a band size smaller than you would with traditional methods and a band size bigger than with newer methods. I use the guides on sister sizes to judge cup size.

veryvery · 29/08/2020 11:19

The type of prosthesis you get might also affect what band size is comfortable. Silicone prostheses are quite heavy so a bra won't ride up so you can possibly afford to go looser. A soft prosthesis made of sponge or with stuffing material inside is very light so a slightly snugger band stops the bra shifting about.

I'm 5'9 and a size 10, I'm quite a narrow frame and a 34 B.

I am a size 12/14 and 5 ft 7. For me my current boob size (28G) looks a bit small. I think I would probably look better with bigger boobs.
Mrsmophead · 29/08/2020 11:31

32ff. I'm a small size 10 and 5ft 7. I wear a lot of scrubs and always wear a sports bra when I'm working and no one notices. I used it find them too much but I've grown into them 😊

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/08/2020 11:46

@veryvery yes boob or bust does only gives a starting size though, not an exact ‘this is exactly what you are’ size, which it says on the calculator, there’s so many variables to getting the right fit (in the boobs and the bras) mastectomies and prosthesis being big big ones. Understanding how a bra should fit helps to work with that starting size, which unfortunately so many women are just unaware of. The BoB Facebook group is great for getting more direct fit help beyond that starting size.

remainin · 29/08/2020 11:53

I'm 5'7, size 12, bra size 36B. I had a breast reduction after DC were both weaned as I was a 38G and in a lot of discomfort/pain in my neck and shoulders. Now perfectly happy and, I feel, well proportioned.

Rebelwithallthecause · 29/08/2020 11:59

I’m a 12 and 5ft 4 and currently a 32F or a 34E

Before kids I was a 32D/34C but prefer my size now

OliviaBenson · 29/08/2020 14:36

If you are a narrow frame I don't think you are wearing the right size. You should try boob or bust method!
