What do you rate from Body Shop? Have a 50 GBP gift voucher which I'm keen to use before I forget.

I know op thread has been somewhat de-railed, but i must thank those who have as ive now been educated...

My next derailing question (sorry op)
Whats the problem with lush?

And next, if body shop and lush are off the menu for "ethical" beauty products off the High Street, where do I shop now?! I am a huge fan of lush, as is my family. Are they on the no-no list now too? If so, why?

I shop for principles, used to support body shop years ago, but steadily moved to lush who were much less corrupted imo.

Lardlizard · 26/08/2020 23:36

Grapefruit spray mmm and the British rose one too

Canklesforankles · 26/08/2020 23:51

The Hemp hand protector in the silver tube is good.
The advent calendars are fun.

I no longer shop there but like lots of products in Superdrug and Holland and Barret, especially when they have offers on.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 26/08/2020 23:53

Lush UK and the Aussie arm have both recently said that if you try to enter their shop as a customer whilst wearing a t-shirt with the dictionary definition of the word 'woman' on it you will be refused service and asked to leave. I think that was in the last week or two though, and I don't think it was their first arsey anti-woman statement. I've never liked their stuff so don't pay much attention.

NutellaEyes · 27/08/2020 04:16

Thank you all for your replies. I wasn't aware of their stance on women and treatment of JKR. I feel quite put off their products now that I know even though I was gifted the voucher. I'll see if Refuge would take it or sell it and donate.

I think I will go back to independent sellers on Etsy and DIYing. Thanks again.

I like the sun screen and the body butters.

I really like that they take a sustainable approach, although they could do better on packaging.

Boireannachlaidir · 27/08/2020 06:57

I've stopped buying from them too since that disgraceful tweet. One of my friends now posts about her Bodyshop from home venture & I feel bad as ordinarily I'd support her. But never again! They don't like women nor do they know what a woman is.

Sorry not helpful to you OP.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 27/08/2020 07:06

I really really hope that someone from Body Shop marketing is reading thus thread.

CasuallyMasculine · 27/08/2020 07:50

Their excessive packaging means that they don’t take a sustainable approach! In the early days of Body Shop, they were pioneers in offering a refill service for their products. No one else was doing it. Now they’ve become irrelevant - others are doing what they do far better, cheaper and without the side helping of misogyny (except for Lush, of course, which is in a class of own on that one).

Malin52 · 27/08/2020 07:59

Great choice OP!

For alternatives (please not Lush they are even worse) try Ethique. No plastic either

Please can someone explain lush to me??
Byallmeans · 27/08/2020 08:07

I won’t buy from them again after they went on twitter to ridicule a women who was sticking up for women’s rights. No need for it. Not the kind of company I want to spend my money on

I hope so too. They are an ill informed disgrace.

Sorry to have helped derailed your thread OP but it still makes my blood boil but I hide it well.

Are Lush trans friendly also? Good to know, thanks.
MsWonderful · 27/08/2020 08:53

Do you think “trans friendly” necessarily means “women unfriendly”? Why is that? Please explain!

TheChampagneGalop · 27/08/2020 09:44

Lush thinks sexual harassment should be part of the job for women.

Unfortunately I don't think it will make any difference. The misogyny and contempt for women that they've been displaying with must come from the top down.
FaffingForEngland · 27/08/2020 10:14

Hopefully they'll have to take notice when their latest sales figures come in. There aren't many companies I'd wish to go bust, but if Natura (who I think also own Avon) end up having to close then down, I won't be sad.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 27/08/2020 10:22

Anything satsuma. DD loves all the bath bombs and fizzy bath stuff. Body shop are about the only brand that doesn't bring her out in a rash.

Also the make in the UK so you are contributing to the UK economy

Dump the pyramid scheme MLM

An apology to JK Rowling

This, absolutely.
Skyliner001 · 27/08/2020 22:29

Oh yes I forgot the bath bombs! And the handcream. Vanilla pumpkin is fun 😊

littlebillie · 27/08/2020 23:25

Nope never again

MsWonderful · 27/08/2020 23:39

@Wearywithteens

“MsWonderful Do you think “trans friendly” necessarily means “women unfriendly”? Why is that? Please explain!”

Trans friendly is fine. Denial of the biological reality of women’s lives is not. Adding to the vile bullying of JKR is not.

Yes I completely agree! I was replying to the post before mine, I didn’t make that clear
failingmother · 02/09/2020 18:32

Almond milk and honey body butter. Buy something quick before the joy is totally sucked out of it for you here.
