Where do we stand on over the knee boots at 50?

So, I have always wanted a pair of suede over the knee boots to wear with loose jumper dresses etc. I turn 50 this year and now thinking maybe I'm just too old, though my legs are surprisingly good for my age (and the baggy jumper dresses will hide my middle aged tum) x

I’m 48 and have two pairs. I find them very practical in the autumn/winter. They keep my legs lovely and warm!

That photo is exactly like the pair I want. Suede, nearly flat and just over the knee. I'm not after thigh high boots.

Don't care what age you are, def a no from me I'm afraid.

Life is too short, wear the boots! I love OTK flat boots. Got three pairs Blush two in suede one in leather. Age 34 but I'd wear them whatever age tbh, it's all about what you wear them with. I also don't care if I look like a pirate 😉 some of the coolest people (Keith Richards) have a distinctly piratical style!

I think if you have the legs they looks gorgeous and really quite classy - we are not necessarily talking Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman here!

I know, without ever trying a pair on, that they would look horrific on me, and also probably get caught on my minge as I have such short legs! Grin

I don't think they're flattering

JaceLancs · 23/08/2020 22:59

I’m 56 with ok ish legs though am only 5’4” quite long proportion wise
I have some amazing chestnut brown Russell & Bromley boots which have a turn up cuff so can be below or above knee - I love them but it really depends on what I’m wearing as to whether they look right or not

Similar to these but in brown

@Immigrantsong

Hell yes.

But do note that I aspire to grow into an OAP with over the knee boots and a leopard print blouse and leather skirt.

Literally no one is being ageist. All anyone’s said that is negative is that they don’t like over the knee boots. Maybe they’re being bootist rather than ageist?? FWIW, I don’t like them on anyone either and if your have really good legs, why cover them in boot?
kissmelittleass · 23/08/2020 23:15

It's not your age because whatever age you are over the knee boots look horrible I cannot understand why anyone would think they are nice!!! Big. O from me!!

kissmelittleass · 23/08/2020 23:15

Big No ' !! Not O !!

Aren't long boots a bit out of fashioned now?

I have been wearing knee length boots with skirts and dresses for years but for the last two winters everything except ankle boots just looked no longer fashionable.

irishheartenglishblood · 24/08/2020 09:21

The ones in the photo above (of the woman standing in front of the door) are just about ok if you have legs / thighs that are the same size as hers. Generally I don't like them at all, on any age group. I feel the safe way about them as I do about cold-shoulder tops, shudder!

WhatamessIgotinto · 24/08/2020 12:45

Well they're in all the shops so probably not. Not that it matters anyway.

CointreauVersial · 24/08/2020 13:30

I am in my 50s, and I have a pair (flat, dark grey suede, not too high over the knee, look not dissimilar to the photo linked earlier).

But I haven't worn them for the last 2-3 years - they just don't feel very "current". I don't wear skinny jeans any more (and you can't wear them with the current wider/straight leg), nor do I wear many skirts/dresses above the knee. I could wear them under a midi dress, I suppose.....

But this has nothing to do with my age - they just aren't my style any more.

Moonflower12 · 24/08/2020 13:56

I have a flat pair of black ones that I love. I'm 51.

I've always fancied being a pirate too.

Go for it!
