Where do we stand on over the knee boots at 50?

So, I have always wanted a pair of suede over the knee boots to wear with loose jumper dresses etc. I turn 50 this year and now thinking maybe I'm just too old, though my legs are surprisingly good for my age (and the baggy jumper dresses will hide my middle aged tum) x

@AnnaSW1

I don't like them on any age. Makes me think of a pirate or a sex worker
Or a pirate sex worker Grin
JMAngel1 · 23/08/2020 06:38

They never stay up on me.

ReefTeeth · 23/08/2020 06:39

@Shakirasma

Over the knee boots look awful whatever your age IMO
This.
FancyMinion · 23/08/2020 06:44

Up to you. I’m close to your age and I wear them with knitted jumper dresses. I work in conservative role and get some compliments on this outfit. I have navy, and black suede ones and they are just above knee.

I am quite petite and I try to ensure the proportions are right (not too much thigh).

I have seen them looking stunning on other women but all about the right proportions.

ConiferGate · 23/08/2020 06:44

Awful at any age.

emilybrontescorsett · 23/08/2020 06:53

I have a pair of suede ones. I've never been paid for sex neither do I know any prostitutes. I think lots of women model themselves on "the porn star look" ie lip fillers, slug eyebrows, hair extensions, low cut tops, false fingernails, no opinion on anything. None of them wear high boots.

You must be a pirate then!

Wear what you want and rock the look! 😁
Life is too short.
Wear the boots, eat the cake. Do what makes you feel happy. X

ThaGugaBlasta · 23/08/2020 08:55

Oh, I dunno. If you wear them with verve then I think there's a Liza Minnelli note you can hit. I say go for it - being in your prime helps with the 'I'm wearing this because I want to' vibe.

morosetinkler · 23/08/2020 08:59

No age is too old but if I see somebody in a Boden style dress, black opaque tights and knee length boots then it screams teacher to me,

Sasuma · 23/08/2020 09:04

@vagoftheday @MoltonSilver @FinnyStory interesting you all think they look outdated - they’re looking like they will be popular for A/W 2020:

I think they can be hard to pull off, but done well can be great. I think they work better on long, slim legs. But I don’t think what makes them work or not or related to the age of the wearer!

Blondiney · 23/08/2020 09:26

I bloody love them with everything but they look most stylish with midi length dresses and skirts. They can feel a bit dated worn over jeans though but if they suit you then go for it!

RaveOm · 23/08/2020 09:33

I don’t think your age is relevant.
The principal boy thing would be a concern, but you can definitely avoid that depending on what you wear them with. Unless that’s what you’re aiming for? In which case, go for it!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 23/08/2020 10:44

I'm torn. Half of me thinks that women should wear whatever makes them happy and sod anyone else's opinion. The other half of me really dislikes over the knee boots and thinks knee high would be better. I think they make most women look squat. Sorry, I'm no help at all. I think I'm coming down on the avoid side.

TSSDNCOP · 23/08/2020 13:46

I've got a cracking pair, that are black and flat. Typically worn with leggings and a shirt or tunic. I am 52.

I do not accessorise with either a cutlass or a streetcorner lamppost Hmm

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 23/08/2020 14:59

So which does this woman look like, a pirate or a hooker? Hmm

Where do we stand on over the knee boots at 50?
LunaNorth · 23/08/2020 15:03

I’ll just leave this here...

what should women over 30 wear?

JulesM73 · 23/08/2020 15:10

Everyone should wear what they want and at any age they want, however, OP asked for opinions on over the knee boots. For me it’s a no, but that’s nothing to do with age, I just dislike them. It would be the same if she asked thoughts on hot pants or harem trousers. I don’t like the look of them, again age doesn’t come into it.

roundandsideways · 23/08/2020 15:25

I've had a pair for years now, and I still like them. They keep my legs warm and look good with a dress, smart enough for work wear, yet comfy and did I say warm?
I've never seen a prostitute wear them

Fleamaker123 · 23/08/2020 15:53

@ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords

They look great, although I think they're just on the knee. The ones that go well above the knee (think Pretty Woman) not so great.

BIWI · 23/08/2020 16:04

@LunaNorth

Brilliant! And so true.

MikeUniformMike · 23/08/2020 16:06

I'm thinking of getting a pair now. Quite fancy the idea of myself as a thigh slapping principal boy. Just call me Dick!

teta · 23/08/2020 16:15

I'm 56 and have two pairs. They actually are flattering on my short stumpy legs in the same way that calf length boots are not. Mine have a small chunky heel.

Standrewsschool · 23/08/2020 16:54

@LunaNorth love it!

Whenwillow · 23/08/2020 18:41

@LunaNorth YES!!!
Thank you Wine
