With 'old lady' not being an offensive term, but rather referring to women with knowledge, refined taste and other positive qualities

Show off your pretty things and link to dresses, slips, twinsets, pearls, stockings, big knickers, cross your heart bras, prestige scents, retro style makeup, soap and everything else in between

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie love the little sewing tin! I have so much sewing stuff in my house already and 2 sewing boxes, I do use it quite a bit though.

ppeatfruit · 13/07/2020 09:32

Nanny Mil had a sewing box (now sitting in our box room with a huge collection of buttons) Also DM has an unused one ,she's past using it which is very sad because she used to knit for England! I have good intentions to clear them and sort them. I haven't started yet Hmm.

dontcallmelen · 13/07/2020 14:04

I've recently discovered the joy of billowing nighties. It's a shame a lot of them are 'one size'.

Ps that pearl dress was stolen from her hotel room!

MotherofPearl · 13/07/2020 15:05

@dontcallmelen I love the tea set in your china cabinet!

Mustardpot · 13/07/2020 15:43

Mominatrix I just treated myself to your recommended C Dior fragrance, I love fresh and citrusy. Haven’t worn perfume since my 20s (Hermes Caleche) but it’s happening, I am 53 now but always been old ladyish.

LOVE this thread and going to read previous, renewed my faith in mankind I tell you. Goes for a lie down.

thisenglishlife · 13/07/2020 19:52

A big welcome to all newcomers, please take a slice of Victoria sponge cake and a freshly brewed cup of tea.

Lovely crockery @dontcallmelen
That perfume sounds wonderful (and very summery) @Mustardpot

M&S honeysuckle is my new perfume find. Love it!!

My daughter is 7 next week. Has a sewing machine and kit for her birthday. Carrying on the Granny Annie tradition 🤣

thisenglishlife · 13/07/2020 20:05

Sounds nice @GuyFawkesDay... and they they do a full range including OL favourites like talc and soap.

The bottle is very pretty and traditional too, similar to Tocca perfume bottles.

@thisenglishlife many thanks, scoffs the cake.
I’m currently looking at Eiderdowns, found a couple of company’s that make them & deliberating between a faded rose pattern or plain 🤔

ChicCroissant · 13/07/2020 20:10

I now want M&S magnolia talc - I'd forgotten about their ranges.

Is that an Aynsley teaset?

dontcallmelen · 13/07/2020 20:18

Chic it’s a Royal Albert, not sure if that’s made by Aynsley? My Dh bought it for me about twenty odd years ago from a second hand shop was £20.00 I think.
Yy M&S ranges wonder if they still do Lilly of the valley, that scent always reminds me of my Nan.

Geraniumblue · 13/07/2020 22:38

So this is where I belong... I have loved so many of these things since I was a teen. My family used to laugh at my liking for pot pourri and anything involving dried rose petals. I make lavender bottles from lavender, and clove studded pommanders at Christmas. I have an extensive collection of secondhand cashmere jumpers and cardigans. I once raised lavender plants from seed in my student bedroom. I read Angela Thirkell and have rose scented toilet soap and do embroidery. I need to now order a white nightie and I’m all sorted.

ppeatfruit · 14/07/2020 08:37

I used to LOVE Caleche Mustard . That's a name from the past!

geranium I used ess. oil of geranium in my bath this morning !!! Raising lavender seeds is not easy, you were a student too!! I have a lovely perfumed geranium plant on the terrace and I added a large leaf to my strawberry/almond milk shake!

Geraniumblue · 14/07/2020 08:45

Rose geranium oil is my favourite essential oil. Scented geraniums are gorgeous - I used to have a small collection of them....I might get some more...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/07/2020 09:03

That china cabinet is incredible!

I've just realised that I probably need to be kicked off the thread, as I hate the smell of geraniums. I do like rose though (current sporting Paul Smith Rose), so hopefully that's enough to keep me here.

ppeatfruit · 14/07/2020 09:08

They are very delicate, I lost some by overwintering in a room that was too dark. I've learned my lesson now, and hopefully my new scented pelargonium will keep going this winter. In a light but sheltered place (.I don't have a proper greenhouse)

Geraniumblue · 14/07/2020 09:10

There’s enough old fashioned flower perfumes for everyone, Remus.
I was tempted by Wood's of Windsor as they have the proper dusting powder with a powder puff in Lily of the Valley or Rose. I used to also have The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady duvet set as a teenager!

ppeatfruit · 14/07/2020 09:32

The scented pelargoniums\geraniums are quite musky and definitely an acquired smell/ taste!! I wouldn't wear it as a perfume, rose is lovely but, I do like the real smells of ess. oils not some of the chemically perfumes.

Patsypie · 14/07/2020 17:45

I've just discovered that 4711 do a rose scented cologne! My bank balance is destroyed!

We used to get those powder puff powders for Christmas as kids. I haven't seen them for years.

dontcallmelen · 14/07/2020 20:15

Same here Remus only at Christmas, so evocative of times gone by.

AnneKipanki · 14/07/2020 20:18

Lovely cloths .
