From dark brown and if I saw her in the street I seriously would not recognise her, I can't get my head around the change. Granted, I've only seen a few pics but it's truly shocking - she's 87 years old and this is very new for all of us!

Everyone who has posted a pic looks very chic, I think. Definitely not frumpy for the grey. Someone up thread said the cut is more important which I completely agree with.

I decided to grow out my grey about 6 years ago. I love it. I use whatever cheap shampoo is in the shower and purple shampoo when I think of it. Interestingly my grey hair is very soft rather than wiry.

Mine is very soft too kanye, it's also much thicker. I think it's grew back where the bleach had snapped it 🙈

Drogonssmile · 30/05/2020 15:23

I've finally convinced my mum to embrace the grey now she currently has no option. She's 68 and has been dying her hair since she was 40.

Ginkypig · 30/05/2020 16:44

Iv not got a really huge amount yet. It's coming in quickly though! I'm mid 30's and in the last year it's just taken off. If I follow this timeline il be almost all grey by 40-2

It doesn't necessarily show in photos properly yet but in real life there are lots of silver strands and as I have very dark hair it shows.

I'm not actually that bothered and have always said even since young that I'll just leave it to do it's thing! but I would like the texture to be a little less crinkled and I'm slightly annoyed that when they are short they like to stick straight up like an antenna Angry

Swishtail · 30/05/2020 16:47

My hair is very grey! I've been colouring it since I was 17. I usually have it done at the hairdressers but obviously can't at the moment. I really don't like the grey my hair is so i will probably have it down when we get out of lock down.

Ha! I didn't see this post before I posted for advice on this very subject. I stripped all my hair colour out last summer but it left it blonde rather than grey which looked ridiculous with my black eyebrows.

My lockdown roots have enabled me to see what my real colour is. It looks like a steely grey but with dark strands like a piebald pony Grin.

I'm trying to delay deciding what to do until the roots are a bit longer.

Mercedes519 · 30/05/2020 17:20

It’s worth giving it some time. Allow the colour to come through enough and for you to feel the texture and condition of your un-dyed hair as it can be quite different. Then play around with it - on one side mine is quite grey but I flipped my parting and it’s much more silvery-white.

There is so much bullshit around natural hair colour. Even if you think you can see it there is another layer ingrained in all of us about ageing making people worth less - the whole ‘not trying’ thing is a judgement on being old. Bullshit as I say but it’s taught to us all our lives.

@ilikeyourhairyhands and @cocolapew

I think you both look fantastic.

I have managed to get to 51 with only a few grey hairs but they are accelerating like mad and you give me hope that it actually might look genuinely good once really grey rather than just not completely terrible.

I don't dye my hair except occasionally blue or green so will just wait and see what happens, I suppose.

Castoreum · 30/05/2020 17:50

More lovely grey hair has appeared while I was writing that!

I am mid 50’s i went blonde last summer as i was sick of the silver streak appearing every 3-4 weeks.
I am now at the inbetween stage of half lock down grey and have blonde. I am going to give it my best shot.

LockdownLucie · 30/05/2020 18:30

My hair hasn’t been washed for days and it is usually more curly. But its too warm to be bothered today.

LockdownLucie · 30/05/2020 18:31

I forgot the photo. I cant decide whether I like my shade of grey or not.

I'm just leaving this here.

I love my grey hair, it isn't a striking colour but the condition is the best its ever been. I shaved my hair off nearly three years ago and its now shoulder length. My hair can appear mid grey when its down but if I tie it back then it is completely white. I love that. I am white all around my face and hairline. The white really suits my complexion and I have no idea why. I was 46 when I shaved it all off.

IHateCoronavirus · 30/05/2020 19:25

EraOfTheGrey did you leave a picture? If so, I can’t see. Not that I’m over invested in the thread or anything Wink

iklboo · 30/05/2020 19:29

Women not dying their hair are 'letting themselves go'

Men not dying their hair are 'silver foxes'

Bollocks.

EraOfTheGrey · 30/05/2020 19:35

I don't have a current picture but I do have a few older ones. I have more white now. This was taken about 18 months ago.

I pinned it back like that to show the different colours

Blackdoggotmytonguestill · 30/05/2020 19:48

Mine is a bit hallowe’en most days. There’s very little you can do with a cut if your curls/ frizz are outta control. I am muchly enjoying the grey embracing from our local female newscasters. They look awesome and I am really hoping they don’t succumb when the salons reopen.

You both have gorgeous hair

StillMedusa · 30/05/2020 23:26

52 here, 'let myself go' Grin 3 years ago and mine's no more wiry or dull than it was before, it's in better condition than ever and I love the streaks that are multiplying!

Granted it is longer that usual as I was overdue a haircut before lockdown but mostly it lives in a hippy plait for work . Never colouring it again and I'm looking forward to it getting whiter!

I'm loving the grey look, amazing. The more of us who are naturally grey, the more it becomes just another hair colour. No big deal, but I do think it is just a gorgeous colour.
Many of you have hair in lovely condition, with such a range of natural silvers and greys throughout. Envious.

Do you use any special shampoos?
