From dark brown and if I saw her in the street I seriously would not recognise her, I can't get my head around the change. Granted, I've only seen a few pics but it's truly shocking - she's 87 years old and this is very new for all of us!

And I always love your silver photos Coco, you have ace hair.

Katinthedoghouse · 29/05/2020 23:39

87 Shock

That sounds like too much effort for me - but kudos to her for effort

Three words Speak, retinol, acid and vit c.

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/05/2020 23:44

My mum is doing the same. She’s got shoulder length hair and the top 4 inches are now grey. She’s going to keep growing it out and get most of it chopped when her salon opens. It looks odd at the moment as it’s two-tone but I’ll excited for her about embracing it. She always hated the texture of the grey growth but now there’s a lot more of it she’s finding it soft and it looks silvery has beautiful. She’s saving a fucking fortune too!

Good for your mum.

Puffinhead · 29/05/2020 23:47

I’m seriously considering growing my hair colour out too. I have darker roots with some grey hair - would save me a fortune. I’m kind of in a ‘fuck-it’ mood at the moment - I’ve lost quite a lot of hair recently (my hairline has noticeably receded) and yesterday I noticed my eyebrowS have almost disappeared. I can’t hide the hair loss so might as well accept that this me now - grey hair and all.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/05/2020 23:47

If you're going to embrace the grey, use a purple shampoo and a good mask once a week, it really helps with the texture and the purple shampoo gets rid of any yellow tones.

mogtheexcellent · 29/05/2020 23:50

I have a huge badger stripe because of centre parting at the moment. I'm 47. The shade of grey does not suit me though. If it did I would grow it out as it is I am waiting for the salons to reopen.

At 75 my mum still is not fully grey and Dsis has lighter hair so not as obvious and less greys. Mum says I make her feel old Grin.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/05/2020 23:53

My Mother hates my grey Mog, as you say, it makes her feel old. Age isn't determined by hair colour though.

TimeWastingButFun · 29/05/2020 23:54

Aw 87, she can rock any colour she wants! My 'sprinkles' are more like a tsunami now. So tempted to let it grow out as it's lovely and soft and catches the light but when you see people from behind who are grey they look 'old', not sure I'm ready for that! And it would take forever to grow out...

PickAChew · 29/05/2020 23:54

My ugly undyed hair at 50.

ILikeYourHairyHands I am going to look like you when my hair grows up! You are gorgeous! What colour was your hair before?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/05/2020 23:57

Very dark brunette IHate.

IHateCoronavirus · 29/05/2020 23:57

Loving the colour and the curls PickAChew

IHateCoronavirus · 29/05/2020 23:58

Ooh there’s hope for me yet then Wink

ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/05/2020 23:59

I got my first greys around 18. I did dye it for a while in my 30s, had enough, and shaved it all off about 7 years ago. Never looked back.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 30/05/2020 00:00

That's beautiful hair Pick.

Shaved? Alas, my face is too alike the moon to suit anything above my collar. Sad

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/05/2020 00:09

Mine had highlights first, then left. It was already well overdue seeing to when the lockdown put an end to that. It's more white than grey, depending on the light.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/05/2020 00:10

It seems to have blended in quite well as it grew out, so if we suddenly have to go back to work before the hairdressers open, I at least won't scare my class!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 30/05/2020 00:12

It's absolutely accepted for men to go grey Witch, they're mocked for dyeing it. Why isn't it ok for women? There are threads on here occasionally where people are really vitriolic about women with grey hair. I understand that it's not for everyone, and that's fine, you have to do what's right for you. But to see an individual choice a woman makes about her own hair in such a negative way? That's got to come from misogyny and ageism surely? Otherwise why even give a shit about what other people do with what grows out of their head?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 30/05/2020 00:14

I don't think anyone would notice the segue from blonde to grey there DrMax.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 30/05/2020 00:16

Do you dye it now IHate? You don't have to shave it, I just took the nuclear option because I couldn't be bothered with the alternative.

MrsEricBana · 30/05/2020 00:21

DrMadelineMaxwell Your hair looks good! I think don't mess with it. As for Hairyhands & pickachew - FAB! I'm going to try letting mine go on the basis that I can recolour if it's alarming.
