Shamelessly copying another post but for us 40 somethings...

OP posts:
YgritteSnow · 25/05/2020 12:22

Gap and Uniqlo.

ktjb39 · 25/05/2020 12:24

Fat face, Oasis (so sad it's now gone), Next, Ted Baker, Dorothy Perkins are my go to shops.

BoogleMcGroogle · 25/05/2020 13:37

Boden, Hobbs, Cos, Fat Face, Jigsaw.

I'm not badly turned out, but hardly cutting edge. I look like the archetypal middle-class part-time working mother.

clpsmum · 25/05/2020 13:39

My go to shops (embarrassingly) seem to be supermarkets, next and silk Fred

YoureBreakingMyHeartCecilia · 25/05/2020 13:39

I’m 43.

Hush for some things, some is poor quality.

Uniqlo for some basics.

Used to love warehouse for dresses!!

A bit of H and M but I am careful as some can look cheap. Have a couple of terrific sweaters from there though.

Monsoon for nice summer frocks sometimes, they have quite a bit of cotton and linen compared to many. Also I like their pretty viscose summer tops.

Occasionally Zara. Some Esprit tops as they aren’t too polyester-ish.

If money was no object (I do try not to spend too much on clothes) I would add some Jigsaw, Whistles for dresses (avoiding all the polyester), Me and Em.

BikeRunSki · 25/05/2020 13:40

I’m much the same as @BoogleMcGroogle. Sadly realised recently that all my favourite clothes come from Sainsbury’s.

foreverblessedbee · 25/05/2020 13:41

White stuff, fat face, sainsburys, next, joules, and tesco!

sorryiasked · 25/05/2020 13:41

I also have quite a bit from sainsbury as they fit well especially their jeans.
Otherwise east for trousers, adini for tunics/dresses. Occasionally per una for long skirts.

foreverblessedbee · 25/05/2020 13:42

I'm almost 45 and like what I like lol

foreverblessedbee · 25/05/2020 13:42

Used to love charity shops and a good rummage too!

happytoday73 · 25/05/2020 13:43

I'm so glad you started this thread.. I need inspiration.. Haven't bought anything but jeans and t shirts for probably 3 years because stuff in my wardrobe looks better than anything I try on.... Getting the stage need replacements

Had a personal shopper at John Lewis week before shutdown in hope that would give me options.. Some things better fit but oh my the patterns... Everything looked like I was wearing 70s curtains...

DrCoconut · 25/05/2020 13:44

I do quite like some of the stuff in Sainsbury's. I can't afford to spend lots so I go where I can afford. ASDA is ok for basics. I really like Joe Browns but it has to be a rare treat as it's so expensive. The local charity shops have some good finds, especially the one where DS1 helps out.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/05/2020 13:44

River island,boohoo,asos

Mrsjayy · 25/05/2020 13:47

Dorothy perkins primark debenhams for summer stuff and don't laugh but bon marche for their jeans I'm under 5ft and they do leg lengths and are comfy I am all about the comfy.

Mrsjayy · 25/05/2020 13:48

I like Asda for t shirts and underwear.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 25/05/2020 13:52

Late 40s, formal-wear job.
I shop at Jigsaw, GAP, Uniqlo, Hobbs, H&M, the late lamented Oasis, Reiss, occasional basics from M&S, Massimo Dutti sale, a bit of Ralph Lauren diffusion, dresses from Joy and lots and lots of charity shop stuff (the key is to know your colours, and drop in for a speed browse at promising chazzas whenever you’re passing and have 5 minutes to spare, and be really really picky).

barberousbarbara · 25/05/2020 14:03

Recent purchases have come from H&M, FatFace, Joules, Dorothy Perkins, Monsoon, TKMaxx and Asda. I also have a lot of Sainsbury's Tu in my wardrobe.

I tend to buy my basic t-shirts and vests from H&M. My jeans on the whole are from River Island (I'm petite but with an athlete's physique so their short length jeans fit). Everything else is what I like. I'm not concerned at the age range the store is targeted at if I like the item.

EmmaStone · 25/05/2020 14:18

I'm 45, casual dresser for home and work.

Cos, Top Shop, Zara, jeans I tend to buy in the US (we usually travel there once a year and I stock up - jeans by Paige from designer outlets or Levi's , Ts from J Crew and Abercrombie & Fitch), occasionally Whistles if a good mark down. I browse in And Other Stories but don't buy much. Suspect I'd like Arket but none nearby and I like to get a feel for an outlet's clothes before online shopping. Underwear from Victoria's Secret (usually when in US).

Occasionally I'll see something I love on a blog/ Instagram and go out and buy it.

My friends think I shop loads, but actually I don't - but my style (and size) hasn't changed much over the years, so things last (I'm a bit picky about fabrics).

BlusteryLake · 25/05/2020 14:39

I suppose the most appropriate shops for you depends partly on how you spend your days and what sort of colour/pattern palette you like. I find lots of shops have a particular style that runs through most of their collections. I like clear, fresh colours and don't shy away from a pattern. I shop mainly at Boden and Hush, with basics from Uniqlo and sometimes M&S. The odd piece from H&m is still age-appropriate I find, and the odd thing from Co's, though I generally find their stuff a bit neutral for my taste.

BlusteryLake · 25/05/2020 14:40

Ditto Arket, which is a sister brand of Cos

Lockdownlooks · 25/05/2020 14:47

I’m not at all fashion conscious. Have tried to cut down. T-shirt’s supermarket/DPerkins. Trousers/jeans M&S, not stylish just because I’m short and cans can’t sew to take stuff up. Mantaray is good for me but too much the same style.

dudsville · 25/05/2020 14:51

Boden, John Lewis, Toast, Sugarhill, Seasalt, i think in that order. But my wardrobe isn't very varied, i want about 5 different items so i just check in from time to time if they have new versions of these.

TheWashingMachine · 25/05/2020 14:56

Toast, Anthropologie, H&M, M&S, People Tree

onemouseplace · 25/05/2020 14:59

H&M, Hush, Arket, Me & Em, NavyGrey, White Company for jeans as they fit me well, Cos, Boden (but less of this recently), Gap, Uniqlo, & Other Stories.

dancingbadger · 25/05/2020 15:01

Mint velvet, Reiss, jigsaw, pure collection, phase eight, some Zara and warehouse tk maxx (got some amazing bargains there).
