Is it possible to get a coat with a hood which is not frumpy????

It has just occured to me that I am going to need a coat to wear to walk to and from school as DS2 is in a pushchair and I will not be able to take an umbrella.

Does anyone know where I can get a stylish and warm coat with a hood?

Will be able to spend about £70.

Gosh last autumn/ winter virtually all the coats had hoods with a nice (fake) fur trim. They were everywhere.

However I am no fashion guru so a hood may just be this season's big no no. But I'm not ditching mine - was a Per Una from M&S.

DarrellRivers · 10/09/2007 14:33

I have wrstled with this dilemma for a few winters now.
Until now i have not found anything.
However I bought this boden coat which is nicer in reallife than in the photo i promise

MrsBadger · 10/09/2007 14:37

we have been on this quest for years
this is the closest you'll get

(cheaper in yellow)

snowleopard · 10/09/2007 14:38

I have that one too Darrell, in the coffee spot (orange and brown). I really love it. I don't normally go for Boden "fun"/"sassy" spotty things but it really appealed to me - and my instinct must have been right as a friend recently asked if it was Orla Kiely! (Well done Johnny).

So I can second that Willmouse - it's really warm and cosy, rainproof and quite stylish if you like that kind of thing.

DarrellRivers · 10/09/2007 14:39

Did you buy one then too MrsBadger?
Have this picture of playing spot the mumsnetter as we all tropp along road in the hooded coat
There was a lady advertising an umbrella holder for your pushchair, if you want to think rain protection in a different direction
I didn't go for it, as find gadgets a bit of a faff

There have been many, many threads on this, and so far, we've never really managed to find anything, with the possible exception of those Boden ones.

JackieNo · 10/09/2007 14:40

Ooh - x-post with loads of people

snowleopard · 10/09/2007 14:41

We'll be looking quite content Darrell, MrsB will be looking pissed off in hers. (Why don't you like it Badger?)

DarrellRivers · 10/09/2007 14:41

But I am a little that the buttons are not sewed on properly
I got the blue brown spots and am very happy with it.
I had a lovely Orla Kierly raincoat but slightly too big and no hood so i gave it to a taller friend

MrsPuddleduck · 10/09/2007 14:42

I like it DR -did you get the brown or pink?

Is it nice and warm? (I am nesh).

I am also quite liking the hat - or is that taking things to far (am not very good at these things - in fact my friends would probably be shocked if I turned up in that jacket).

Also I can get 10% off and free delivery at the moment.

Agree DR, I will have to resew the buttons and also let out the arms as Boden stuff is never long enough for my gibbon arms. But I don't mind as I find it so hard to find things I like - I often have to do a bit of customising anyway.

On mine though I love the buttons themselves, as they're made of squishy rubber. So cool!

MrsPuddleduck · 10/09/2007 14:45

Sorry x-posted - have just spent 5 mins with DS deciding which frube to have!

I think I may be brave and give it a try - it seems to get the thumbs up.

Plus it shouldn't look to frumpy with a pair of jeans.

This is the question that never goes away. i want one too.

MrsPuddleduck · 10/09/2007 14:46

Have never bought anything from Boden before (in fact I have just binned the catalogue grrr).

Do they come up small or big?

OP posts:
princessmel · 10/09/2007 14:47

I want a warm coat

I don't mind if there is no hood

I do not want to be cold

JackieNo · 10/09/2007 14:48

Don't forget to check for offers - if you buy through MN you get 10% off and free p&p (or is it free returns, or possibly both?).

snowleopard · 10/09/2007 14:48

Big. I'm a 14-16 usually, I wear Boden size 14 and it's roomy.

I could never wear that last one. too mountainy

Cappuccino · 10/09/2007 14:49

that is my coat

it is mine I say

never mind that I am 5'3 and I will look like a pillow on legs

snowleopard · 10/09/2007 14:49

For cheaper options, H&M always do millions of coats in the autumn. Not as "sassy" (bleurgh) but you should be able to find what you want and with a hood.

JackieNo · 10/09/2007 14:49

£139, though, Cod.

MrsBadger · 10/09/2007 14:50

I didn't get the Boden one - would rather gte a new wool coat this year and couldn;t justify the price.
I have one of these and a hat which does very well.

if you go for boden sunday times is ding 15% off, free delivertry & returns - I posted a thread yestrday
