Alternative to Mulberry Anthony bag - help please!

Hello Fashionistas, my DH bought me a tan Mulberry Anthony bag for my 40th (many ahem) years ago, and I have used it practically everyday. It's a great size and takes a good old bashing - fits all my day to day crap in it yet still looks 'good' iyknim. But, it's now getting to the point where I really do need a new bag, but I don't want to fork out £3-400 for a bag, but I do still want one that has recognisable style. It must be cross body and it must be slouchy but sturdy and take a lot of stick. It must not have lots of bells and whistles - simple and stylish is the key. I don't mind natural, or colour such as burgundy, navy, dark green etc - nothing out too 'out there'. There seems to be a lot of 'structured' cross body bags on the market and I'm at a loss - have been searching for ages! Can anybody help? There are some brands I really don't like - such as Fossil or Radley - they are just not 'me'. Happy to go without a designer name tag and happy to spend up to £200 on something amazing. Can anyone help? I know you lovely ladies know your bags!!

😍😍😍

I really want the small Millie in the burnt amber and the Leighton in the houndstooth. And also the Hampstead but I’m not decided on colour...

Plus about five other bags from various brands.

Sigh. Might dig out my small Bayswater and use it today!

@Ninkanink it’s a never ending quest isn’t it 🤣

twosoups1972 · 18/01/2020 18:52

@strictly1972 I’m so jealous, I’ve been lusting over a Leighton for ages! Can we see a picture please?

twosoups1972 · 18/01/2020 18:54

Hi @Ninkanink we have similar taste - I love the Millie and Hampstead too

twosoups1972 · 18/01/2020 18:58

Oh God, I should NOT have looked at Mulberry’s sale! Leighton and Hampstead both with good reductions Confused

Martin Pryce in Ludlow makes something very similar to the Anthony messenger bag here - it's called a military hip bag in case link doesn't work. Haven't had any bags from him, but dh has a lovely guitar strap which is still going strong after several years.

Hi @twosoups1972 👋👋 Yes it looks like we do! I looked at the sales too (WHY DID I DO THAT?!!😭😭), and noted that I would save a whopping £700+ on the Leighton that I have wanted for ages. Too bad I would have to spend that amount to ‘save’ it...

Never mind. I shopped my wardrobe tonight and went out wearing a poncho, bag and shoes that I haven’t worn this winter.

I’m hoping it will be here on Monday so I’ll do some pics. I’m sort of hoping I don’t love it as it’s still a lot of money. Frantically selling as much as I can on eBay & Facebook to make myself feel better about splurging!

Strictly1972 · 18/01/2020 20:10

That’s nice @soupdragon321 I’ll keep a look out. Love a bag hunt 😀

ZenNudist · 18/01/2020 20:19

Gutted my brand new never used navy prairie from Christmas is now half price!!!!

I have it in burgundy leather and navy suede as well. Its a great bag. Small but roomy.

Ninkanink · 18/01/2020 20:26

@Strictly1972 I made enough from eBay sales to pay for a small Lily, last summer. It felt great to have a much needed clear out and also have a lovely new bag!

Soooooo wish I had a spare £700+ lying around right now!

Ninkanink · 18/01/2020 20:43

Oops not Lily...Darley!

SpeckledyHen · 18/01/2020 20:50

It’s woven nylon rather than leather but looks quite robust. I like the pocket on the front & the top handle too.

Strictly1972 · 18/01/2020 21:16

@Ninkanink that’s amazing. Im not sure I’ll manage to do that well but hopefully will get a decent amount towards it.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 18/01/2020 22:41

That’s ok OP and under £200

twosoups1972 · 18/01/2020 23:00

@Strictly1972 the Ralph Lauren one is gorgeous

soupdragon321 · 19/01/2020 08:07

Strictly1972 that Kate Spade bag is great size, love the extra handle, but needs to be leather. Ideally butter soft leather that looks beaten up after a while. A lot of the bucket bags look and feel very structured, and I’m definitely not a structured bag kind of gal. Gosh it’s hard!

@soupdragon I’ve just found this. I’ve read quite a lot about this brand and all positive. They are a small Irish company

I feel I’m invested in this bag search. Let me know the end result!!

Eve2020 · 19/01/2020 09:43

I am surprised you haven't looked at some of the pre loved sites. This one gets excellent reviews and usually have an Anthony for sale. Well worth a look
