Can anyone recommend a good mascara?

One that doesn't leave me looking like a panda!

I bought some maxfactor stuff a few months ago at £10 but it's crap

My sister uses Clinique & it doesn't leave her with black bags round her eyes, but when I used it I looked like a racoon!!

Anyone know of any that will guarantee me a clean face at the end of a night?

I use a clinique one but I do get panda eyes, when I was at the counter in boots the other week she used a benefit one on me whch was fantastic and did not leave me with panda eyes at the end of the night.

The gaudy Maybelline one is really good (and cheap - under £4 I think). I have bought expensive ones but I always come back to this one.

binkleandflip · 23/08/2007 16:25

YSL Mascara is fantastic - a bit pricey but well worth - very vivd and long lasting

twinsetandpearls · 23/08/2007 16:30

I hired a make up artist once and she recomended the green and pink mascara and that was the only "cheap" product she used.

Carnoodleusfudge · 23/08/2007 16:33

Laura Mercier - does not leave me with black bags even when I have slept in it (slutty slutty me!)

EscapeFrom · 23/08/2007 16:37

I tried that maybelline one and I frankly think it's crap.

Much prefer Collection 2000 if I am buying cheap.

binkleandflip · 23/08/2007 16:39

I didnt think much of the great lash either.

smugmumofboys · 23/08/2007 16:46

Boots No7 do a range called Stay Perfect (I think) and that mascara is great. More upmarket - have you tried Dior Show? People actually commented on my lashes when I wore that, which had never happened before or since!

MrsBadger · 23/08/2007 20:10

I like the Rimmel one with the comb rather than a brush - eXtreme Definition or some such.

Definitely YSL ... I've tried Clinique, Laura Mercier and heaven knows what else and have always, always, had black circles under my eyes within 2 hours of applying it. Not with the YSL one - it's fantastic, really great. Well worth the money!

Gingermonkey · 23/08/2007 23:00

I use diorshow and people have also commented on my lovely long lashes (which are actually stubby and pathetic without mascara on).

Fireflyfairy2 · 24/08/2007 10:16

Thankyou everyone!

I never got back to this yesterday as I was out until late last night! (And came home with panda eyes!)

I am for town today so will look up a few of these brands! I also have a few mascaras from Avon which leave shadows too. I thought I was applying them wrong.

Waterproof would be a good idea yes, black probably. I do have long eyelashes & mascara makes the most of them. Although they sometimes look clumped together. I'm not much cop with the oul make-up bag!

try lancome mascaras-they are the best in my humble opinion if going for a dearer one. if cheap then the maybelline one gets my vote

antheaturnersbasketporn · 24/08/2007 19:39

I have REALLY watery eyes so eye makeup has always been a problem - so much so that I got my eyeliner semi-permanantly tattoo'd.

Some waterproof mascara is OK for me but an absolute 'mare to remove, so I just use blinc now (it tubes the lashes rather than coats them, NEVER runs and comes off using water only). Its not the best for volume but I just got fed up with the panda eyes!

sylvev · 24/08/2007 21:05

Maybelline Great Lash, cheap and effective, doesn't smudge or run.

missbumpy · 29/08/2007 14:51

Clinique Natural Glossy Lashes is lovely and natural looking and no clumps. Lancome does some great ones too. I think the ones I like are Hypnose and another one but I can't remember the name (sorry, pregnant brain failing again).

Neither are waterproof but I've never had problems with it running. Do you rub your eyes a lot? Sounds stupid I know but I can't think why it runs off you but not your sister.

JillyE · 29/08/2007 14:59

Another vote for YSL - I've only just tried it - bought the new one that separates your lashes and it really, really works.

I've tried almost every other brand and will be sticking with YSL.

Caroline1852 · 29/08/2007 15:08

Lancome for mascara, Lancome juicy tubes lip gloss, No. 7 stay perfect tinted moisturiser, YSL Touche Eclat, MAC eyeshadow in taupe

mckenzie · 29/08/2007 15:13

my friend who is a beauty therapist will only use Mac mascara. She thinks it's the best by far.

chopster · 29/08/2007 15:23

lancome

snowleopard · 29/08/2007 15:26

I like Maybelline lash stylist - the brush is very eay to use, and the effect is kind of neat and tidy and not clumpy.

Anna8888 · 29/08/2007 15:29

Lancôme. Market leader.

muppetgirl · 29/08/2007 15:35

I like Molton Browns mascara and I have it in brown and black. I go for the natural look.
