Can anyone recommend a good mascara?

One that doesn't leave me looking like a panda!

I bought some maxfactor stuff a few months ago at £10 but it's crap

My sister uses Clinique & it doesn't leave her with black bags round her eyes, but when I used it I looked like a racoon!!

Anyone know of any that will guarantee me a clean face at the end of a night?

there was a massive thread on here a bit ago about blink mascara, looked really good, didnlt try it though

sibble · 30/08/2007 02:47

another thumbs up for maybelline, have tried clinique, estee lauder, boots, heaps and it's my current fave

Northumberlandlass · 30/08/2007 07:58

I rate clarins if you can afford it - but I usually use Maybelline (I like it).

Another option I think someone has already mentioned is lash tinting. I had it done for my wedding (as thought I would cry and didn't want streaks down my face). I had my lashes tinted black and then wore clear mascara. I usually have this done if I'm going on holiday too. It's not that expensive.

I started to use YSL faux cils - IT IS FANTASTIC!! Seriously, I have tried them all but I can't believe how good this is. It is a bit pricey (£19 I think) but you get what you pay for. It even smells yummy.

Lancome Hypnose the best IMO. Maybelline Great Lash a good cheap and cheerful option.

flowerybeanbag · 30/08/2007 15:47

I use Lancome - Hypnose makes your lashes thicker, I like that but have recently started using L'extreme which I think is a lengthener. Both good!

WideWebWitch · 30/08/2007 15:50

Mine is about to run out, which one was Aloha raving about?

NomDePlumeCantFindTheCatch · 30/08/2007 15:53

WWW, aloha was raving about that funny one that makes tubes on your eyelashes. I think it is £££ though

NomDePlumeCantFindTheCatch · 30/08/2007 15:54

Blink, that's it. Thought it had a funny spelling though. "Blinc" maybe ?

Beenleigh · 30/08/2007 16:08

This is is, I've been trying to buy some in a rl shop rather than internet, but can't find it anywhere!

florencemum · 30/08/2007 16:12

maybeline is one of the best selling mascaras in the world and surely there is a reason for that.

i have been searching eternally for a non-clumping mascara and the closest thing i have found is Prescriptives mascara. it is amazing and very clump free.

otherwise, i've recently tried DiorShow mascara which has quite an effect.

ClaphamLauren · 30/08/2007 16:14

Benefit Bad Gal Lash is brilliant!

suzywong · 30/08/2007 16:16

oh yes, it is
it performs etc but it does smudge and you get panda eyes by the time you are doing the afternoon school run

however it's worth it

WideWebWitch · 30/08/2007 16:16

Oh thanks both, I will look for that then.

Flibbertyjibbet · 30/08/2007 18:35

If you have any moisturiser or eye cream on the eyelashes or around the eyes when you apply it then any mascara will slide off. Might explain why they stay on your sister and not you.
I had panda eyes for years before someone pointed that out.
Haven't had panda eyes for years since.
I like the Virgin Vie mascaras, very lush and thickening.
But after reading this I think I will be off for some Dior at the weekend as I have ginger eyelashes so obsess about mascaras.

smeeinit · 30/08/2007 18:39

clarins mascarras are fab,i use this one

stripeybumpsmum · 30/08/2007 20:10

Have you tried having your eyelashes dyed? I get mine done every 8 weeks for about £9 I think. Saves a lot of faff with mascara everyday but you can still slap it on when you want volume rather than just colour. For the latter, I'm another vote for Maybeline Great Lash.

It is really sad that I know this (too much R4) but today's pointless fact is that the brother of the original Mabel (sp?), a chemist, helped her work together coal dust and vaseline (hence maybeline) to tart her up to make ex-bf jealous. Must have worked because he married her! (sure her then becoming a millionaire though make up entirely coincidental.....)

I really need to get out more.

toolly · 31/08/2007 00:14

Kanebo 38 is supposed to be good. The only way it comes off is if you use water that is 38 degrees. Haven't tried myself but thinking about it

nappyaddict · 31/08/2007 02:01

suzywong which mascara are you talking sbout the benefit one?

midnightexpress · 31/08/2007 10:25

Has anyone mentioned Body Shop waterproof mascara? It was raved about when it came out years ago and I still use it. Stays put even on me and I always end up with panda eyes otherwise. And it's cheap.

Lolly68 · 31/08/2007 12:23

Lancombe Hypnose definately the best!

Lolly68 · 31/08/2007 12:24

Lancome

fluffymummy · 31/08/2007 15:13

Maybelline Great Lash (pink and green) every time, and not just cos of the cost (although that helps!)....I've got a Clarins one in my drawer which cost ££ but is nowhere near as good (and runs!). Best trick I've found is the prescriptives or pout mascara base stuff (white) followed by waterproof Maybelline - good effect and it stays put!

starfish2 · 31/08/2007 15:20

Every time I buy something that is not Lancome I regret it. My SIL is a make-up artist and she only ever uses Lancome... Worth the price. If you buy the waterproof stuff you'll need baby oil to remove it, though.

gerbo · 31/08/2007 16:41

Just to add my opinion - mascara is the only make-up I wear each day (well, apart from cover-up on spots!!) and after years and years of trying different kinds, expensive and cheap, and being given gifts of mascara which are nowhere near as good (such as the Elizabeth Arden one I was given recently), I have to recommend Rimmel's Extra Super Lash in black. I used to work a long day and then walk home (sometimes in rain!) and in around 12 years of use it just never smudges/runs/flakes. It is defffffinitely the best one out there, and I've read many models etc. use Rimmel despite it being cheap and cheerful (think it's £5.99 now). It's a must.
