I really need some proper big knickers.

OK, so very little style or beauty involved but I currently have a drawer full of ageing M&S midi, a sort of halfway house and, apart from them getting shabby, I'm tired of them falling down. I have no arse and a bit of a belly, not overweight but a typical menopausal apple. I've tentatively ordered myself some sloggi briefs, but they're pretty expensive and, from what I've read, not as good as they used to be.

So, hit me with your less extortionate recommendations for some good cotton belly warmers! (please :))

Primark pack of 3 for £5!! Bit of a stretch but not too much. Black/nude.
Csection here and flab!!

I have a whole drawer full of them, they must have increased in popularity as when I went yesterday they have started doing patterns and different colours. Size down as they are massive sizes which is unusual for Primark.

Honeybee85 · 31/10/2019 06:53

I love Uniqlo knickers.
Very comfortable, not cheap but not expensive either and they stay well even after washing them many times.

Hema has lovely ones as well, as does Primark.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 31/10/2019 06:57

Honestly, full briefs from M&S once you wear them you can’t go back.

Northernsoullover · 31/10/2019 07:01

gimme I disagree. I like my apple catchers. I think they look more attractive than my smaller undercrackers.

SnugglySnerd · 31/10/2019 07:03

I have Asda ones that I bought before my c section and now cannot bear to part with. They are really comfy!

PickAChew · 31/10/2019 07:26

gimme I have a massive apron and it looks pretty shit, whatever I dress it in. I even have to be careful with jeans because they end up looking lumpy, there. I own a lot of long shirts and tunics.

I have a pack of the playtex, supposedly arriving today. Time to go through my knicker drawer and move all the worst offenders into the duster pile.

Honest M & S full brief - a size up. That’s what I’ve been wearing since my c section - covers everyrhing and feels so comfortable.

I can’t stand midis or anything that cuts into me.

PickAChew · 31/10/2019 17:09

Well, for the verdict on the sloggi, I like the washing instructions (hot and thorough, though I don't know how well the lycra would hold out if I did regularly wash them at 60) and they certainly stay put, even wearing my most annoying mid rise joggers while dismantling a knackered shower enclosure. The joggers occasionally slipped but no draughty arse crack.

Not so keen on how low the front of the thigh is, though. I could feel them there while out for a walk, this morning - it's quite a tender spot.

The playtex have arrived and they feel nice and sturdy though the washing instructions are for a gentle wash, no tumble drying (bugger that!) the front of the thigh looks slightly higher cut.

I swear by these, they are very dull but very comfortable. I too am a peri menopausal apple with a belly and no bum.

Ooh actually I’ve just been reading the reviews and it seems that they now have lace rather than elastic at the back so may not have the staying power that the older style has. Hmmmmm.

Examssuck · 31/10/2019 18:33

I got some real beauties in matalan. An absolute joy to wear. They come up over my belly button.

Sockworkshop · 31/10/2019 20:00

Based on this threads recommendations I got 2 packs of the JL Pima cotton in Waitrose .
Oh my word they are lovely !
So soft and perfect shape -I am post menopausal hurrah with no belly but plenty of bum.
I sized down though .
I wear those shorts under dresses in the summer Bran
My beef with Modal and Rayon is that for a "natural" fibre it feels so unnatural and synthetic-horrible.
The question of "attractive"
Im not trying to be attractive, Im trying to be comfortable and warm .

LucaFritz · 31/10/2019 20:06

I wear primark full briefs cheap and cheerful i like to change them every few months for all new ones so the longevity isn't an issue

PickAChew · 31/10/2019 20:17

No, these, branleuse, so not even shorts.

Why do you like to replace your undies so often, @LucaFritz? Isn't that rather wasteful?

I've got knickers that I had when my teens were babies. They're in better condition than some of my more recent acquisitions, tbh.

OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 31/10/2019 20:34

Do they not come up higher than your jeans/trousers?
I wear superdry bikini pants for everyday, have loads of them, with thongs if vpl will be an issue, and obvs fancy stuff for seeing the bfGrin

PickAChew · 31/10/2019 21:39

They do than some, yes. It doesn't matter at this time of year because there's also a vest on there, anyhow and the more protection between my skin and my belt buckle and those bloody studs in jeans that leave me with tiny little scabs, the better.

OP posts:
PickAChew · 31/10/2019 21:42

And it's the best part of a quarter of a century since I last wore skimpy pants.

I bought some M&S big knickers ( I had a 20% off multi-pack knickers burning it's way into my Sparks Card)

I usually wear mid -belly ones but these might be nicer under leggings .
(Went for 95% cotton/5% elastane , I think 100% cotton might be baggy)

I like Modal in T-shirts and tops , feels smooth and drapey but not in pants

Hecateh · 05/11/2019 11:15

Florence and Fred - much more comfy for me than the George ones. I think there were 5 pairs for £6 last time I bought some.

drspouse · 05/11/2019 11:40

I make my own Scrundies but I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment so I'm buying a few pairs (on Etsy). They are great under leggings/dresses/tights/anything that doesn't hold my tummy in very well. Anything less sturdy just rolls down owing to the convex nature of that area.

drspouse · 05/11/2019 11:43

PS I just got some from this seller who has a Tenner Tuesday.

Oh my god @drspouse - those knickers are awesome! I love them 😍
