I really need some proper big knickers.

OK, so very little style or beauty involved but I currently have a drawer full of ageing M&S midi, a sort of halfway house and, apart from them getting shabby, I'm tired of them falling down. I have no arse and a bit of a belly, not overweight but a typical menopausal apple. I've tentatively ordered myself some sloggi briefs, but they're pretty expensive and, from what I've read, not as good as they used to be.

So, hit me with your less extortionate recommendations for some good cotton belly warmers! (please :))

Love the TU multipacks - they've replaced m&s in my knicker drawer Smile!

Freemind · 29/10/2019 19:36

Bought a couple of packs of cotton full briefs in Waitrose recently as had unexpected extended visit - think pack of 5. Seem very good and comfortable. They also stay up!

You could try an Australian online company called Nico.
They are an ethical, eco company that do fabulous big knickers in really nice colours, and very comfortably wire free bras etc.
Or if you have a sense of humour about your knickers occasionally , Thunderpants in NZ do awesome big knickers in very whacky patterns.
Both brands are extremely comfy and with the current rate of exchange you should find both fairly cheap, and different.

bobstersmum · 29/10/2019 19:53

My belly looks so sad after 3 babies in 4 years. Do these actually pull you in a little?

Wakeupalready · 29/10/2019 19:57

If you mean the ones I suggested then yes, especially the Nico brand. I have a bit of a gut roll and they smooth that out nicely.
The thunderpants not quite as much, but they never, ever go up your ass.

I wear M & S shorts, I always buy a size larger than I need, they come to just under my belly button, high enough for coverage but not too high to show over the waistband of trousers. A multi pack is £7, they are 99% cotton & 1% lycra.

Boody Bamboo pants are lovely, they are soft and comfy don't cut or dig in, wash and dry well even in the tumble drier, love them, they are huge but I don't care.

Tesco all the way

ClientListQueen · 29/10/2019 22:07

@Graphista Matalan are v good and I find them true to size
Someone recommended amazon ones ages ago, I will try and find a link

Sockworkshop · 29/10/2019 22:17

Fantastic thread !
Ive got Sainsburys Tu big pants and also the Lidl ones with matching vests.
Gorgeously warm and comfortable.

Angbunnyboo · 29/10/2019 22:18

Sloggi maxi control pants - nice and big and hold you in and make you feel "contained". Expensive but worth it IMO, if you shop around you can usually get a sale or a two pack for £20. Real belly warmers and I love them!

PickAChew · 29/10/2019 22:34

The nico underwear looks nice, if pricey, but I only found the aussie site. I don't quite think that this is the UK equivalent :o (obligatory tacky warning)

I must loko at uniqlo. Never ordered from them as we don't have the physical shops up here so I've never had a chance to have a good feel. I've been looking at their women's jammie bottoms, recently, which actually have pockets, though, but they seemed too cheap to be true.

@PickAChew just the Australian one. Not the lingerie based UK one. definitely not that!
Not cheap, but last for ages and are so comfortable. Basically divide price in half. Also non chemical dye, and organic which I prefer personally near my bitsSmile

FreeBedForFlys · 29/10/2019 23:30

I"ve got Playtex and some M and S ones. The Playtex ones are better. I binned all my old tiny pants. I'm committed to big ones now. They're fucking bliss.

Graphista · 29/10/2019 23:58

Thanks @ClientListQueen but at £19! For my size for I think 4 pairs? That's beyond my budget

Bananabeak · 30/10/2019 00:41

Just go from the midis to full brief. They just hug you and don’t fall down. Same body type here I think.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 30/10/2019 00:53

Love apple catchers- can't be arsed with any other type. Primark is good as is Debenhams

StarlightLady · 30/10/2019 02:36

Totally perplexed here on 2 counts.

  1. How/why would anyone find such bulk underneath it all comfortable? I want fine gossamer fabrics with stretch.
  1. What on earth are people doing that have knix that don’t stay up? I’ve never encountered that, ever.
EachandEveryone · 30/10/2019 03:12

I bought Sainsburys granny knickers this week and they are lovely quality. Better than M and S and lovely colours. The pack of five ones.

TileFloors · 30/10/2019 06:54

Uniqlo is generally good quality and their knickers are excellent. I’ve had several pairs of the soft lace trimmed ones for over a year now and they still look new despite being regularly chucked in the washing machine any old how. I also have several pairs of their seamless airism high waist knickers and they’re all I ever wear for exercise and for wearing under things where I want no VPL.

ClientListQueen · 30/10/2019 07:26

@Graphista yeah Matalan are definitely the cheaper option! I buy online from there and they wash really well too

TileFloors · 30/10/2019 08:06

Also loving ‘apple catchers’! I agree, once you’ve tried them you won’t go back to the uncomfy lower cut ones.

HappydaysArehere · 30/10/2019 08:12

M&S full and completely cotton knicks. Currently £5 for four. Only thing I can bear around my nether regions. Also more hygienic than those pretty synthetic jobs. Bridget Jones rides again.
