Is there a gym kit thread...?

frozenonions · 12/09/2019 06:10

If not, I thought I'd start one Smile

I have some Sweaty Betty leggings which look beautiful but if I'm brutally honest, the material is too thick. I'm currently lusting after their running jacket https://www.sweatybetty.com/shop/tops/coats-and-jackets/fast-track-running-jacket-SB1962Black.html?dwvarr_SB1962Blackk_color=black&cgid=&tile=2#q=Jacket&lang=default&start=2

I need a new sports bra. I like the look of the straps on this one from H&M (see attached pic) but I may need more support than 'medium'.

I have an amazing H&M gym vest which I absolutely LOVE. Such good value. I might get a grey one but I sweat profusely so not sure that's a good idea Hmm

Has anyone got any trainer recommendations, particularly for wide feet?

I wedge my gym stuff into my unattractive laptop backpack with supportive straps.

Bloomburger · 17/09/2019 10:26

BringtheBounceBack email them with a copy of any certificates you have and they apply it to your account. Think it's maybe 20% to start with until you spend every penny you earn with them and it goes up.

Bloomburger · 17/09/2019 10:28

Lululemon and Sweaty Betty have nice rucksacks.

If your hips hurt you need to stretch your IT band most likely.

frozenonions · 17/09/2019 11:06

@hotcrossbun4321 I don't commute but I do use a Le Pliage and I love it Smile

My snazzy new trainers arrived... they're too small But the good thing was they felt plenty wide enough, just not long enough. So I've ordered a size up and will see how I get on with them. They're arriving tomorrow. So for those wide wide trotters like me, I recommend Asics but sizing up.

I'm also patiently waiting for these leggings to come back into stock on the SB website..l I'm not usually an animal print fan but I do like these.

I bought a sweaty betty layered top in the sale -still pricey! - and it shrank on a 40 wash!

frozenonions · 17/09/2019 11:59

@Loopytiles Noooo! I hope you got your money back?! That's outrageous.

I have bought some gorgeous Nike and Adidas gym gear from Wembley Outlet village as many sports shops based there.

I also tried out Lucas Hugh leggings and tops when the sample sale was one. Gorgeous designs (not necessarily practical) but totally overpriced at full price.

GoodwithRocksandGems · 17/09/2019 12:20

I love gym kit, I live in the stuff for school run, dog walks and working at my desk (wfh). I used to buy a lot of sweaty Betty and still get the occasional top as they seem more up to date style wise. These days I buy Nike or under armour leggings as they are nice and long - I’m tall.

However always loved my sb stuff and it’s lasted years.

Stumpedasatree · 17/09/2019 14:12

I have wide feet and love my Asics, I think they're Gecko, for trails. I wear NB for road shoes which aren't quite as comfy.

I have a LOT of running gear, from H&M to Decathlon to M&S and Sweaty Betty, as well as some sports brands such as Reebok, Asics, Adidas, XT, and Gap. I like them all for different purposes, but really rate Gap for tights, H&M as well, and XT for compression tights. My race jacket is Asics.

For cold weather 100% merino is the only choice for me. I get long sleeve tops from Decathlon, and also Mountain Warehouse. They are breathable and make a massive difference.

Bras are Nike, M&S or Uniqlo, I don''t have too much up front! I get annoyed when they have the removable pads in which always get twisted in the wash. Seamless knickers are Uniqlo or Decathlon own.

My socks are Asics or random makes. I have some fancier Hilly ones for longer distances.

I really want a cropped top that is semi decent that I can wear on its own when it is hot but apart from Lululemon which is £££ I can't find one.

In the summer I don't go out without my running headband (compress sport) and visor, and usually trail glasses as well.

I also spend the most on my running kit, I'm in it most days!

SophoclesTheFox · 17/09/2019 16:27

Place marking - love a bit of a spend on sports kit.

Really struggling for high impact sports bras- am bog standard 36 b/c depending on the cut, but can’t find anything nice that isn’t really spendy. I Like the shock absorber compression style, or the real parachute harness types that you practically have to climb into. My one foray into a zipped front was a disaster, it always unzipped itself...

Used to do fine in M&S but it’s really gone off the boil. Any suggestions?

SophoclesTheFox · 17/09/2019 16:31

There are loads of crop tops on gymshark, stumped. I may have a couple earmarked thanks to an earlier rec in this thread 😬

DarlingNikita · 17/09/2019 16:43

This is a great thread! I'm always looking for nice yoga and gym stuff.

My holy grail is a hoodie or jacket, zip-up, slim fit not boxy or baggy, in cotton or bamboo, or least a blend (can't stand all-man-made clothes). Not boring black or grey and not too pricy (I can entertain the idea of SB in the sale but am really more a TK Maxx-level buyer).

Anyone...?

TimeToGetMeBack · 17/09/2019 16:59

Another vote for gymshark. They are my favourite leggings. I have a Tesco sports bra that's my favourite.

My problem is shoes too. I get cramp and pins and needles a lot, I don't have wide feet and usually wear Nike. But shoes in general are a problem for me.

DarlingNikita · 17/09/2019 17:03

I don't have problem feet particularly, but I wear Bloch trainers for zumba and find them very light and comfortable.

MadisonMontgomery · 17/09/2019 17:50

My fave leggings & tops are Lululemon - I’ve tried all different ones that are supposed to be as good but nothing ever is so would rather just spend a bit more and known I’m getting the quality! For sports bras I stick with Shock Absorber as I have giant boobs, socks are Hilly and shoes New Balance or Saucony, although I have been admiring APL and if I ever find neon pink or leopard ones in the UK I might have to bite the bullet.

cheesenpickles · 17/09/2019 18:14

Oooh! Sliding into this one. I've just joined the gym and lost a helluva lot of weight lately so none of my old (unused Grin) fits now. Just picked up some Adidas leggings with don't look squat proof but too pretty to send back and an ASOS 4504 or whatever they call them black racerback.

How much gym kit do people have? I'm toying with getting on the C25K and working up to the great north or south run for 2020, but mainly looking to start with weights and strength training to start.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 17/09/2019 18:24

Great thread op!

frozenonions · 17/09/2019 18:51

Thanks @SmiledWithTheRisingSun

Congratulations on your weight loss @cheesenpickles Smile I have three pairs of leggings, two sports bras and about four vest tops. One jacket. I'm in the gym five times a week and everything goes in a 60 degree wash after each session (I'm a big sweater!).

I have some new H&M mesh leggings arriving tomorrow.

How much gym kit do people have?

Too much Blush It’s my weakness.

Stumpedasatree · 17/09/2019 20:34

I have too much as well. About 8 pairs of tights, some full length, some compression, some shorter 3/4 length, 4 shorts, 1 skirt, 5 long sleeve tops, several short sleeve tops (freebies from races), 4 vest tops and 4 jackets. All I wear. I run mostly every other day so spend a lot of time in it!

MsMartini · 17/09/2019 21:32

I have three of these in previous versions and different colours www.adidas.co.uk/trace-rocker-hooded-fleece-jacket/DZ0758.html

They are recycled polyester I think, but they have secure zip pockets, close fitting, wicking, nice colours, dry super-fast. I'd love to wear more cotton and bamboo for exercising but I pour with sweat. How do people manage that?

ALso, any good pants for exercising sweatily in?

MsMartini · 17/09/2019 21:35

Sorry that was about gym/running jackets.

I have too much kit too Smile. About five pairs leggings and jackets and lots of tees but I wear them for long walks, runs, gym, loads of things. I spend loads of time in kit and do like getting new bits occasionally.

bakedbeanzontoast · 17/09/2019 22:14

I often go to sports direct. 🥴 - next do nice stuff sometimes. I only buy SB in the sale. I look like a monster working out regardless what I spend on gear so tend to get cheap stuff. Nike outlet for shoes.

ViserionTheDragon · 17/09/2019 22:20

I highly recommend Nike Fearless Flyknit 2, I have wide feet too and they are a great all round gym trainer. I do weights, HIIT and running and my feet are so comfortable!

Pinkarsedfly · 17/09/2019 22:23

I swear by DBL running tights, which is the own brand of Wiggle.com.

Really good performance and a brilliant price.
