Do any of you wear brogues to work?

MrsTumbletap · 11/08/2019 15:25

Do they look good?

I see them on models and think they look so comfy and stylish but feel I will look like a tit.

If you wear them are you super skinny and tall and 20?

Or are any of you slightly 'curvier' in your 30/40s?

I really want to wear them to work with a suit, dress etc but I need to know others are successfully wearing them that don't just look like Kate Moss!!

I do! Mid 30s, size 8 hourglass, 5ft7 - long legs and slender calves but disproportionately large thighs.

I wear them walking to and from work with anything, but also with slightly tapered ankle length trousers, blouse and manning blazer.

Also wear them with a denim midi skirt at the weekend. I get a lot of use out of them!

CuckooCuckooClock · 11/08/2019 15:34

Yes I wear mine all the time.
I have a black patent pair and a traditional tan leather. Both hamble oaks from Clark’s.
I wear them with cigarette pants or with dresses.
I’m late 30s, 5foot3, size 10, do not have particularly good legs sadly.

Floisme · 11/08/2019 15:34

I wear them all the time, mostly with ankle length trousers but occasionally with a midi skirt. I'm no longer super skinny but still pretty slim, short and 62.

I'm sure I do sometimes look a bit of a tit but I don't think it's because of my shoes.

lalaloopyhead · 11/08/2019 15:34

I do, 40 odd and quite short. I have tan, black, dark green, pink and silver! The tan ones go with everything and I wear with either trousers or skirts, the slightly jazzier ones just with trousers and plainer outfits.

CuckooCuckooClock · 11/08/2019 15:35

Am also not in the least cool though but I’m on my feet all day and like to be comfy

olderthanilookapparently · 11/08/2019 15:37

Those shoes look like some I have seen in COS

CountFosco · 11/08/2019 16:00

The second picture with the buckles are called monk shoes. I think they are awesome.

I wear laceup shoes fairly regularly to work, I have navy brogues (with the holes) from Dune and burgundy patent Derby's from Rogue Matilda. I wear them with ankleskimmers (clashing socks essential in the winter) or miniskirts and opaques. I'm 5'2" hourglass size 10.

RezCowgirl · 11/08/2019 16:25

I wear almost exclusively brogues to work with skirts or trousers. I'm also not willowy tall size 8. More like overweight hourglass at 5ft3. I have a oxblood pair of hamble oaks for winter and a pair of buttery soft tan leather from Hudson's for the summer months.

Lucked · 11/08/2019 16:34

I wear them with trousers usually 7/8 crops but my work dresses and skirts are a bit corporate and look a bit odd, I plan to buy some less formal/structured work dresses going forward.

shoe embassy do buckle brogues/Derby’s

Alsohuman · 11/08/2019 17:09

Definitely not tall and willowy, but I wear brogues a lot - with everything. My favourites are these

roguematilda.com/products/pear-drop?variant=21287970865234&currency=GBP&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-b7qBRDPARIsADVbUbUjIT3wFeViC550lhXIB_Wpb2ogPfqg1qc65_Zmpi7E3vqZux6Lh8saAuyYEALw_wcB

And I wear my white Hush ones all summer long.

MrsTumbletap · 11/08/2019 17:20

Ok thank you ladies, I am going to get some! I noticed the Hamble oaks ones on the Clark's website and thought they were lovely.

Ok so with cigarette trousers or slightly cropped seems key.

But how do you wear them with dresses? Do you wear tights? What length are the dresses?

What colour dress/tights/brogue combo do you do?

Love these ones I have circled as they are slightly pointy. No idea where they are from though. Anyone recognise the label?

I wear the Clarks hamble oaks. Really comfy and go with most things. Not pencil skirts.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/08/2019 17:30

I definitely fell into the 'tit' side, when I tried some on. Even with trousers, I just couldn't seem to make them work.

Alsohuman · 11/08/2019 17:56

All my dresses are mid calf or longer. I wear brogues with tights in the winter and bare legs in summer - basically treat them like trainers.

Runningonempty84 · 11/08/2019 18:07

I wear my tan brogues mainly with dresses. Either tea dress style or a floaty midi (think "the" Zara dress). Nude tights.

I'm 5ft 6, size 8/10. Short but ok legs.

brassbrass · 11/08/2019 18:10

Zalando has an extensive range flats and lace ups which include an array of brogues. I stopped wearing heels at work and wear brogues with trousers and with tights and skirts in winter. I struggle in summer without the tights though as not sure how to make them work with outfits based around skirts/dresses

dudsville · 11/08/2019 18:20

I wear brogues and loafers in spring and autumn, LOVE them. I only have three pairs of brogues; tan, black and oxblood. (And only 3 pairs of loafers; patent red, brown and something I don't know how to describe that's on a similar party of three colour wheel as the first two!)

MrsTumbletap · 11/08/2019 21:37

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I'm glad it's not just me then Grin

MrsTumbletap · 11/08/2019 21:38

I'm off to google 'the' Zara dress

I wear Hamble Oaks in navy, pewter and black, and a chunkier Clark’s style tokwuth a comando sole, whose name I have forgotten . These are all I wear to work. Skin leg trousers, Culottes, knee length jersey dresses.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 11/08/2019 21:51

I got some nice leather ones from new look (of all places!)

Am 48 size 14 FWIW (and 6ft tall)

Love them with dresses or trousers

Hurrah for proper shoes
