Cowboy boots - yes or no?!

cloudberry · 29/07/2007 17:48

I'm thinking of buying some cowboy boots. My much loved black suede ankle boots ave almost fallen to pieces and I keep thinking cowboy boots would be good but I can't decide on what colour to go for or leather or suede. I have no idea if they're "in" this winter but I think they're fairly timeless and will take a fair old hammering. I'm a short arse 5'3", so flat boots look awful on me, and high heeled boots are impractical with 2 toddlers and a rural life. I think these would be good but am dithering and need some style advice - please!!

um, no - I don't think so - what about some riding boots style boots, iykwim

MrsBadger · 29/07/2007 18:00

they are timeless in that IMO they look equally awful in any season of any year, I'm afraid...

If you don't do riding-type boots (bargain ones on Vertbaudet here at the moment) because they're too flat, try block heeled boots thus

Mrs Badger's selections are good I think !
lol ggirl

They are still going to be in fashion this winter, but in a slightly differnt guise to previous seasons. I think Chloe has some new ones out (for syle reference £££!!) but they are generally pretty trendy if done right. Needs to be done in a v trendy way though or can look totally wrong.

OMG - that photo!!!! Like that I'd agree 100%. NOOOOOOOO!! I wouuld NEVER wear them with a skirt or over trousers. No I was thinking under jeans worn long so that only the foot shows and certainly not in hideous colours. I'll try a link so that you can see what ones I'm thinking of. Mrsbadger, I like both of those. Timberland were doing some similar to the Vertebateau ones last winter but they looked very wide in the leg and I won't do the wellington boot look. I've looked at Duo and find them really dull, they haven't changed their styles since last winter. I already have some Frye boots which I love but they don't work with straight leg jeans, look too clumpy with a narrower leg and they are quite wide in the leg. This is why I'm thinking cowboy boots. The ones I'm replacing were from Hobbs years ago and are ankle length and similar in style to a cowboy boot but without the typical heel which I worry about. They have a normal heel but it's not flat flat which works with me but does have the pointed toe which I think works better with the narrower leg. Am I making any sense here?!! Anyway here's the link - one for a cowboy boot and one for what they call biker boots. these or these but not the cowhide ones on the second link.

If you're a rider, working around a farm, sure.

Otherwise . . . no.

bohemianbint · 29/07/2007 19:00

hmmm...it's all about footwear this weekend isn't it... generally quite horrible footwear...

MrsBadger · 29/07/2007 19:21

ah now the second-linked ones are much better than the first - it's the sloped heels on the first that make me run a mile.

FillydoraTonks · 29/07/2007 19:25

oh god, boots. there is NOTHING more mumsy than boots. ANY boots. They are basically what mums wear to look cool

but its TRUE

MrsBadger · 29/07/2007 19:28

you may well be right
but some of us have to take our cool where we can find it

bohemianbint · 29/07/2007 19:29

I love the fact that the company selling those boots are called R.Soles....

FillydoraTonks · 29/07/2007 19:29

but you are all so cool ANYWAY

ditch the boots. They are dragging you down

cloudberry · 29/07/2007 20:17

OK FillydoraT so what d'you wear instead? I've been wearing boots since I was about 20 which is a while ago and have never thought they were mumsy, never even crossed my mind ....! What I think of as mumsy are sensible shoes, loafer type things, flat riding boots (sorry!), flat flat as a pancake shoes. The fact that I posted this question is a huge indication that 'm not at all sure about them. I tend to be very impulsive and get things without too much thought but this time no. Maybe this should turn into a discussion on what type of shoes are deemed to be OK to wear!!

FillydoraTonks · 29/07/2007 20:21

um

thats ok cloudberry

its ok to disagree

I wouldn't be caught dead in boots, tbh. I do think they are mumsy. Unless they are worn by 16 yos. But when teamed with a tescos skirt and an excess of touche eclait-yes they look mumsy IMO. Sorry.

cloudberry · 29/07/2007 20:55

Oh FillydoraT I'm sorry. My last post came across as rather miffed and perhaps aggressive which I din't mean at all. I was just curious. That's what I like about Mumsnet - there are all sorts of views and opinions. It's like emailing people, you can't hear the smile in someone's voice and it can come across quite the wrong way can't it.

I'd still be interested in what people think would look OK with straight leg jeans as opposed to bootcut.

MrsBadger · 29/07/2007 21:00

[whistles nonchalantly as is still wearing mumsy bootcut jeans with her mumsy boots]

Whizzz · 29/07/2007 21:01

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

FillydoraTonks · 30/07/2007 07:46

oh lol cloud, its quite ok, have reread mine and its unintentionally bristly too.

let us agree to disagree re boots

also nothing necessarily WRONG with looking mumsy.

Its my personal horror to look like an nct member (though actually I AM, I even volunteer with them....) .

cloudberry · 30/07/2007 08:28

Don't get me started on the NCT ......!!!!!
