Cowboy boots - yes or no?!

cloudberry · 29/07/2007 17:48

I'm thinking of buying some cowboy boots. My much loved black suede ankle boots ave almost fallen to pieces and I keep thinking cowboy boots would be good but I can't decide on what colour to go for or leather or suede. I have no idea if they're "in" this winter but I think they're fairly timeless and will take a fair old hammering. I'm a short arse 5'3", so flat boots look awful on me, and high heeled boots are impractical with 2 toddlers and a rural life. I think these would be good but am dithering and need some style advice - please!!

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 30/07/2007 21:21

I like them cloudberry.

Plough your own furrow, cowgirl

binklehasflipped · 30/07/2007 21:22

nooooooooooooooooooo!!!

and while we're at it - say no to uggs too!

pointydog · 30/07/2007 21:24

NO.

People who wear cowboy boots would never ask if it's ok to wear cowboy boots.

Take your hesitation as a sign, cloud. You know it should not be.

pollypeachum · 30/07/2007 21:24

I can see why you would say that .
Sadly they don't take me all the way from my front door to the giddy social butterfly heights of lunch at Pizza Express with DTs. Or should that be the DTs as in delerium tremens, given that the babies are now a year and half and fond of fighting................

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 30/07/2007 21:25

I like uggs too.

Am I beyond hope?

At least I don't wear crocs

I've got gumboots, I'm a proper country bumpkin y'know. Like Pollyp we have dogs which tread mud all over my floor, my car and my feet. When I go outside to chop wood, feed chickens and pigs and smell the air and feel the rain I wear my GUMBOOTS, but when I go out to singing or tea with my dcs or shopping or even to see friends I'd like to wear something a little more exciting. Perhaps misguidedly I'd like to think I'm not entirely devoid of all style sense and gumboots really don't cut the mustard where we go singing anyway!!!! And I like Ugg boots, they're lovely and warm and it gets very cold in the winter here and we're too mean to have much heating so they're just the thing. I can't bring myself to wear trainers though I do wear converse ones and springcourts too. But boots in the winter feel nicer than canvas which are all leaky and cold. And I know there's been a recent thread about boots in July, but honestly this weather, and I'm trying to think ahead for once.

Mrs Snoek and SeptimusQuench, which ones do you like?

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 30/07/2007 23:19

I prefer those on the second link - a bit more versatile maybe? I'd go for nubuck or a darker suede.

FillydoraTonks · 31/07/2007 08:13

By Anniemac "But calling all boots "mumsy" was pure windup"

goodness, this has really gotten to you, hasn't it?

bozza · 31/07/2007 09:06

I must admit I do find wearing boots in summer odd. I know that it has been more sensible this summer than it usually is but I put all mine in a suitcase in the loft when we had that nice spell in April.

I am with filly in that I think there is too much of a reliance on the "jeans and boots" look. Last winter I found myself wearing my boots (they are knee length) mostly with skirts and then wearing shoes with my jeans.

Leati · 31/07/2007 09:13

If you are talking about sexy heeled cowboy boots (they aren't real cowboy boots but much cuter) then I say go for it. If you are talking about traditional flat heeled cowboy boots...Yuck

cloudberry · 31/07/2007 09:39

Enlighten me Leati, please

How about a softer style of biker boot? I'll see if I can find an example.

Leati · 31/07/2007 10:14

I would go with something like this or with maybe a smaller boot length

These are nice too
