Cowboy boots - yes or no?!

cloudberry · 29/07/2007 17:48

I'm thinking of buying some cowboy boots. My much loved black suede ankle boots ave almost fallen to pieces and I keep thinking cowboy boots would be good but I can't decide on what colour to go for or leather or suede. I have no idea if they're "in" this winter but I think they're fairly timeless and will take a fair old hammering. I'm a short arse 5'3", so flat boots look awful on me, and high heeled boots are impractical with 2 toddlers and a rural life. I think these would be good but am dithering and need some style advice - please!!

Filly, buy a copy of Vogue will you!

WallyHerbert · 30/07/2007 08:40

If you're going line-dancing.

FillydoraTonks · 30/07/2007 10:05

oh yes, can see me planning my wardrobe acc to clones in Vogue....

just cos its fashionable doesn't mean they don't make people look like ar$es. I give you empire line t shirts, that make EVERYONE look pg.

SweetyDarling · 30/07/2007 10:11

Agree, but will show you how boots can be un-mumsy!

pollypeachum · 30/07/2007 14:46

I have a pair of those RSoles Vegas boots. I only wear them with jeans and generally only in the country with my Brora cashmere
I quite like them (esp the reinforced pointy toes which make me feel as it I could win any kicking competition I got into) but they are not versatile - ie with anything other than long jeans they look dreadful.

pollypeachum · 30/07/2007 14:47

What does a Tesco's skirt look like anyway, compared to one from anywhere else?

cloudberry · 30/07/2007 14:55

Pollypeachum, clearly we could be twins!! Jeans, brora cashmere, boots and country living what more could a girl ask for...........................!!!!!

must also confess to owning a pair of those R. Soles cowboy boots.
In my defence I haven't worn them since a few years ago when they were V trendy...

So please anniemac, what would you suggest to solve my boot dlilemma, bearing in mind the issue of narrower legged jeans looking wierd with clumpier boots. This is insane, I'm trying to do some work here but keep having to have another peek! Please someone make some suggestions that won't be ridiculed as my cowboy boot fantasy is clearly doomed - on here anyway.

get floppy boots with turn over tops and tuck skinny jeans in?

[clueless, me]

welshmum · 30/07/2007 15:44

What 'look' are you after?
Are you bothered about looking vaguely fashionable or couldn't give a toss?
What will you be doing in your boots? (walking miles?)

cloudberry · 30/07/2007 16:56

Hmm, well I'm not too keen on being too dedicated a follower of fashion, the image of Victoria Beckham flashes garishly before me. I don't like being too salvish about anythingut on the other hand. Part of me says why give a f*, I like being independent minded, but there are extremes! I need something vaguely comfortable so stiletto heels are out. These boots are not for walking in ie striding out over the fields, I've got me wellies for that. Just something I can wear everyday and which won't ruin the first time it rains and I have to step into a puddle getting the dcs out of the car. BTW I don't have skinny jeans, just straight leg ones. And actually what's with the whole mumsy thing anyway, I AM a mum. I wouldn't be on here otherwise. Would rather veer in the vague direction of yummy mummydom (vague being the operative word here), rather than plod down the tracksuit bottoms, trainers and ... CROCS path!!!!!!, or morphing into my mother who's 68 and frankly hasn't a stylish bone in her body, bless her. I really don't like shops like Clarkes, I'd rather spend a bit more and get something that's decently made and will last a bit

Or even slavish

how do these rate on the mumsy scale?

bohemianbint · 30/07/2007 18:57
Wink
pollypeachum · 30/07/2007 19:54

If I was buying my RSoles boots again I would buy the square toed ones on your second link. I still might anyway .

cloudberry · 30/07/2007 20:20

Which colour would you go for? And nubuck or suede? The thing about the other ones is the heel, if I could find a boot with the toe of the cowboy boot - I quite like the pointed toe - but with a normal straight heel, I'd buy them. I love suede but it doesn't wear so well. Maybe I'll get the ones off the secodn link but with the other toe. I really need to see them in the flesh so to speak but don't get to London at all these days.

lol at being called a "he" and associated trolling inplications.

I can weigh in on bf vs bottle, routine vs not, sleep, froot shoots and the like but BOOTS. OHHHH no.

gosh this has stirred up strong emotions

I would prefer the nubuck but buy the palermo which I assume is leather. Country living (Mrs Badger take heart) is not all its cracked up to be. We live in a sea of mud most of the time and even if I don't step in it, the flaming dog does and then stands on my foot. Hence suede not being a good option for me and leather, polishable, being the best.
