@Huffthepuff no no no! Do not send back the long kimono - it looks great and I love it! Also love the Wyse London top - keep keep keep. Did you get the bag?

twosoups1972 · 19/07/2019 14:07

@SoyYo you are fabulous, you sound so together. Even at the age I am now (47) I still have so many niggling worries and am so hard on myself for minor things. At the weekend, we have a clash of 2 functions to go to. Had accepted one and explained that we couldn't come to the other (but I managed to get the actual wedding ceremony bit before going on to the other function). At around 9.30 at the function we were at, I had this mad idea of leaving and getting to the other event which finished later. This involved driving into town but luckily there was no traffic. Dh wasn't keen but he said ok. We arrived at the other function just in time to see our friends leaving to go home Shock Dh felt uncomfortable as he didn't really know anyone else (and I only knew a few people) so we didn't even stay to the end! All the next day I felt guilty that we had done the wrong thing by leaving function 1 early (and for nothing). I know it's a stupid thing but just an example of how I try to do the right thing by everyone and blame myself when it goes wrong.

twosoups1972 · 19/07/2019 14:11

@Huffthepuff I like the black Zara jacket but I can see what you mean about it not flowing. The fabric looks a bit stiff. The Wyse top is lovely!

Huffthepuff · 19/07/2019 14:54

Yes Soups very stiff. Such a shame

Haha Ella sorry but something's just not quite right. It is lovely tho. The fabric is gorgeous.
I didn't buy the bag. I've already bought this from Star Mela and I can't justify another beach bag

starmela.co.uk/product/alohi-palm-print-jute-tote-nat-gold/

Star Mela is beautiful. Do not look if you are on the no spend bench...

NotAnActualSheep · 19/07/2019 16:20

Oh soups - what a pain about your best laid plans and all...Obviously you know in your head it was just one of those things, and I'm sure you wouldn't have held it against your DH if he'd been the one to suggest it - so why do you feel you have to blame yourself?! I do know how you feel though - even though it is illogical. I get really annoyed with myself if I make a bad bus decision (decide to get a less convenient bus because it comes first - only to be passed by the ideal bus....yes, my life really is that exciting) which is much less annoying Blush .

soy - yy, I agree with the others - I love how free spirited, open and flexible you have been, and how that has rubbed off on your DSs! I wish I could be more like that, rather than feeling I have to have everything organised months in advance or I get anxious. Your motorbike trip across Spain sounds amazing (possibly terrifying for me - but still amazing!) I agree the red hush maxi would be ideal for a festival. Although it was a bit of a "just to see" purchase for me, it was probably my favourite outfit on holiday and got compliments from others at our hotel. Just felt so summery, easy to wear and "right". I've also worn with a cropped denim jacket since we've got back which works really well. So pleased with it Smile

huff - I have to say I agree with ella - the long patterned kimono/ tunic looks amazing on you, and is such a pretty fabric! Though if it doesn't feel right on, or something would annoy you about it, best to send it back. It does look fab though. The sparkly one looks great too, though I can see what you mean...even from the photo it doesn't look as flowy as the 100 stars ones. I think you're right to try for a better one of those, and i'm sure there will be a few around into autumn as people start thinking about coverups/ party wear and so on. The wyse top is beautiful too - love the sleeves. V jealous of the V&A trip - sounds brilliant.

gin - hope the weather holds for your festival! And hope your sleep has been getting a bit more normal. YY, broken/ no sleep can have such a negative impact on your whole life (one of the reasons we have only one DS is that he didn't sleep more than 3 hours at a time until he was fecking 3 and it nearly killed me).

just - love your eclectic purchases! Have to say, I'm intrigued by the heated rug. I have (v mild comparatively...and no nipple issues) Reynauds too - and that sounds loooovely. Though will have to see how that competes with the hot flushes this winter now I've started getting those with frightening regularity. I can see myself being two-toned ...white hands and feet and red everywhere else. Sort of like reverse sunburn. Sympathy with the nocturnal shouting birds. My DM was complaining about them the other week, and she's basically deaf, so they must have been REALLY LOUD. Was robins apparently. Possibly they had found a street light and had got confused.

nink - Oh, you sound so upbeat today! I'm so pleased for you. I know it's not an easy time, but I'm honestly really happy you have identified a way forward. Exciting - but also very scary presumably. But as you say, if you don't want to stagnate and constantly want to try new things it sounds just right for you, and yy, you can't let your health suffer. Yay! And, yes, please do use the thread to rant/ complain whatever, as you feel comfortable (though obv a public forum etc etc).

laska - hope your trip home goes smoothly. Must feel really weird to be coming back to "normality" after so long in your lovely retreat-home. At least you've got the parcels to look forward to (love those wide legs btw...was considering them too, but I have the denim wide leg/ paper bag ones that I thought were just a bit similar - and also now the culottes in the "maple" shade. I really need to calm down or my entire wardrobe will be toast and hush, and that's just a bit weird). I have a picture of your postman arriving with a builder's flatbed, and just tipping a pile of parcels onto your front drive! Will be like Christmas - you'll have to ration yourself to opening one a day or something...

And also - now I want a magnum you horrible people Grin . And if you will all shoogle along the bench please, that'd be lovely. (I've brought some Gin ).

Ellapaella · 19/07/2019 16:37

Oh Man! Looked at that StarMela site and had to stop and come off as it's divine! Such lovely tops.. I have no money to spend. I absolutely must have a month off buying clothes as we have summer hols now and I want spending money for days out and treats in Devon etc. All spare cash in August is for DC!

SoyYo · 19/07/2019 17:04

Yes naughty Huff that bag is beach perfect 🙈 I’m now tempted to browse the rest of the site too but maybe seeing Ella comment I’ll stay away? Actually I’ll browse (yes I will!) because today on this grey afternoon I’ve had a day off work, and my mobile curly hairdresser new girl got rid of my ratty ends and I feel so chilled and happy. It’s lovely to look at lovely style. And one of the great things on this thread is there’s always a new style place to explore recommended by real lovely women and not some vacuous instagrammer on brand sponsorship.

Before I go attaching a pic of happy (albeit tri colour) hair. She put in the CG friendly blue rinse which has toned down the red old dyed ends somewhat but I am now realising I’m much greyer than I thought. Not sure yet but I’ll leave it alone till the autumn and the next cut by which time I may go for a semi permanent wash if I don’t feel the old grey lady love 💕

soups no beating yourself up please! I’m not at all together, I stumble my way through life like the rest of them! Grin but I had a very eccentric and self centred mama, she messed me up a bit but as I get older i also appreciate that she brought me up very independent and telling me to be selfish like her so “non je ne regrette rien” and nor should you. You are too generous darling. You have a beautiful family. You are blessed. And next time follow your gut when you’re unsure what to do and you won’t go wrong.

I’m not even looking!!

(Also still really, really pining for that perfect little bag from R&B - I’ve had that in my mind for months and months now and hasn’t found it anywhere. Still not sure why I went for the shoes instead of just buying it...😭😭😭 does anyone know if the shops take payment over the phone?)

soy I really think we all have multiple lives and worlds inside us; if only we had time to live them all!

SoyYo · 19/07/2019 17:14

@NotAnActualSheep flatbed truck for Laska’s purchases Grin

SoyYo · 19/07/2019 17:17

@Ninkaninus I’m not a handbag connoisseur so couldn’t answer on the Shop question. Just get it or it’ll haunt you forever, give them a call!

And I agree with you. Too many alter egos. Too short a delicious life 💕

Ninkaninus · 19/07/2019 17:27

I’m waiting for my refund but yes, as soon as it’s back I’ll give the shops near me a call and see if they can do that. Some shops do but I have no idea if R&B do. It’s a long shot anyway since they have to actually one in stock. I’m praying that someone will return one in the next day or two so I can order it online, I’ve got it set to email me a notification.

NotAnActualSheep · 19/07/2019 18:54

Lovely hair soy ! So glad you're feeling relaxed and happy.

As huff told me not to look, I obviously had to look. And then did what ella did, and stopped looking! Some lovely stuff there...tops and bags especially. Why have I never heard of that site before?!

laska - I've just read on the news that there's been a big earthquake in Athens. Hope everything is OK where you are.

Huffthepuff · 19/07/2019 20:43

Yes your hair looks beautiful Soy!

Star Mela is indeed fabulous. And almost (not really) affordable in the sale, but the cost of delivery is prohibitive. They do have some stock on John Lewis tho. The bag I bought is gorgeous quality. Thick leather straps and falls in a really nice way

justilou1 · 19/07/2019 23:46

Your hair looks divine, @SoyYo!!! It’s so “YOU!” (Natural, glamorous, soft, feminine, gorgeous!!!) I see this hair being very at home with wafting kimonos and stunning Gudrun prints!
@NotAnActualSheep - the throw is nice!!! Our house lets the cold in. It’s designed to. Where we live, the period of “cold” is relatively mild and very short. Then it’s stinking hot and humid again, so the houses are designed for maximum airflow. There are about six weeks of people like me cursing the ventilated floorboards and my blue bits and pieces, then I start cursing the weather again.... (I am very consistent!) My DH hates electric blankets, and I can just pop this over myself on my side of the bed, or wrap around myself when I’m studying. Much more useful!!!

whiskyremorse · 20/07/2019 08:27

@soy, gorgeous hair, it will be interesting to see how the grey grows in. Mine is all at the front so far but I have a couple of inches of growth from growing out a home dye as I'm trying to go cold turkey. We shall see!

whiskyremorse · 20/07/2019 08:34

On the shopping front, I have bought this dress for work, it is much looser than the image, basically a triangle shape with a neat fitting top then flares out. With pockets! Lovely and wafty for work
www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-linen-blend-a-line-sleeveless-dress-417695.html

justilou1 · 20/07/2019 10:31

Gorgeous dress, @whiskyremorse!!! Love the colour & the style!!!!

whiskyremorse · 20/07/2019 11:03

@just thanks. I'm not good/brave with colour so I wore the black one first and got a couple of compliments so decided to keep the yellow one too

justilou1 · 20/07/2019 12:32

It’s lovely, @whiskyremorse! And you can wear it through Autumn as well, if the weather plays nice!

twosoups1972 · 20/07/2019 12:46

@SoyYo your hair looks beautiful! So so gorgeous Smile

Dd washed her hair last night and we experimented with a gel cast. Not sure if we did it right - we scrunched through some Cantu curl activator and custard like usual, then applied some CG friendly gel and scrunched again. This morning her hair is so much better....she doesn't hate it and, dare I say, vaguely likes it! She still wants more body at the top but I'm hoping the curly girl cut next Friday will help with that.

@whiskyremorse the dress is lovely and I love the colour.

We are off today to look for a rucksack for dd1's inter-railing trip. Then we have booked to see the new Lion King film tonight. Dd3 has been in a lovely mood (rare!) and is getting on fantastically with her older sister so hope it lasts!

Tomorrow we are packing for our Stockholm trip. Have a lovely weekend everyone Smile

Ellapaella · 20/07/2019 14:25

Sounds exciting Soups - I'd love to go to Stockholm

twosoups1972 · 20/07/2019 14:26

I’m still tempted by the Hush pink/orange ombré top but it hasn’t gone down in the sale unfortunately.

Ninkaninus · 20/07/2019 14:41

Hi everyone!

soups is it your first visit to my corner of the world?

(I’m danish but I was born in Sweden)

I’ve heard good things about the ABBA museum, and if you can, make sure to visit Stockholm Old Town, it’s lovely to walk round.

Ninkaninus · 20/07/2019 14:43

soy your hair is gorgeous! Beautiful curls.

Ninkaninus · 20/07/2019 14:46

Also souls fjallraven does very good rucksacks! They are expensive but extremely well made and will last her for years. If you can find one it would be a great option for her trip I’m sorry if you’ve said before but how long is she going for? I’m envious - I have always wanted to go inter-railing!
