Went out this afternoon to the library and shops, and I just feel so damned scruffy compared to everyone else. They all seem to look so well put together, whereas I look thrown together IMO.

I am alwasy clean and tidy, hair done make up on etc, but feel like I am not making the best of myself.

I really struggle with buying clothes, I have no confidence in choosing stuff that I like and so stick to safe things, and I have no idea what is in and whats not.

Today I had on dark jeans, white vest top with cerise pink hooded top over it, and white and cerise pink puma trainers.

I felt scruffy.

I am 29, 5'2 and a size 12 (verging on 14 ), and need some help.

Oh and broke so bargains a must.

I'm afraid I agree with Malory, I wouldn't wear a hoodie outside, although admittedly I'm not as young as you anymore either. I don't think you'd have looked scruffy, in fact nicely colour coordinated, just not elegant, if that's what you're aiming for.

Yeah elegant thats it, not old lady elegant though LOL.

That tops nice, and I do have some like that.

I think sometimes i just go for the quick and easy option.

I am trying to get some bits of costume jewellery when the shops have sales, as I think that always makes whatever I wear look better.

Have a few handbags so depends what I am wearing. Today I had an across the body bag.

Have got black ones, white ones, brown ones etc, mainly primark ones.

I also have flip flops but they aren't very comfy.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I do love their pumps, was looking at them the other day, but even in the sale they are too pricey for me at the mo.

Don't mind buying cheap rip offs though LOL.

nutty they have lots of those kind of jumpers/tops in primark v cheap. get a couple of colours that suit you

and a cheapish jacket from there too - but not too thin fabric as it looks cheaper. maybe a denim/canvas/cord one for the autumn.

don't overdo it with jewellery - either necklance or earrings, not both. bit of fairly neutral lippy makes a world of difference.

Agree with all that malory says!!

I made a deal with myself a few years ago to never wear tracksuit bottoms out in the real world unless I was running etc. And thats not going to happen as I dont run! (Thats not including when I'm gardening etc.)

And same with the trainers.
Only worn if its muddy or I'm doing lots of walking and I'm going to a farm/park/theme park etc

I make just a bit more of an effort and it makes me feel loads better.

All bargains though. Pradamark, Matalan, George etc.

Look in heat at the fashion pages to get ideas of whats 'in' then decide what you like.

No ponytails either. I straighten my hair and wear minimal make up. Tinted moisturiser and eyeshadow, mascara etc.

LoveAngel · 25/07/2007 17:08

Scarp hoodies, trainers, sportswear in general. Its not sexy on grown women (I took a long time to learn this vital lesson!).

Ohhhh trip to Primark needed then.

With the jewellery I normally only wear a bracelet or necklace not both unless quite plain, and I don't wear dangly earrings anyhow, just plain silver studs.

I mean I wear tracksuit bottoms when I'm gardening not run when I'm gardening. That sounded odd when I read it back....

nutcracker · 25/07/2007 17:10

Back in a bit, have to peel spuds.

what's your hair like?

bundle · 25/07/2007 17:11

what's your hair like?

bootleg linen trousers in M&S for £15 says they're perfect for hourglass figures! (not that I know that's what you have )

lou33 · 25/07/2007 17:13

get rid of trainers, get rid of hoodies

flip flops, kitten heels, fitted jackets

nutcracker · 25/07/2007 17:21

I do really want some linen trousers but haven't found any that fit right yet.

I have a black casual style fitted jacket, and a beige cord fitted one.

My hair is long and straight, but I am having it cut into inverted bob in a few weeks.
