Perfumes you have but just can't get to like

In other words collecting dust on your dressing table?! I've had Daisy for years, and really don't like it. JM Nectarine Blossom and Honey I'm rarely in the right mood for so have had it sitting for years as well. I do like my perfumes though - maybe the problem is I have too much choice!

Just me then?!

Flours d'Oranger by Serge Lutens - it's just too much!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 19/06/2019 22:02

Fleurs, even.

DontTouchMyCurls · 19/06/2019 22:11

D&G Light Blue. Everybody seems to love it but I hates it and couldn't get further than a quarter of the bottle

clucky3 · 19/06/2019 22:17

@Tawdrylocalbrouhaha I LOVE fleurs d'oranger! Just waiting for the weather to get summery so I can start wearing it again .

The stuff I can't get on with: Jo Malone's lime basil and mandarin, elie Saab, and Santal 33. Thankfully only have a sample of that last one. It's so expensive and absolutely bloody horrible.

TheCanterburyWhales · 19/06/2019 22:45

Anything containing oud. Makes me heave. Any cumin notes also have me scrubbing as they just smell like old sweat.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 19/06/2019 22:57

F d'O makes me smell like an orange split ice lolly when I put it on, then later it smells like I'm sweating out a tagine. I love it on other people though!

Isthebigwomanhere · 20/06/2019 00:03

Alexander McQueen has been gathering dust since the first wear.
It's just not for me

friendlyflicka · 20/06/2019 00:06

chanel no 19 even though I like all other Chypres and yes, Santal 33 - find too heavy even though I like woody

TheFutureMrsB · 20/06/2019 00:09

I love Daisy but can't get on with Alien at all. I try it now and again but hate it on me.

Housewife2010 · 20/06/2019 04:07

If you have a perfume you don't wear you should eBay it. I've sold lots of perfumes I decide that I don't love on eBay.

AgentProvocateur · 20/06/2019 04:18

I’ve got a brand new bottle of some Penhaligon’s perfume that DH bought as he said it was the most beautiful scent he’d ever smelled. I can’t bear it. I’ve worn it once or twice to keep him happy, but it actually makes me feel sick now. I might eBay it...

Pinkarsedfly · 20/06/2019 04:22

Chanel No.5. I just hate it.

Joy by Jean Patou. I bought it in an attempt to be grown up and sophisticated. Instead it gave me a banging headache.

One of the Molecules - I love 0.1, so bought a sample box of the others. Jesus. One in particular smelt like a full dustbin on a hot day. Just foul.

I also recently bought Jo Loves White Rose and Lemon, with a plan to have it as my wedding perfume. An expensive mistake. I find anything Jo Malone creates to be cloyingly sweet. I wore my old favourite Fracas instead.

Penhaligons Luna. LOVE Bluebell, did the online test thing to see what else I’d like (I know...) and ordered it. Another cloyingly sweet headache in a bottle.

WeCameToDance · 20/06/2019 09:28

Daisy here too. Dh and family went through a phase of buying me Marc Jacobs perfumes when I'm not particularly keen on them. I managed to give the daisy dream away to a family member who liked it and I didn't hate the Dot one so used all of that. I am now left with daisy languishing on my dressing table. At least the bottle is pretty!
On a similar note, one of my favourite scents is Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay but for some reason on me it turns into this seaweed smell on me within 30 minutes. Not ideal. I have started spraying it on my clothes instead.

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 20/06/2019 13:59

Get yourselves on Fragrantica and start swapping! :D Or Fragrance Sale/Swap/Split UK on facebook. Or, ebay. The Alexander McQueen in particular is likely to attract lots of attention

BlueMerchant · 20/06/2019 14:06

I don't like the Daisy either and use it very rarely. I don't get what all the fuss is about it. Jimmy Choo is also a bit meh and JPG Classique I had to bin. I couldn't find anyone to take it off my hands.

twilightcafe · 20/06/2019 14:11

I couldn't get on with Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey - too sickly on me.
The clove note in Pomegranate Noir gives me a headache.

Cannyhandleit · 20/06/2019 14:15

Flowers by kenzo 🤢🤢🤢🤢

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 20/06/2019 14:19

@Cannyhandleit one of my favourites! :D

keepingbees · 20/06/2019 14:20

I was given Angel as a gift. Revoltingly sickly sweet. Same with Ghost and the various other ones in the Ghost range that DH always buys me

Chickydoo · 20/06/2019 14:32

I love Fleurs D'oranger, the ones I can't abide on me or anyone are Chloe ( find it just clings to everything) Chanel no 5. Just yuck!
Also hate Angel & Alien.
I tend to like most of the lighter Jo Malone scents. Or some of the the Hermes ones.

Aph413 · 20/06/2019 14:40

I have a large brand new bottle of Miss Dior gathering dust. Loved it on the tester card, could've sworn I tried it on before I bought it. It smells awful on me though.

BlueMerchant · 20/06/2019 16:46

@keepingbees Angel is heavenly. Love Love LoveShock

Tinyteatime · 20/06/2019 16:53

JM nectarine blossom and honey is one of my faves. I used to love Chanel mademoiselle, wore if for years but I can’t bring myself to put it on now. I think I went off it when Lidl brought out the dude that smelled identical. JM Pom noir used to be a fave and the same thing seems to have happened (Aldi this time ) so I hope I don’t go off that too as I’ve got loads of the stuff. I clearly have very mass market tastes! I tried molecule 1 and really couldn’t stand it, now I know what the scent is I recognise it on others too and it makes me feel a bit sick.

runflorestrun · 20/06/2019 16:59

Lancôme La Vie est Belle. Tried a tiny sample bottle and loved it, bought the full size and it makes me feel 🤢 (wondering if it's due to the amount that sprays from a bigger bottle)
