Perfumes you have but just can't get to like

In other words collecting dust on your dressing table?! I've had Daisy for years, and really don't like it. JM Nectarine Blossom and Honey I'm rarely in the right mood for so have had it sitting for years as well. I do like my perfumes though - maybe the problem is I have too much choice!

Alien. An ex boyfriend got it for me and I hated it

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 20/06/2019 19:13

Having looked through my collection, I have Organza Indecence and Amarige Mariage that I just don't use. I used to love them - now I just find them too much.

Lefields · 20/06/2019 19:54

Hugo Boss Femme (or something like that) wasn’t cheap but smells cheap and just...eurgh!

Inforthelonghaul · 20/06/2019 20:22

Chanel Chance and CK Eternity Summer. The Chanel just smells too businessy (I know it’s not really a word) and doesn’t suit me. Eternity is my favourite perfume as it’s the first one DH ever bought me and I love it. The Summer edition is just meh.

ZootSuit · 20/06/2019 20:28

@Isthebigwomanhere which Alexander McQueen? I would probably take it off your hands if you were looking to sell it on!

For myself, my sister bought me a bottle of Lady Million at the time when it was massively popular. Think I’ve sprayed it once and just not a fan. It’s one of those ones that just seems to smell blah to me

Isthebigwomanhere · 20/06/2019 20:39

@ZootSuit will just go have a look

user1471465525 · 20/06/2019 21:31

Daisy also, the scent isn't really of anything in particular if that makes sense.

Isthebigwomanhere · 20/06/2019 21:34

@ZootSuit it's in a glass bottle with a black lid and it has a black label on it that say McQueen

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 20/06/2019 21:38

Chanel Chance.

I love it on other people, so much so that after giving my first bottle away to my mum I bought another but I still can't wear it.

When I wear it, I'm reminded of a very difficult time in my life but oddly, other people wearing it does not trigger those memories and it smells so lovely.

Rathkelter · 20/06/2019 21:41

L'Occitane Jasmine. I have a large bottle. It seems to last incredibly long, so despite trying to get through it, the bottle never seems to get lighter. And every way I turn my head I can smell it on myself. I don't think my Lime Basil JM has anywhere near the same impact. Wish it did!

MyHairNeedsASnip · 20/06/2019 22:12

Oh God so many. Daisy, Flowerbomb, 2 x Jo Malone stinkers, Boss Orange that smells horrible on me since I had a baby, a big bottle of something he got me from duty free... I feel like I have hundreds of pounds worth of smells going to waste, while I'm wearing soapy dupes from the perfume parlour day to day.

PeoniesarePink · 20/06/2019 22:17

I blind bought Alexander McQueen on reviews alone and can't bear it on me. Even my DDs have said Ew! I've got a Jo Malone orange blossom that smells like Zoflora - bloody vile. I keep buying JM and it really doesn't suit my skin at all - I've had the Blush Suede and Peony that set off awful headaches, same with the English Oak.

I must stop buying perfume online!!

YouDidntJustSayThat · 20/06/2019 22:22

Narciso Poudre. I have an intense love hate relationship with it.

Inforthelonghaul · 21/06/2019 08:22

The perfume that my youngest says smells of Mum is Daisy eau so fresh Delight. I love it but it’s long run out - what idiot buys a limited edition and wears it so often it becomes ‘her’ smell🤦‍♀️I didn’t even love it that much but now it’s like gold dust.

katseyes7 · 21/06/2019 09:45

l haven't worn any for ages. My two favourites (Penhaligon's Elixir and Lancôme's Miracle So Magic) were both discontinued at the same time, and l can't find another one l like.
l've tried loads, l like them when l first put them on, then after about 10 minutes, l can't stand them.
So until l find one l really like, l'm having to do without.

ImpracticalCape · 21/06/2019 09:56

Chanel Coromandel. Eye wateringonglu expensive. I love the idea of it and the initial scent but every time I wear it it gives me a headache and a vomity feeling after an hour or so.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 21/06/2019 12:31

I have almost every iteration (frag + bath products) of Le Labo Rose 31 which I love in theory but can't really use anymore. Something in there is like a bottle brush in my sinuses. Dh came out of the shower smelling delicious and it transpired he'd used the shampoo and conditioner, so apparently I still enjoy the smell in passing but when I wear it I feel like the inside of my head is on fire. It's a bit of a sicky/headachy/smothery feeling.

It might be one of the rose notes. Neals Yard rose facial oil has a similar effect though I love their wild rose line (which causes no problems) so go figure.

pinkhousesarebest · 21/06/2019 12:37

Escale à Portofino makes my eyes water and I love citrussy scents. My ds bought me Jo Malone Pommegranate for my birthday shortly before my mum died and I have never been able to wear it as I have such a profound association with her wake and funeral. One of the Aqua Allegoria ones that I bought by mistake.

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 21/06/2019 12:48

ImpracticalCape - if it's the EDT version, I'd totally buy it off you! ;)

sheshootssheimplores · 21/06/2019 12:52

I only let DP buy me miniatures for this exact reason. I don’t think I’ve ever really found a perfume I love so just motor through what I have and use the terrible mistakes as room fresheners 😳

crochetmonkey74 · 21/06/2019 12:56

Chanel no 5 - it GENUINELY smells like urine on me

Stumpedasatree · 21/06/2019 13:02

@Inforthelonghaul that is the exact version of the Daisy I have and dont like!

chaosisaladder · 21/06/2019 13:02

Second that about loving the sample and buying the bottle only for it to be horrible! So annoying. I’ve given so many bottles away (not to mention all the perfumes my DM keeps buying me that are, ah, vile Grin)

EnormousDormouse · 21/06/2019 13:11

katseyes7 I think I have a bottle of Elixir tucked away at home - I'll check when I'm back at the weekend

sergeilavrov · 21/06/2019 15:10

I can second Chanel No. 5. My grandmother wore it and I have fond memories of how comforting her scent was as a child. I, however, smell like a drunk fox has pissed on me after just a light spritz.
