Went to Bravissimo on Sunday to get fitted....

... and thought they were great! The fitter was really helpful, and from my vague descriptions of what I wanted she somehow managed to find bras I loved. She was very thorough - even suggesting that I try on the different colours I wanted in the same style, just in case there were any tiny differences in fit. She also stressed that quite often you need different sizes in different makes/styles, and I did indeed come out with bras in two different sizes. She didn't rush me at all, and kept bringing different styles and sizes until we were both happy.
I thoroughly recommend them! So much better than my last long and unproductive session in John Lewis

Ceolas, I am sure that is a huge huge myth. I went to M&S and they said, well this is your measurement, we add X inches and this is your size and I was swimming in the stupid bra! If I slipped the straps off it practically fell to my feet.
At Bravissimo they don't measure you, just look at you in your bra and know.

Lizzzombie · 25/07/2007 20:46

CG - I'm jealous of your loft savings! When I take my bra off...I have very warm knees!!!!!

Ceolas · 25/07/2007 20:46

So just measure round your chest and bob's your uncle?

M&S said I was a 42B but the bras never fitted...

Lizzzombie · 25/07/2007 20:47

We "just know" because we have special magical boob powers!

soyabean · 25/07/2007 20:47

Aloha I think you have moved but used to live a few streets from me and you were asking about primary school? We nearly managed a cup of tea together but were on differnt timetables! It may have been more than a year ago, time flying as it does!

Ceolas · 25/07/2007 20:48

And measuring round my 36 week pg chest it's 38...

barbamama · 25/07/2007 20:48

I went to the Brighton one last week!!! It was definitely worth it - I drove down from Surrey 45 mins specifically.

I was wearing completely the wrong size - I always find bras uncomfortable and had been wearing 38D or 40D and could never understand why I must have a massive back compared to others, noone had ever explained the thing about the numbers going down as the cup size goes up so now it makes much more sense and I got a 34G I think it was - eek, big boobs, was a nursing bra to be fair so the assistant advised getting it roomy. She was great, really helpful. I will definitley be going back there to get my bras from now on.

Lizzzombie · 25/07/2007 20:48

Ceolas - dont take this the wrong way, but a 42" back would indicate that you are rather round. What dress size do you take?
I have fitted women who were seriously large (fk it, they were FAT) and they still got into a 38 or a 40" back.

soyabean · 25/07/2007 20:48

Got to go now but will report back when I manage to go shopping. Night all, and thanks!

hoxtonchick · 25/07/2007 20:49

oh i love bravissimo. got some good sale bargains there last week. and the most fabulous nonsale bra plus knickers.

Lizzzombie · 25/07/2007 20:49

barbara - was it me??? was I the one who sorted you out??!

CarGirl · 25/07/2007 20:49

I'd love to be a bra fitter to see those women with properly secured norks for the first time.....

Have been saving for 5 years for the loft conversion.....currently on a mortgage holiday and still overpaying to save up.....will have a good laugh at quote we are getting done on monday!

barbamama · 25/07/2007 20:50

That is what I could never understand! I am medium build but around a size 12-14 so couldn't understand why I was wearing 38 or 40.

Ceolas · 25/07/2007 20:50

Good luck soyabean. Hope you get 'sorted'

barbamama · 25/07/2007 20:51

It might have been you? I was heavily pregnant and bought one of the flowery nursing bras, you were very helpful and I was very chuffed to get a bra that fit properly - I think it was last Wednesday.

Lizzzombie · 25/07/2007 20:52

I have that bra!
I only work on Saturdays at the moment, so it wasnt me. Glad you had a nice experience there though. x

hotcrossbunny · 25/07/2007 20:52

You are the sort of fitter I need when I go shopping Lizzz! I usually end up buying the wrong size just to keep the lady fitting me happy... they are never comfy or flattering.

aloha · 25/07/2007 20:52

Ah yes! I'm in E Dulwich now!
I am in awe of the special boob powers. My fitter was lovely too. I know people love R&P but I went there once and there was an old bat who peered at my naked boobs over the top of her horn-rimmed specs and it wasn't the most comfortable experience of my life.

Lizzzombie · 25/07/2007 20:53

warning - Saturdays are a nightmare at ALL BRAVISSIMO stores. Very very busy. Most shops do 20 minute appointments. Do ring and make one before hand if you are travelling. Else you may have to sit and wait for a while.

Lizzzombie · 25/07/2007 20:55

I never 'peer at womens naked boobs' thats unneccessary. You can do it whilst the woman is wearing a bra.
hotxbunny - where do you live? I love shopping with other people!

hotcrossbunny · 25/07/2007 20:57

I'm near Guildford. Do you live in Brighton or just work there?

Lizzzombie · 25/07/2007 20:58

Live in Eastbourne.
Work in Brighton (Saturdays only)
Dream job would be a personal shopper! Shopping is no fun for me as I have NO MONEY!!!

aloha · 25/07/2007 20:59

Yes, the lack of peering at naked boobs at Bravissimo is fab. They do that at Rigby & Peller, and I didn't much care for it.

CarGirl · 25/07/2007 20:59

Can you apply to Debenhams to be a personal shopper?

Lizzzombie · 25/07/2007 21:02

Eastbourne Debs doesnt do it.
Would love to though. Also, have 6 month old, so unless he came along too...its not really worth it £.
Have thought about doing it independantly, but eastbourne is full of grannies, so I would spend too much time in Edinburgh Woollen Mill for my liking!!!
