Is there any other way I could disguise my stomach in this dress...

Apart from wearing really uncomfortable support pants all day (I’ve still got to go out and try a few different makes/sizes)!

I love the dress and possibly teaming it with a brown leather look jacket/denim jacket. The brown jacket hides my stomach, the denim doesn’t. Also, if it’s really warm these jackets aren’t suitable.

Is there anything long, lightweight and floaty I could wear over?

I was even tempted to buy a bum bag to rest upon my protruding shelf Grin

Dress is nothing spectacular but I love the length, looks great on the boobs but my belly = urgh!

Tips greatly welcome.

How big is your stomach?

SweetMarmalade · 18/05/2019 11:38

It’s not huge but a bit bloaty, enough that you can see it as the material clings slightly in that area. Enough that I would feel uncomfortable not disguising it.

Other option is to ab crunch the hell out of it but that’s for another time Blush

Would a bigger size help? Or maybe some underwear that's an all in one to hold your tummy in a bit?

shitpark · 18/05/2019 11:46

Maybe draw attention to other parts of yourself that you love. Wear a long necklace that, or make your hair look extremely good, make up ditto. I once heard that if you roll up sleeves to elbows your waist looks narrower, sorry haven't clicked on the link, my iPad is frustratingly slow

Ginkypig · 18/05/2019 12:09

Would a slip be enough to stop the material clinging? Or do you feel you need something more sukky in?

Our mothers and grandmothers were on to something with proper undergarments!

LoafofSellotape · 18/05/2019 12:11

Go up a size?

lawdylawd · 18/05/2019 12:13

Go up a size and grab a belt to cinch in slightly at the waist!

Skyejuly · 18/05/2019 12:14

Spanx!

SweetMarmalade · 18/05/2019 12:18

I think even if I went up a size, it would still cling to the stomach.

Looks great in the boob area and everywhere else.

I was looking online for belts, not the fitted type but something I could wear around the waist, something which could possibly drape around that area?

Some great ideas from everyone. Sorry I’m on my phone so can’t remember names who have posted.

Might look into funky necklaces, draw the eye away from the problem area.

Are Spanx comfortable all day?

VioletCharlotte · 18/05/2019 12:24

I think you need to either wear it as it is and not worry about your stomach or choose something else. It's not really the sort of dress you could wear anything floaty with. It would look great with a denim jacket if it's not too warm.

Are you able to post a pic of you wearing the dress so we can see? I expect it looks fine, we're our own worst critics!

SweetMarmalade · 18/05/2019 12:28

I will come back later, hopefully get dp to take a pic (if I’m brave enough).

I really like the dress. I wear the Primark spanx knickers (really high waisted) they are fine to wear all day, although it is a relief when they come off!

Someone mentioned it above but would a slip work? I think it might just be that type of material that clings though.

Skyejuly · 18/05/2019 12:32

I've worn them all day for events but not an every day thingxx

SweetMarmalade · 18/05/2019 13:31

I need this but check out the price Shock Grin

Honestly if you have a big stomach you should just accept it. Trying to hide or disguise it often just makes it look bigger (waist trainers etc just push the fat up or down or to the side; so unless you’re a thin size 6 with a tiny tummy you often just end up looking a lot bigger).

Floisme · 18/05/2019 13:42

I'm sorry to be a naysayer and I know I haven't seen a photo yet but I think that style of dress is always pitiless on the stomach, especially if it's a clingy fabric. The all-over pattern offers a bit of distraction and good underwear will give you a smoother line - don't forget a decent bra to lift boobs out of the way. But the fundamental issue is still there. I'm not a huge fan of Spanx either as I find it uncomfortable and my displaced flab just pops up somewhere else.

I don't know if you're on a deadline but honestly if it was me, I'd try and get a similar look through wide, floaty trousers and a top. I find that's a far more forgiving combination, especially with a bit of judicious half tucking.

hugoagogo · 18/05/2019 13:46

I would try a slip, especially as you say it fits well otherwise.

Would an obi belt help? It’ll define the waist and the extra fabric may distract from your stomach.

troppibambini · 18/05/2019 14:27

Spanx higher power pants.
They go from bra strap to mid thigh so no bulges. The best by far.

SweetMarmalade · 18/05/2019 16:13

First time trying to take a selfie in the mirror!

Think it looks pretty awful now. Obviously was wearing dressing room specs. My boobs look huge on the side profile one and you can see the stomach ripple on the front. Luckily I kept the receipt!

On the plus, I love the length! Just wish it wasn’t so clingy!

I think youd just need to go one size up, it would look lovely with a denim jacket x

QueenofLouisiana · 18/05/2019 16:27

I’d go with obi belt suggested by a PP.
