Is there any other way I could disguise my stomach in this dress...

Apart from wearing really uncomfortable support pants all day (I’ve still got to go out and try a few different makes/sizes)!

I love the dress and possibly teaming it with a brown leather look jacket/denim jacket. The brown jacket hides my stomach, the denim doesn’t. Also, if it’s really warm these jackets aren’t suitable.

Is there anything long, lightweight and floaty I could wear over?

I was even tempted to buy a bum bag to rest upon my protruding shelf Grin

Dress is nothing spectacular but I love the length, looks great on the boobs but my belly = urgh!

Tips greatly welcome.

Buy a crossbody bag, this helps mask any tummy, - hopefully I've added a photo (off the web) to show example.

In that picture I'm drawn to your boobs!

I think because you don't like your tummy your eyes will automatically go there and critic how bad it looks. But honestly, it does draw attention to your chest rather than tummy

NomDeQwerty · 18/05/2019 16:40

Try a sheer slim silk scarf in the beige not black. Tie it so it's not spread out and it follows the neckline and falls centrally over your tum.

BollocksToBrexit · 18/05/2019 16:41

I think it looks really good on you. As the PP said, it draws attention to your boobs. I wouldn't notice the tummy at all.

A bit like this though it's hard to see and I know it's part of the dress.

Redcrayons · 18/05/2019 16:58

I’ve got some support knickers from M&Smwhich are really high waisted, I could probably tuck my bra into them. They don’t really pull me in that much, but do smooth it all out. My ‘problem’ area is my csection overhang. They aren’t that tight and not at all Uncomfortable.

The dresss looks great on you, fits really well on your bust and waist. Keep it!

VioletCharlotte · 18/05/2019 17:01

I think it looks good on you. Your boobs look fab! Honestly, no one will be looking at your tummy, people will be far too busy worrying about their own outfits and perceived imperfections. I wouldn't wear spanx. I wore them once and they were so uncomfortable, it ruined my night.

hugoagogo · 18/05/2019 17:08

I'm not mad about the print on that dress, but it fits you fine and it really doesnt look like it's clinging to your tum in that photo.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 18/05/2019 17:10

Go up a size, and I'd wear a slip underneath it (I'm not old - in my 20's, I just think that they work wonders!) - and that will make it lie much more nicely!

LoafofSellotape · 18/05/2019 17:25

I think you're being really hard on yourself,it looks really nice.

LoafofSellotape · 18/05/2019 17:26

If you go up a size I think it might fit better just under the bust too. Try it and see.

youarenotkiddingme · 18/05/2019 17:37

It looks great. Agree you are being overly self critical.

I have some pants that come up to the waist for dresses like that. I prefer it and they are just cotton so comfy.

Never underestimate how much a granny pant can add comfort Grin

Furball · 18/05/2019 17:40

I find a full silky underslip like this one helps skim the body and stops material clinging to where you don't want it to cling

your tummy in the photo isn't as bad as you think btw! Smile

TheBossOfMe · 18/05/2019 17:43

I think it looks fine! But if you're bothered by your tummy, a shapewear slip works well - like this.

Oh yes!Grin

Thank you, you’re all very kind. Flowers

I can’t remember who posted about the belt idea from ASOS? but thank you. That’s a possible option I’ve not dismissed yet, also scarf idea is another great tip.

I think I’ll try the next size up (Sad) and see if I feel better about the stomach area. I’ll also pay a visit to a large M&S near to me to try on their big pants Grin.

Might just check out their dresses too.

Going to be late next week before I can go back, hopefully they’ll have my size. If not, there was a maxi dress but I quite like the length of the midi.

TheBoss, are they comfy?

I’m thinking of all the miles we walk when we’re down London and the thought of feeling constricted makes me shudder.

LoafofSellotape · 18/05/2019 17:56

A belt will spoil the line of the dress imo, I think sizing up will fix it BUT if you wore it now as it is you would still look great. You're being hugely self critical and with no reason,I'd LOVE your stomach!

SweetMarmalade · 18/05/2019 18:03

Loaf, it jiggles when I walk (think there’s a song in there somewhere Wink) but thank you Flowers

I’m liking the bag idea too, thanks pp who suggested this.

LoafofSellotape · 18/05/2019 18:22

Big knickers it is then, but I'd still love a stomach like yours ,honestly!

spongedog · 18/05/2019 18:29

I dont normally comment on style and beauty threads (having none myself) but that dress looks lovely on you. I am not sure about the jacket options being more of a cardigan person myself (including the dreaded waterfalls!). Are you wearing it for a particular occasion or smart everyday?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/05/2019 19:23

Next size up, full slip and you'll be fine. I really like it on you!

SweetMarmalade · 18/05/2019 19:36

Blush thank you, so lovely of you all giving me a boost with your fab comments.

I do focus on that area and know it needs work (stomach and thighs) and think I possibly do need to go up a dress size, just to see if it improves the look.

I wear long shorts with a high waist with dresses..lace trim and not that ugly.

GBroGal · 18/05/2019 20:14

M&C do a popcorn tie shrug - they are in a very open weave fabric, so wouldn't be too hot. That could work. It isn't working as a link but here's the web address:
