@Huffthepuff I love your pics. I particularly love the marina skirt and actually think it looks good with the stripey top!

@ilovecherries what a crying shame for your dd - just so unfair.

Just got back from Rome after a 3 hour flight delay - sitting in taxi catching up with this thread. Lovely sunny weather to come home to but sad to say goodbye to Rome.

ilovecherries · 29/04/2019 17:49

Your photos were just lovely, Ella. Glad you had a good time.

I’m not sure what to do about her car longer term. My old one has 10 months of mot on it (good), but it’s also a petrol car with 130K miles on it (bad). She really can’t afford to buy another car so soon, but she’s working so hard to build up her training business, and for that she needs more mobility than rural public transport offers her. It seems so unfair that a no-fault accident loses you thousands.

Huffthepuff · 29/04/2019 18:03

My first car was written off Cherries after a break in and I accepted (gladly) a £330 payout from the insurance company and then saw my car insurance premium go up by £400 to £800 the following year and it took 5 years to get it down to a sensible amount so I wish I hadn't claimed. So unfair that the other driver doesn't immediately get found at fault. I thought that was the case if they went in the back of you? So annoying.

Huffthepuff · 29/04/2019 18:05

Thanks Ella! Yes I think it looks good with the stripy top in this photo! Less good in real life as the blues don't compliment each other so well. Glad you loved Rome. Did you feel happy with all the clothes you took? Did you get a chance to go shopping in the end?

Laska2Meryls · 29/04/2019 18:42

Out to day and bought Another check shirt!! Ok...Hmm but its much nicer than the ones I threw away .. .

The White stuff skirt and top came ,and going back.. just didn't look right on me .. The V Fugly Ecco walking sandals also arrived and are great .
I am knackered I didn't sleep well for the last two nights.. V.v.v.v early to bed tonight..... My holiday is over and I have to to back to work tomorrow..Sad

Laska2Meryls · 29/04/2019 18:44

Huff the stripy dress looks fab on you , I wasn't too taken with it on the website, but you have just the right shape for it.. also like the Greek widow dress and the striped marina ( I have that from a couple of seasons ago, it looks great with a yellow top I think)

.

SoyYo · 29/04/2019 19:41

You made me smile @laska with your check purchases! I’m not specially into check shirts but do like your new purchase Smile

Nice to see you back @Ella! But yes all good times pass far too fast! It’ll be nice to hear your impressions of Rome once you’re fully recovered from the long trip back

@cherries I think if as @huff says your DD will be penalised with ridiculous insurance premiums for a paltry compensation amount it may be worth mulling it over whether it’s worth claiming. So totally unfair though!

Oh well I’ve done some Hush purchases enabled by @huff and the rest of you! Wink
I realised I had an unused 10% off a £40 order and £20 off £80 order on the recommend me thingy, so I duly placed two orders to scratch my Hush itch Grin

dontcallmelen · 29/04/2019 19:47

Huff the pics are lovely, maybe try sizing down in the dress & she what it looks like.
Cherries sounding more n more of a flipping nightmare, poor dd so awful for her.
Laska thanks for the tip with the budget planner, also really like the shirt.
Ella glad you had a brilliant time, boo though the flight delay.
Soups yes the Aldi chocolate is really good, much better than Cadbury.
I got a brochure from Boden today, they have some nice new stuff I really liked the wide leg linen trousers & they had some good linen tops & nice silk mix ones, also some good plain linen dresses & they have a stripey marina skirt dupe.
Hello everyone else & hope Gin & Not are ok.

twosoups1972 · 29/04/2019 19:52

@huff you look great, I love the stripe dress specially.

@ella welcome back, glad to hear you had a great time.

I'm tempted to buy something from the new collection but not sure what. I really like the coloured stripe Marina skirt, has anyone bought this? Might have a look in JL when I'm next there.

Have been busy planning dd1's 18th birthday next weekend! The arrangements are complicated as she's away at boarding school, doesn't want to travel a long distance on her actual birthday (Monday) and as dd2 is doing GCSEs, she doesn't want to be away overnight. So - plan is - dd1 comes home Friday evening, Saturday afternoon we're taking her for a posh afternoon tea, then Sunday morning dd1 and I drive up towards her school and stay in a hotel with a spa overnight then I'll drop her at school on Monday morning. She'll have the rest of the day celebrating with her friends.

SoyYo · 29/04/2019 20:13

@len you survived Ikea! Yeayy! I second the Aldi choc recommendation they’re lovely! I’ve had their candles and diffuser sticks before and so I’ll watch out for the scent you recommended. And yes I got a Boden catalogue in the post will have a look 👍

@soups oh what a lot to organise But it sounds like you’re on top of it. I’ve ordered the colourful multi stripe marina skirt if that’s what you mean...should arrive by Wed so will report back

Laska2Meryls · 29/04/2019 20:18

I do love a check shirt Soy Smile

dontcallmelen · 29/04/2019 20:36

Soups sounds a brilliant celebration enjoy.
Soy just about, I’m shattered went with dd & dgd, she was like a whirling dervish trying out all the ‘big girl beds’ hoping it might be an incentive for her to stay in her own bed at night, as apparently her bed is yucky & she wants a pink & purple quilt cover as well😂

Ellapaella · 29/04/2019 21:13

@SoyYo you've been busy ordering! Looking forward to seeing it all soon..

Rome was great. Such a lovely city, I was sad to leave but we are already planning our next trip back hopefully in September and this time we'll take the dc.
Shopping - not much by the way of clothes shops other than the big designer stores. Didn't really get much chance to look at the shops as we only went to that area very early on Sunday morning before everything was open.
A friendly, welcoming city. Very vibrant and 'alive'. Fascinating place as well. We were lucky to have friends living there as they took us to some fantastic restaurants off the main tourist track.
Clothes wise all was well but it was much chillier in the evening than I'd anticipated so I ended up having to wear DH's woolly jumper in the evenings when sitting out on the terrace or in bars as even my denim jacket was not warm enough. My friend offered me a jumper but it was MaxMara and I didn't want to risk spilling red wine or tomato pasta sauce on it so politely declined (very nice jumper though!).

For anyone interested my friend was telling me that Romans dress for the season and not for the weather. So the locals don't get their summer clothes out until mid May and think it's very odd for anyone to wear sandals, shorts or dresses in April even if it's warm. So many tourists around it didn't really matter though. White trainers are definitely massive in Europe right now - everyone was wearing them.

Ellapaella · 29/04/2019 21:14

@twosoups1972 good luck with your dd's celebrations! It's my eldest ds's birthday on BH Monday too but looks like he'll be spending it recovering from knee surgery 😢

dontcallmelen · 29/04/2019 21:25

Ella sounds a fabulous trip I haven’t been to Rome, it’s on my list though Dh youngest brother was posted to the Vatican for a while a couple of years ago (he is a priest) but unfortunately we couldn’t manage to co ordinate dates, I’m still sad about it.
Yy dressing for the season, I remember we were in costa del sol for the new year & the locals were in fur coats/hats etc & we were in shorts n T-shirts we definitely felt very much a tourist.
Aww poor Ds, hope it all goes well such a shame.

SoyYo · 29/04/2019 21:38

@len yes ikea is exhausting at the best of times never mind with a toddler on tow! 😅 what a shame you couldn’t go to the Vatican (which is magnificent btw) but yes it’s so worth a visit. Amazing

And @ella I was lucky like you to see Rome with locals, makes a huge difference...I’ve only been once and must return some time in the not too distant future. All the little hidden ancient squares. Sigh...so beautiful!
And taking DC sound fab! One of the reasons we haven’t returned is that DH knows Rome like the back of his hand. His DP’s were posted there and he tells me during one of his summer hols (he stayed with siblings behind at boarding school) his DF gave him a map of Rome. His daily task over 12 weeks was to cover a part of the city in exchange for some cash and report back on what he’d found. He was only 16 years old at the time and got to know the city very well! 🚶‍♂️Wink
And I did say it wasn’t going to be that hot (LOL!) I totally recognise the winter vs summer dressing but I also think us Latins suffer more with cold/even temperate weather...I was the butt of many a joke the way I used to wrap my DC for winter...and I used to think British mums were cruel for “underdressing” their kids in winter! Grin

dontcallmelen · 29/04/2019 21:51

Aww Soy I get the underdressing though, when mine were babies they used to have little knitted bonnets, matinee jackets, mittens & bootees as my DF was convinced they would succumb to exposure if they weren’t wrapped up😂
I will get to Rome one day.

SoyYo · 29/04/2019 21:52

For example as babies my DC always had those petite bateau long sleeved popper vests+ warm romper+ woollens on top + snow suit if we were out in a “covered” pram. My girlfriends used to think I was nuts! 😂 and my DM used to have someone knit lots of things and send them to me by post...I think I used to raise a lot of eyebrows and not always for the right reason as my kids used to sometimes look a bit old fashioned and overly wrapped up. Only when they were very little mind.
Once I realised neither was sick or catching pneumonia I relaxed a bit...but I must say in my defence I never had a snotty child often which used to be the case with some kids at playgroup being dragged out in the depths of winter with a t shirt/thin jumper and not much thicker coat...and they were always snotty!
Oh well don’t mind me I’m an extreme case and winter weather hater and it used to freak me out seeing small kids going to school with only short socks to cover their little legs in winter 😱

dontcallmelen · 29/04/2019 22:10

I’m a winter weather hater as well Soy my Dh says I have two personalities, summer & I’m lovely happy person, winter I’m a total nightmare & his sole job is to keep me & the house warm.

SoyYo · 29/04/2019 22:32

@len so glad I’m not alone!
DH knows I struggle a lot in winter too (made worse by the lack of sun/daylight) which is why a trip or two (however short) to Spain are always needed to help me get through it.
Anyway now we’ve got all the long spring and summer days to look forward to 😎

Laska2Meryls · 30/04/2019 06:09

Grin at you 'winter nightmares' !!! But yes re the unwrapped small kids, but also kids/teens refusing to wear coats (ours both did that).. However now they have their own, they are sticklers for wrapping their own darlings up !
I'm back to work today .. Think I'll wear my Keiras , it was v warm here yesterday .
Glad your had a fab time Ella I've not been to Rome either, Great that you had friends there to know the 'local' spots . It's one of the other options on list for DH 60th, ( though still erring towards Strasbourg).

Interesting about white trainers, I noticed several smart casual 'groomed' type women recently, wearing them esp with cropped jeans like the Moritz.

Laska2Meryls · 30/04/2019 06:12

Are the Hush Cupar trainers the right sort of thing?

MrsMcBoatface · 30/04/2019 06:23

Hello to all! I am totally lusting after the Hush Wren cargo jacket in blue but it seems to be sold out! Is this true? Or has it not yet been released, so to speak, as it seems to be from the current collection? Before I relent and order it in green I thought some of you wise and dedicated Hush fans might advise. I love Hush.. have the military jacket from last year in pink and khaki and wear both on a regular rotation so wanted to expand my choices for this summer. Thanks in advance for any jacket advice!

Laska2Meryls · 30/04/2019 06:26

I like those trainers and am quite willing to be a fashion sheep 🐑 (but how does one keep them white ?)
Is Never around? we've not heard from her for a few days..

Laska2Meryls · 30/04/2019 06:32

Hi MrsMcboatface, it's new collection, surprised it is oos already, I'd call them, they are usually v helpful . Khaki is nice though also
