What's everyone's opinion on 'glass skin'

RockyFlintstone · 06/02/2019 21:17

So it looks like matte everything (apart from ridiculous highlight!) is out and glossy is in. I have seen lots of talk about 'glass skin' and on Instagram Katie Jane Hughes (who is so beautiful) seems to be the go to for this?

What do people think? I think KJH does make it look fabulous, but it looks like it's really difficult to get right and that most people who attempt it will look like they have dipped their face in a vat of oil. I don't know, I like a bit of powder to set everything, but I also quite like the dewy look.

If you go in for it, do you have any tips or advice about products or getting it right?

it wouldn't be suitable for everyday in the accounts office! lovely weekend look although with the pearl metallic eye make up that KJH has but i think i'll just stick to my usual of a few drops of my pearl illuminating lotion in my foundation.

KJH is a stunning looking lady and i've never heard of her until now, she looks very creative but i wish she'd keep her lips closed!

Hah!
Reminds me of late teens and early to mid 20s, those nights when I would apply a generous layer of Germolene on my face - the old, very sticky, bright pink version of Germolene that came in a tin! - and follow it up with a layer of Vaseline!
My goodness, how trends come around again!

RavenLG · 06/02/2019 23:52

I look that shiny after a few hours of my oily skin kicking in. I’m more annoyed by her overdrawn lips tbh.

Isleepinahedgefund · 07/02/2019 06:24

I think this is one of those trends that can look great for an instagram photo (emphasis on CAN......) but in real life will look utterly ridiculous. Won't be subscribing myself! I like skin to look like skin. Not glass, not sandpaper, skin!

Biologifemini · 07/02/2019 06:33

The jaundiced orange double wear plus caterpillar brows had to go out of fashion at some point.
It really took off in the UK but not in the rest of Europe. It made beautiful women look really quite odd.
Glass poreless skin is quite tricky but it is better than the previous look.

MountPheasant · 07/02/2019 06:41

Had a look- I really think it looks awful! She looks crazy oily! I’ve seen some nice glass skin looks before but I don’t think it’s working for her.

My skin has been good lately, and so I’ve started skipping foundation and instead just using the bourjois rice powder which is a shimmery face powder. This leaves my face with a very subtle glow all over and I love it! Why don’t you try something like that?

SouthWestmom · 07/02/2019 06:47

I just had a look. I'm obviously old and no longer 'in touch' because all that gunk makes her look likes she's smeared her face in Vaseline and has conjunctivitis.

She's lovely looking.

Bigsighall · 07/02/2019 06:52

That looks like me after I’ve slapped on a loada night cream and Vaseline Grin

punishmepunisher · 07/02/2019 06:53

Gah, I must be getting old.

Why can't we just look like how we look naturally with a few dabs of makeup here and there to cover up the worst bits.

I don't know whether I'm coming of going with the mad muddy contouring, huge Ming the Merciless eyebrows, drawn on lips...and now a face like an 8hr shift on the chippy counter.

I like a nice mascara and some powder to de-shine my nose, but worlds gone mad.

Ollivander84 · 07/02/2019 06:53

I like it. But then I like glowing, healthy skin looks. My skin can be matte when I'm dead!

NakedAvenger · 07/02/2019 07:02

The fuck? I just googled and she looks like an extra in Contagion!

MrsScamander · 07/02/2019 07:07

As a very oily person, I can't imagine why anyone would want to look like that. Because it does just look like she has oily skin.

It will be a cold day in hell before I give up my super matte foundation 😁

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 07/02/2019 07:11

Looks
Like she’s just done a shift in a chip shop! Sorry...

Biologifemini · 07/02/2019 07:11

Agree about conjunctivitis.

All these warm red and orange eyeshadows look bloody awful, like the worst eye infection. I don’t know why they are so popular

silkpyjamasallday · 07/02/2019 07:16

I like the look of really dewy skin, I don't wear any makeup so having good skin is important to me and keeping it ultra moisturised does give my face a slight sheen and minimises pores. I can't say I think KJH looks great though, the skin on it's own without the red and orange eyeshadow would look more normal, I agree with PP who said her look has a touch of conjunctivitis about it.

LadyRochfordsIcedGusset · 07/02/2019 07:19

I foresee al lot of sheep buying overpriced products and looking ridic as a result

Have a similar look post -gym.

dudsville · 07/02/2019 07:21

Can someone post a pic please? I googled but only found big pages and youtube videos.

ShirleyPhallus · 07/02/2019 07:21

think this is one of those trends that can look great for an instagram photo (emphasis on CAN......) but in real life will look utterly ridiculous.

Like those overly upbrushed eyebrows?!

RockyFlintstone · 07/02/2019 07:30

Here you go dudsville

It's funny because I remember lip gloss everywhere (including eyelids) in the 90s and I remember thinking a couple of years ago when everything (especially lips) was flat matte how things change so much. And now it's coming full circle!

She is gorgeous though.

Not keen on that look at all. Even the professionally done faces look greasy.

thebadplace · 07/02/2019 08:03

I think this is one of those looks that is v easy to get wrong. Minimal glass looks good but just a bit too much looks greasy ! Also agree only for those with flawless skin in the first place i.e. Not me !

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 07/02/2019 08:18

I don't know why it's called glass skin because she doesn't look like she has glass skin, it just looks like an oil breakthrough after she's done her normal make up.

The eye make up doesn't go with the 'dewy' skin.

MeetOnTheledge · 07/02/2019 08:23

That is not a good look, it does look as though she's covered in vaseline, not in the least glowing or dewy.

il0vew1ne · 07/02/2019 08:24

it looks sweaty and oily urgh

WeCameToDance · 07/02/2019 08:48

Its making me feel all twitchy looking at it. I really dislike it. I love a bit of highlighter and a sheer foundation but that is quite a few steps too far.
