I don't even know if there was a 2018 one, but I'm nostalgic for the original threads. Grin

Wouldn't groomed be more the princessing threads?

Inliverpool1 · 24/01/2019 08:09

Groomed is different from expensive imo. I look groomed but not the stereotypical Kensington chick look, which I think is dull as ditchwater.

RHOF · 24/01/2019 09:32

I think it's all about minimalism. Fresh face - barely there makeup, sleek hair, good coat, and very little jewellery.

SouthWestmom · 24/01/2019 09:32

Yes but expensive means different things doesn't it?

Eg Moschino and Viv Westwood - loud, garish, expensive

RL muted, boring, expensive

Chanel , LV. Obvious, well known, expensive

Etc ,

SouthWestmom · 24/01/2019 09:34

And why do you want to look expensive if you aren't? I mean surely we just buy to our budget?

I wear a lot of Zara, Levi, Super Dry, All Saints because that's what I can afford and I like their stuff. I try to match and not look like a mess...

SouthWestmom · 24/01/2019 09:35

I think I mean - what are you trying to say about yourself by aiming for expensive?

Good taste?
Selective?
Minimalist?
Well off?
Etc

Love this thread already!!

Inspired by you lovelies - I dug my long camel coat out from the back of my wardrobe this morning and am somehow making it fit (I am 39 weeks pregnant!)...so currently walking around town feeling very expensive for the first time in a loooong time!! 😁💪

Badtasteflump · 24/01/2019 10:30

Baywatch I'm very jealous! I would love a long snuggly camel coat, I think they look divine. But camel just looks awful on me as I'm a 'Winter' (different thread, I know!) so it makes me look ill.

Oh god me too but how I've longed all my life go be able to wear it! What colour coat is good for you?

Badtasteflump · 24/01/2019 11:06

I have a black wool coat but I think it just looks dull. Navy suits me so I have been on the lookout for a navy one to no avail (so far). Taupe grey is supposed to be a good substitute for camel for Winters but I've never found a coat in that shade that doesn't wash me out.

Inliverpool1 · 24/01/2019 11:16

Use a scarf to add a colour that works for you

Badtasteflump · 24/01/2019 13:37

Liverpool unfortunately that doesn't work for me - I think because a long coat is such a huge amount of colour, a scarf doesn't detract from the fact that my skin has turned green!

Btw I'm olived skinned - and the wrong colours really make me look like the wicked witch of the west Hmm

TheExtraGuineaPig · 24/01/2019 13:46

I'd like to join in! I have a couple of nice coats but it's so cold and I work from home/ do the school run so end up in my ancient north face parka at the moment. Can't seem to sacrifice that warmth/ securely zipped up feeling!

And I'm the same re camel - olive skinned and sallow in the winter. I think a nice jewel colour or navy scarf helps. Navy would be a good choice for an expensive (or expensive looking) proper coat

LuxuryWoman2018 · 24/01/2019 14:34

I loved the last few threads so I’m in, although the last couple saw me spend a lot of money.

I have plenty of clothes for these colder months, but I sent most of my costume jewellery to the charity shops and I’m left with just a couple of statement pieces and my few bits of fine jewellery, looking for more statements.

I’m trying to go for a rich, mature rock chick look, slightly bohemian I guess with velvets, brocade, silk. I played safe for a long time in a bad relationship where I lost confidence but I’m ready to be the real me again. I’m tempted by the Coach Parker bag it’s still a fair bit of money but gives an idea of what I like.

I’m about to have some expensive treatments now I’ve entered a new decade including cosmetic dentistry, I’m excited and terrified in equal measure.

I’m looking for good fabrics in flattering fits, nice accessories I’ll love forever, decent loungewear in sensuous fabrics that are practical enough to bung in the washing machine.
Thoughts are turning to the warmer months as I find it much harder to look together in the summer.

I also need me a lover 😂

badtaste

Re:coats - also worth trying grey (dark to avoid stains) dark brown, dark green, tweedy “false plain” material.

Badtasteflump · 27/01/2019 17:39

I’ve bought a coat Smile

Tried a few long coats on on the sales yesterday, navy and grey, and they all looked a bit meh. I was looking for classic styles but I’ve found that on me, there’s a fine line between ‘classic’ and ‘old-fashioned & ageing’.

So anyway I tried this on and loved it, perfect fit, lovely colour on me, and made me look 10 x smarter instantly! I hadn’t thought of burgundy/wine as a good neutral colour for a coat but as I’m a ‘deep winter’ I’ve found most of my clothes will go with it anyway.

Don’t know if it makes me ‘expensive looking’ but I’m really pleased with it Smile

Inliverpool1 · 27/01/2019 17:53

Blimey that’s a blantent ted baker copy, lovely colour ... I have a shirt one I wear a camel handbags with which looks great

Inliverpool1 · 27/01/2019 17:53

Short not shirt

Badtasteflump · 27/01/2019 18:01

Ooh I had no idea about the Ted Baker one but I’ve just googled and you’re spot on! Just another plus on the ‘expensive looking’ side of things I suppose? Grin

And I hadn’t thought of wearing camel tones with it - I have a light tan tote which I have just discovered looks lovely with it so thanks for the tip!

legolammb · 27/01/2019 18:31

I love having a lurk on these, but don't think it's doable for me. I'm size 18 bottom, and an extreme pair shape which doesn't lend itself well to the concept I don't think.

dialecticalmaterialism · 27/01/2019 20:11

I got a dressing gown coat!

dialecticalmaterialism · 27/01/2019 20:14

It’s this one. But I don’t look like that. Sadly.

Love these threads. Perhaps those that don't enjoy them could just not read them.

Exactly! Actually I think this should be a sticky at the top of all threads. I was on a thread about disguising eye bags recently and somebody came on to stamp their feet and complain that people are too concerned about appearances and wtf were we worrying about it for...

Made me wonder if they clicked through every single S&B thread to say the same thing... and countless other threads.

Love that Oasis number, bad flump, its lovely
