Anything worth buying in M&S?

I have a £100 gift voucher to spend! Is there anything worth buying right now? I need smart/casual “bottoms” of some description ideally. 5ft 8 and size 16. I hate shopping so any recommendations very appreciated!

Sorry, once every few weeks the email is delivered!

GriseldaChop · 26/09/2018 19:20

Pleased it’s not just me who finds all their tops short at the minute. Just want a few basics for work but everything seems to sit in the waist and not hide my big tum!

Their bath towels are lovely. Or food.

Ivygarden · 26/09/2018 19:24

I swear by their Absolute sleep and day creams. I would only ever use Estée Lauder but I’ve made the swap with no looking back...
I also love their slim and trim (or something to that effect) leggings. They are not the cheap see-through ones we see only too often...

JaneEB · 26/09/2018 19:25

They have some lovely food in there, plenty of very nice looking chocolates and biscuits that would make for a great Christmas :)

keffie12 · 26/09/2018 20:00

The only things I ever buy ftom M & S are my fitted bras and maybe some bits from the food store. I am not an M & S fan.

Talia99 · 26/09/2018 20:29

They don’t even seem to be doing the basics well these days. I had a family member visiting from overseas who wanted some packs of basic M&S cotton knickers. She couldn’t get any - apparently in a lot of styles you can now only get ‘cotton rich’ i.e. not pure cotton.

The jeggings are amazing value, love their ankle boots and lambs wool jumpers from the men's range. Another vote for their beauty section too.

kezibear · 26/09/2018 20:42

I boot some lovely boots in there yesterday £50!

Misskittykat · 26/09/2018 20:49

The new Holly Willoughby collection looks good, that leopard print dress is on my list! They also have some lovely DM like boots

Redkat · 26/09/2018 21:24

I bought a bottle of their new mince pie cream liqueur for Xmas.
It was yummm

Xmas starts today right?Grin

Purplealienpuke · 26/09/2018 21:29

I bought this coat this week. It's beautiful on. Comes in red, purple and black. I've also ordered new boots today from m&s. I can't comment on trousers I'm afraid...

Anything worth buying in M&S?

I know they do a Christmas dinner catalogue, could you get your Christmas dinner from there so it’s hassle free? X

Tattygran14 · 26/09/2018 21:57

MsN. has gone to the dogs. The shoes all seem to be wide fit, the tops are too short, and have been for ages, except for fitted t shirts, in which I look like a bursting sausage. The bras are poor quality, and weird colours. In fact, most of their stuff is weird colours.

Tattygran14 · 26/09/2018 22:05

They have gone to the dogs. The quality of the clothing is market standard, at double and triple the price. Their colours are cheap and weird, especially the poor quality bras. I haven't tried their skincare. The food pack sizes seem to be getting even smaller, and the offers and pricing are irritating. What happened to shops stopping multi-buys? Just reduce the price.

Tattygran14 · 26/09/2018 22:06

Sorry, somehow double post. You get my moany gist.

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 26/09/2018 22:31

As my local M&S recently closed down I wouldn't know any more Sad

MikeUniformMike · 26/09/2018 22:35

Nice new underwear. Tights. Socks. Cake.
Their cosmetics are pretty good esp the advent calendar.
Christmas shopping.
Some of their clothes are great. They usually have a good selection of shoes, coats etc.
Go to a big store and treat yourself. If they have something you love, but it's not in your size, get them to ask if the nearest stores have it in stock.
Lucky you.

Great things: HeatTech thermals, big knickers, stretchy mini/knee length skirts, cheese, beers and ciders, cosmetics section,

Ok/quite good things: leggings, women's linen shirts (plain), menswear (trousers, cotton jumpers, coats, shoes). Girls clothing sometimes has some nice bits.

Could be better: women's plain t-shirts - need better selection of good quality, proper elbow length, non frumpy options.

Awful things: most 'fashion' items - weird shapes and colours, iffy quality.

V IRRITATING thing: multibuy offers in food - '3 for £7 deli', 'takeaway 3 for a tenner' type things. VERY confusingly labelled - big signs on front of section saying eg 3 for £7, then they randomly put things on that section which aren't included in the offer so you have to be very on the ball not to get fleeced. Have been caught out a few times on this, they must make a packet as many people either won't notice or won't notice till they get home and it's not worth trekking back to complain.

Nude knickers and nude non wired bra that’s comfy. Silk knickers & camisole in sales. This Works Sleep Spray and Roger & Gallet Gingembre Perfume. Meal deals with wine and the pasta meals - 3 for £7.00. The advent beauty calendar and the summer one are brilliant. Leopard print leggings and Boots are very good this year.

bloopitybloop · 27/09/2018 10:18

I bought a lovely satin blouse from them that is my new favourite - fit beautifully

Their cord leggings this season are very good

TheHoundsofLove · 27/09/2018 12:10

bloopity Which satin shirt do you have? I've ordered the Autograph one and have high hopes for it...

GraceMarks · 27/09/2018 14:05

Basically anything that won't generally be seen or noticed, like underwear and tights. Even their basic t shirts and jumpers are made of nasty polyester and come in weird colours with pointless embellishments.

They also tend to take whatever the "fashionable" length is for skirts and then only make that type across their entire range. There was a time not long ago when the only kind of workwear dress you could get in M&S was short, tight Mouret rip-offs. Given that their target market is middle-aged women who don't always want to be showing their knees and thighs at work, I couldn't understand why they went so mad for the bodycon.

Don't even get me started on trying to find swimwear that doesn't have a plunge neckline...

CornishYarg · 27/09/2018 15:01

Gym gear (although I haven't bought any for a while so it may have gone downhill!)
