Anything worth buying in M&S?

I have a £100 gift voucher to spend! Is there anything worth buying right now? I need smart/casual “bottoms” of some description ideally. 5ft 8 and size 16. I hate shopping so any recommendations very appreciated!

I love that Autograph coat but what is it with the miserable models nowadays.

ppeatfruit · 25/09/2018 09:00

Sorry Ivy Yes there were lot of "bottoms", every style and size you could possible want!

waterlego6064 · 25/09/2018 09:07

Skin stuff, definitely. Nuxe oil as mentioned upthread, and anything from the REN range- I've always wanted to try their Moroccan rose oil but can't justify the cost!

My mum has some of the new jeggings and is really pleased with them. I like the pyjamas and gym pants. It's a shame that M+S don't listen to the public amd improve the quality of their designs.

adoggymama · 25/09/2018 09:11

I'd go for undies and I've seen a few skirts/coats I like in there. If in doubt I'd spend it all in the food hall lol

SossidgeRoll · 25/09/2018 09:23

I think the boots in autograph are ace - particularly the chelsea boots. Also, as mentioned already, the skincare rage in M&S is really VERY good!

I am a great fan of Fragonarde which they stock. It is worth a root around in their perfume section and make-up. They seem to have a lot of hair stuff now - not sure what it is like yet.

They seem to be stocking big names that are not ubiquitous.

(Hey look! I have my paragraphs back Grin )

MotherWol · 25/09/2018 10:36

They've got loads of nice non-padded bralet/crop-top style bras at the moment; their merino jumpers are good value and go with everything. YY to beauty, and also worth having a look in the larger stores at their spirits selection - they do a really nice golden rum from Guyana, and they've usually got some smaller brand gins as well.

weaving5688 · 25/09/2018 10:48

they still do nice underwear, and the children's school uniform, tights, vests etc are good. I wish their food business would do online shopping...

Deliphant · 25/09/2018 11:36

Mawkish, I think that jumper would look nice if the wool/material was more of a fine knit (it looks scratchy) and if instead of 3 colours they stuck to the top 2.

The one with the bobbles on is probably beyond hope.

penguinseatfish · 25/09/2018 13:19

Can someone link to the Jeggings mentioned please?

SmallAndFarAway · 25/09/2018 13:22

Wait until November and get the beauty calendar!

Ivytheterrible · 25/09/2018 16:22

Thanks everyone!

I tried on 17 items of clothing that I thought would suit me. It all looked terrible! Why are all the tops so short??? I’m 39 and have had 3 kids - no-one wants to see my tummy!?! I’m on the tall side at 5’ 8 but not massively so.

I settled on 2 pairs of shoes for me in the sale. They fitted beautifully and were super comfy. Then bought a few bits like wellies for the kids and spent the rest on booze and naice biscuits!

Yes. I forgot Sossidge I bought some chelsea boots there in the bad snowy winter 3 years ago?? They still look good, and still are , comfortable, stylish and properly waterproof. You can't say that about most of their footwear it's just luck I suppose.

Bouledeneige · 26/09/2018 09:44

I've just checked out the website and like some of the autograph range - mostly in terms of work clothes, satin long sleeve tops, wide leg and tapered trousers, coats and some lovely handbags. I'd also go with the cashmere too - but you need a few vouchers.

Then staples of bras, knickers and tights.

ppeatfruit · 26/09/2018 09:53

Boule You need to order things you like quickly (I've found that they run out of 'common' sizes fast).

The same in the shops. I don't get why they don't order more of the popular sizes!

user1457017537 · 26/09/2018 09:55

Ppeatfruit this infuriates me as well. Surely it cannot be hard to control stock and reorder popular items in sizes that will actually sell.

ppeatfruit · 26/09/2018 10:01

user145 You would think so wouldn't you? They've been at it for longer than most of us have been alive fgs!!!!

Montybabe · 26/09/2018 17:47

Their thin thermals are great. The long sleeve tops are good as bade layers.

Whatnextfred · 26/09/2018 17:49

I got a fab new fluffy dressing gown today

Nousernamefound · 26/09/2018 17:52

Some really nice online bits, styling is bad so use your imagination with some bits. Holly Willoughby also styling a range.

JesusIsComingLookBusy · 26/09/2018 18:05

I really like their mugs in aqua, slate grey and pink - they feel really solid, are a good size and look like they cost a lot more but are a real steal at only £1 each!

RubyFlint · 26/09/2018 18:13

Yummy egg,, tomato and salad cream sarnies.

And some pillows.

Katherine2626 · 26/09/2018 18:17

There is always the food hall - you can spend a fortune in there quite easily, and although they are expensive i do think it is the best food around and there is no waste. Then, having fed the family with your vouchers, you have the entire internet and high street to choose clothes from.

Clixsy · 26/09/2018 18:51

You could sign up to Try Tuesday. It's an email that gets sent once a week that highlights M&S clothes based on the profile you've given them and fashion looks. Have bought a few things that have been on the email plus it's given me ideas on how to use clothes I already have.
