Is this ok for Black Tie?

Have an event coming up in December which is black tie , followed by a wedding in the same month. I have seen this dress online and quite like it, thinking to pair with midnight blue heels perhaps.
Thoughts?

I'm a size 8 and a B cup on a good day, and around 5"6. Thanks!

It has to have long sleeves @Bluntness100 plus, the wedding is in an unbeaten marquee so I'm looking for maximum heat retention

I’ve just bought this for a black tie event - It looks AMAZING on - better than the pics. A great length too on me (5’4)

What about this from Reiss . The back is lovely. www.reiss.com/p/cross-back-cocktail-dress-womens-karina-in-raspberry-pink/?category_id=10312&gaEeList=W%20-%20Dresses%20-%20Party.

That dress looks lovely. have been to umpteen black tie dos including balls over the years. I have only worn full length twice as (being 5ft tall) they tend to swamp me. I have never felt under dressed and often get complimented. AlthoughTBH I would rather be slightly underdressed than overdressed. That can look a bit sad.

OlennasWimple · 24/09/2018 17:27

Ah, see, I would rather be overdressed than underdressed Smile

Loonoon · 24/09/2018 17:42

I’m sure you are always appropriately attired for every event Olenna. And the wimple means you never need to worry about a bad hair day.

DialsMavis · 24/09/2018 17:49

Can I jump in and ask advice from all you black tie event goers? How smart/dressy is a black tie wedding? I'm going to one soon and after reading replies here I am now worried my outfit won't be 'black tie' enough for the occasion.

OlennasWimple · 24/09/2018 17:52

Grin Loonoon Indeed! Dials What time of day is the wedding and where is the venue (in general terms - stately home, castle, marquee....)?

HMC2000 · 24/09/2018 18:05

As previous posters have said, black tie means women can wear either cocktail or full length, and white tie is full length only. I actually like the dress, and think it's fine. It's down to how you style it really: for the black tie do it would be great with an updo and some impressive earrings. You'd need a jacket for the wedding, though, and that might be a whole other search.

CherryPavlova · 24/09/2018 18:09

It’s very pretty and entirely suitable for a work black tie event.

DialsMavis · 24/09/2018 18:10

Hi Olennas it's 2pm wedding at a country estate: possibly in a barn or main house. I was going to wear a knee length black Reiss dress

OlennasWimple · 24/09/2018 18:19

OK, so anyone having a black tie event at 2pm doesn't understand the rules anyway, so you can wear what you want Wink

DialsMavis · 24/09/2018 18:27

😂 Mums cast off frock and the only smart shoes I can walk in it is

Palmer1983 · 24/09/2018 18:29

This ones nice affordable and in a few colours says summer but maybe could put something over your shoulders to keep the chill out?

ThePricklySheep · 24/09/2018 19:56

She’s said more than once it needs to have sleeves. Smile

RainbowsArePretty · 24/09/2018 20:39

OP I don't like the original dress but love the long red one! If it's an Autumn/Winter wedding I think you can use it fit the wedding too

Let us know what you decide

Oh yeah Grin sorry lol

WhatchaMaCalllit · 24/09/2018 21:41

The Ralph Lauren one (the full length red one) is just stunning and perfect for a black tie event and a wedding OP. Good choice!!

Joe66 · 24/09/2018 21:45

I don't think it's quite right. I think it might be the hemline or the colour, which is pretty, but maybe a bit wrong for a winter occasion. I have something similar to this below, when I'm not sure. www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2695906_c270/fwm-lace-shift-dress-navy-navy

prettymuchaceleb · 24/09/2018 22:15

I've got over £600 of dresses in my basket now so will try them all on and report back.

Just wondering if the dresses have arrived yet and how you've gotten on.
Hopefully you've managed to find the perfect dress for you.

calamariandporridge · 01/10/2018 21:41

I ended up with this one in the end , MIL approves!
