Leopard print - can it ever look classy?

I’ve been watching some LFW shows via vloggers and have noticed a fair bit of animal print - especially leopard print. I’m not a fan of animal print per se, it reminds me so much of Kat Slater but, on the runway there were some decent pieces which actually looked great, classy even.

What are people’s thoughts on leopard print? I was quite fancying these but would like brutal opinions?

Thanks

Love those ballet pumps !

Thanks ladies, have been pouring through your comments and you’re right it’s not a classy look but can look good in a ‘rock chick’ Kate Moss kinda way. I’m not sure I can pull that off but I may give it a go once I’ve lost the baby weight.

I love leopard print and have lots but just don't wear more than one piece at a time. Not style and beauty but just couldn't resist....

Didsome, if you want to wear leopard print wear it. Shoes or a bag are the easy entrypoint and don't depend on you being a certain size. But if you want to get a skirt or blouse or coat or jumper go for it, if they make you smile when you wear them that's good enough.

Judydreamsofhorses · 17/09/2018 19:56

I love leopard print. I don’t know about classy, but I think it suits my overall look, and I frequently get stopped and asked where things are from or told how nice I look. If it’s trashy, it’s cool trashy!

I think it completely depends how you wear it. For example, I wear my faux fur coat with jeans and trainers, but with a pencil skirt and heels it would look totally different. I have a pleated midi skirt which I wear with a Breton striped top, again, with trainers, and a shirt I wear with black skinny jeans and Chelsea boots. I also think there is a world of difference between a Primark leopard top and one from somewhere more expensive in terms of looking tacky. Most of my things I’ve had for years, and I will probably wear them a bit less this year since it’s so prominent.

@Martin - that’s made me snicker!

@count - thank you, upon reading your post I ordered she shoes, to hell with it I thought.

To me leopard print is a neutral, it goes with everything.

Branleuse · 17/09/2018 20:06

I fucking love animal print. I dont know if its trashy or classy but it depends on the wearer and how its worn i guess

bitofabelly · 18/09/2018 06:07

Can I just say this dress is utterly flattering, comfy and looks fab on

www.lyst.co.uk/clothing/warehouse-leopard-high-neck-flippy-dress/

It's in the colour tone I love

Branleuse · 18/09/2018 07:12

That is gorgeous but would need the neck lowering

CutesyUserName · 18/09/2018 07:25

I get lots of positive comments on my leopard print Vans. Not keen on LP knitwear, but one item of clothing or accessories in LP, if it doesn't look cheap and is worn with other stuff, can look good.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/09/2018 07:34

New look have leopard ballet flats for £12.99,
I used to have some years ago and they were lovely with jeans, (but I was younger then and looked more lovely in everything)

My friend has some joules, pony skin (eg hairy) orangey leopard print ankle boots and they are probably had most hideous beasts I’ve ever seen. They cost her well over £100.

I suppose like everything, it depends on the wearer. I have an olive green coat this autumn and quite fancied a leopard scarf but have decided to go mustard yellow instead.

MoltonSilver · 18/09/2018 08:09

I like a little leopard print but I keep it to accessories.

The height of the Steve Madden shoes puts them into Kath Slater territory. The print would look better if the heels were lower.

MsHomeSlice · 18/09/2018 08:23

i think coats, shoes, scarves, bags....alkfine, I keep it as an "extra" but for clothes I don't think I can carry it off.

I did get a lot of compliments in M&S yesterday trying on their Leopard coat but it's not that nice IRL
it's flimsy, quite skimpy, and the texture feels like a cheap furry toy that you know is going to mat and go bobbly.
AND it's £79 Hmm ...for £39 I'd have snapped it up!

MsHomeSlice · 18/09/2018 08:24

its not at all the same quality as the one they had last year...that was heavy, plush and classic.

it was just not really leopard imo

UterusUterusGhali · 18/09/2018 09:27

I still wear my Mumsnet scarf!

I'd wear more leopard but as a size 18 I do look a bit Fat Slags in it. I'd love some leopard trousers. If I ever lose weight I'll go for it.

I'd say avoid wearing red with it.

Changedforpost · 18/09/2018 09:31

Leather slim fit pants, band style tee tucked in. Ankle boots, leopard print fur coat. Black beanie, choker necklace is how I style it. Kinda quirky bandy rock and roll kind of chic. But that's the look I can pull off best of all.

linkylink · 18/09/2018 09:54

La Moss always look great in leopard.

No. No. No. Leopard print is trashy. It looks common.

malificent7 · 21/06/2019 13:26

I love my leopard print jumpsuit...i think it's an awesome print!

moonpiggle · 21/06/2019 13:33

Love leopard print although imo it depends on the material and what the item of clothing is..for example a leopard print pair of leggings - no no just no! A leopard print jacket or boots, silk camisole or quality trousers yes! I really think the material of the item can let it down.

Fatkins · 21/06/2019 14:11

I agree with lots of the previous comments. It looks good when it's 'done right'. Awful otherwise.

The pp who said* the leopard print fur coat can look quite cool and rock chick with jeans and trainers would look rank completely different with a black pencil skirt and stiletto heels has nailed it.

  • Excuse the blatant paraphrasing!
Fatkins · 21/06/2019 14:11

*which can look quite cool

Auldspinster · 21/06/2019 17:08

I still wear my mumsnet scarf too.

managedmis · 21/06/2019 17:49

I saw a lady a few days ago who I would say was in her late 30's in a leopard print dress that was styled somewhere between a maxi dress and a shirt dress. It was long sleeved and pulled in at the waist and below the knee in a very silky floaty type material (from the side it looked like it had a high(ish) split so showed a lot of leg. She was literally stopping traffic and close to causing a pile up in front of her, lol (she was quite attractive and had a really nice figure), but it was the dress that really caught your eye in the first place). She really pulled it off too and it looked very classy and sexy.
