Leopard print - can it ever look classy?

I’ve been watching some LFW shows via vloggers and have noticed a fair bit of animal print - especially leopard print. I’m not a fan of animal print per se, it reminds me so much of Kat Slater but, on the runway there were some decent pieces which actually looked great, classy even.

What are people’s thoughts on leopard print? I was quite fancying these but would like brutal opinions?

Thanks

I hate animal print. Couldn’t pay me to touch the stuff. It’s trashy AF.

DavetheCat2001 · 17/09/2018 07:04

I line LP when it is worn in a slightly 'rock and roll' way.

Probably thinking Kate Moss/Alexa Cheung style.

MiniTheMinx · 17/09/2018 07:06

I have a pair of Dune ballet pumps, but that's it. I once had a pair of slim fitting velvet trousers in a dark grey leopard print from jigsaw. They were lovely. I'm not a huge fan, it's easy to get it wrong. If in doubt don't!

Chimchar · 17/09/2018 07:13

I love it.

I have lp trainers, jeans, cardigans, headscarf, dress, scarves.

I only ever wear one item at a time. I don't think I look trashy...

My teenagers mostly think it's ok, but are really not keen on my lp jeans.

In all honestly though, I dress for myself, and if I like it, I wear it!

Oblomov18 · 17/09/2018 07:39

No, it's always tacky, aka kat slater. Sorry.

QuantumPixies · 17/09/2018 07:41

It’s tacky.

I have been inspired and dug out my old leopard ballet flats to wear on the school run this morning Grin

Leopard print - can it ever look classy?
pickingdaisies · 17/09/2018 08:08

Nah, hard to make it look classy. But I don't often want to look classy Grin

linkylink · 17/09/2018 09:57

animal prints are neutrals in my eyes. I’m excited there is so much zebra about.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 17/09/2018 09:59

No but not everyone suits or like classy.

SmallestInTheClass · 17/09/2018 10:02

Classy - never. But some ladies look trendy or cool in it. It's pretty much impossible to try to look expensive without being tacky.

slippyshoesshuffle · 17/09/2018 10:05

The leopard look is great - on a leopard.

5SecondsFromWilding · 17/09/2018 10:08

I'm another who thinks all animal print is trashy I'm afraid. That's not to say some people can't suit it or wear items of it that look good on them. It's just not something I think anyone should wear if they're going for a classy look.

WindyWednesday · 17/09/2018 10:10

How quickly people forget the MN scarf.

3stonedown · 17/09/2018 10:11

A muted tone pair of pointed leopard print flats can look lovely.

I've seen a few leopard print dresses at weddings recently which I'm not keen on

SymbollocksInteractionism · 17/09/2018 11:23

I love leopard print and wear it often. I just got these DM's and love them!

I like it and have a lot of it. I don't think I look trashy but I will admit I don't particularly go for a classy or expensive look. My current leopard favourites (not to be worn together obvs) are a midi skirt from Zara in a really streamlined lovely shape, loafers from Clarks, and a short shirt dress.
I think describing it as always trashy/Kat Slater shows a certain lack of imagination as it can be styled in so many different ways.

Bluelady · 17/09/2018 12:07

I love it but only one piece at a time. I'm 65 and my leopard print coat, worn only with black, has drawn a lot of compliments. I wear it with bright red lipstick too because I'm old enough not to give a toss what other people think.

LouiseCollins28 · 17/09/2018 12:15

@Didsomeonesaybunny

i think a little bit of leopard/animal print can look great, too much isn't a good look IMO.

FWIW I am liking the leopard print heels and if you wore them with say, a simple top and simple black trousers or a dress in a solid color i think they'd look great :-)

The "Kat Slater" of her EEnders look with leopard print was trashy for other reasons i think. She wore far too much of it, usually in very short/tight outfits also had far too much slap on IMO.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 17/09/2018 12:21

love a bit of animal print.
I got these shoes last year and have never had so many compliments about one item.

sexnotgender · 17/09/2018 12:23

It can, I have a beautiful Alexander McQueen leopard scarf.

Less is more!

CountFosco · 17/09/2018 12:39

The Queen wasn't wearing leopard print in that photo, she was wearing leopard.

I think most people love it, I always get compliments on my leopard print loafers and trainers. I think it can look fantastic but I'm not sure 'classy' is the correct adjective. Its appeal is the dirtiness of it, it's a bit rock'n'roll, a bit sexy, a bit look at me. It's very like the colour red, it's not shy and retiring and sends out all kinds of messages that e.g. green stripes don't. That's why some people hate it and some people love it.

Gardai · 17/09/2018 14:25

Oh thank you @CarolineForbes.
I used to get them in a really cheap shoe shop but no longer stocks them...will have a look in new look as our big Primark just burnt down 🙁

SpoonBlender · 17/09/2018 14:31

Some things are great in leopard print - but never classy, no.

OutComeTheWolves · 17/09/2018 15:47

I love leopard print. It's definitely a neutral in my opinion.

I think the important thing to consider however is the look you're aiming for. I've never been accused of being classy. I aim for a sort of rock chic vibe (like a fat knackered looking Kate moss) and the leopard print definitely helps with that look.
