Would you consider a classic red polish suitable for work?

Just asking out of curiosity.

I am returning to work soon and got my nails done yesterday. Asked for a matte red rather than glitter as returning to work.

My usually tactful and lovely manicurist exclaimed "how is that suitable for work?! I thought you were going to ask for a barely there pink!"

Thoughts?

Thanks! It’s called Bleu Trompeur - the photo is awful but it’s a lovely navy. I tend to do mine every two/three days so they don’t look scruffy, and sometimes I just add an extra coat of colour, then topcoat, to freshen up rather than start from scratch.

I know it’s off topic, but I absolutely swear by the Orly rubber bonder base coat, and Essie Good to Go topcoat.

@GorgonLondon I am not customer facing so that could make a difference but no one raises an eyebrow. The only comments I have ate compliments and most of our team have glitter or bright polishes during the summer. I am not unusual in our office.

Brokenfurnitureandroses · 25/08/2018 22:16

I got autumnal nails today.

@DextroDependant yes, I think not dealing directly with customers makes a huge difference. In an office I don't really see why it would matter to anyone.

Red is a classic. Deep darker reds look especially good in short nails. It's a polished chic look.

I like a deep black cherry/burgundy type of red for A/W like this first pic

(Unsure of polish names as they're just pinched from Pinterest.)

These are what I would consider too long to be a chic type nail in a conservative work environment,

I agree with Enid!

Fairylea · 26/08/2018 08:55

Enid is 100% spot on and exactly what I was thinking.

Paradyning · 26/08/2018 09:22

I agree with Enid too! Here's my nails. My ring finger is perfect for me, my index finger is too long! Ring finger of left hand side.

Long nails are fine too, for office work.

MillieMoodle · 26/08/2018 09:53

@Brokenfurnitureandroses love your nails, very autumnal! I have got a lovely mulberry type colour but need more autumnal nail coloursGrin

Red polish would be fine where I work (lawyer). We have a very relaxed dress code (jeans and trainers are fine). I tend not to wear bright red because of the little crayon marks they leave all over paperwork, as a PP mentioned. My nails are currently purple. I tend to keep them short-ish as its easier with small children. Some of the people I work with have nail art etc and no-one minds at all.

FannyAdmin · 26/08/2018 10:33

I feel funny when I look at photographs of people's nails, particularly when the person is doing the ^nail selfie clutch'. I had to stop looking at Mrs Gloss on FB because of it.

I like to keep my nails short and neat, and to use clear nail polish.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 26/08/2018 11:09

Fanny what clear polish do you use? I like that look but any I've tried chips like a bugger within a day or so.

DameDoom · 26/08/2018 14:46

Judydreamsofhorses your nails look very chic - that shade is a fabulous alternative to Rouge Noir. I must pick up some next week.

I love short, groomed nails in deep, autumnal shades. I have the crone hands of Baba Yaga and find doing my nails improves their look immensely.

DameDoom · 26/08/2018 14:49

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual have you tried Dior Nail Glow? You only need one coat and it lasts for a week. It has optical brighteners and really doesn't peel or chip. It's a repeat purchase for me.

mononoaware1907 · 26/08/2018 17:17

Long nails gross me out. I also work in a fairly strict industry (banking-back office though), but I have plenty of colleagues who wear nailart/crazy colours/ have v long nails.

Red is a classic. I also wear burgundy, black, dark blue, barely there pink. Always short and groomed. I do them once at 2 weeks

greenlavender · 26/08/2018 18:04

Red is always suitable, it's classic. Chipped nails are bad in any colour.

PasteSandwiches · 26/08/2018 18:30

Ooh @mononoaware1907 loving yours, particularly the silvery hologram colour!! Make and shade if you would oblige me 😀

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 26/08/2018 19:20

Thank you damedoom, I haven't, so I'll try it!

mononoaware1907 · 26/08/2018 19:27

@PasteSandwiches thank you v much! I have no clue, I know she uses cnd, no clue about the shade, and the holographic one is OPI! Sorry!Sad

PasteSandwiches · 26/08/2018 20:07

Darn it! I'm currently modelling very very short nails after a heavy gardening/car maintenance Saturday. I've got my Perfect Formula on (And will do for the next month). Once I have a touch of length I intend to paint them and make them all pretty. I'm currently perving over a nails inc set on QVC but that silver hologrammy varnish is gorgeous. I will search online.

FannyAdmin · 27/08/2018 12:13

ItsNice,I just use Rimmel's clear 60 seconds super shine. I do 2x coats, and it doesn't really seem to chip. I think clear has the advantage of not being obvious if it chips anyway.

I also have Rimmel's urban purple (actually a bright dark pink) pro for my toes, it also lasts really well.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 27/08/2018 21:53

Para your nails are lovely.

My usual length is like the mulberry nails in Enid's pic but yes, alas gardening transpired! I need to strengthen mine up.... any recs?

Who makes Perfect Formula?
