Honestly, am I too old for this?

www.riverisland.com/p/brown-leopard-print-plisse-belted-playsuit-721759

Spotted this in my local RI, but will have to order online as couldn't get my size in store (hence no photo of me actually wearing it) BUT, am I told old at 38 for a leopard print playsuit? Am I venturing into mutton territory?

I'm 5' 3" and a size 6-8. Small boobs and my legs are my best feature.

I'd wear it casually with black tights and black ankle chunky heel boots, or if I was wearing it as a 'going out' outfit, with black heels and tanned legs.

Wear what the fuck you want, but you are obviously dubious about it hence asking MNetters. I've got a similar shaped one but mine is Ditsy florals. Looks great in the summer but a bugger to go to the toilet in!

goose1964 · 16/06/2018 12:18

yes you're over 10

HildaZelda · 16/06/2018 13:26

Ordered. Though going by the opinions of some, perhaps I should have gone for a nice twin set and some comfy Hotter sandals instead!

Hilda fashion is what makes you feel good, I never worry if I'm too old for something, I always worry it's too old for me and constantly hope I'm not turning into my mother!!!!! It's always better to be bold with your fashions rather then be a wall flower!

Fairylea · 16/06/2018 16:07

It’s not my thing personally but I am the same age as you and my age never enters into my fashion choices! 38 is still pretty young to be honest. I know she’s not everyone’s taste but Caroline Flack is 38 and I bet she never thinks she’s too old to wear a short play suit....!

MassDebate · 16/06/2018 17:29

Well done HildaZelda, will you show us a pic when it arrives? Fwiw I’m the same age, height and size as you and would wear it - only with flats though (black strappy sandals probably). I think it’d stray into mutton territory with heels

halfwitpicker · 16/06/2018 19:16

Pretty divided then.

I love it personally.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/06/2018 19:44

I don't mind it. I don't think you are too old. I like animal print. I think with tights and boots it could look good. You are slim, still young. I think you could look good in it! Minimal accessories though. Maybe just a pair of earrings.

Jayneisagirlsname · 16/06/2018 20:37

I love it! You sound like the perfect shape to wear it too. I'd go with either ankle boots or strappy flats but not heels.
Of course, I'm several dress sizes away from being able to wear it myself so please buy it and I'll imagine its mine 😊

I think associating leopard print with Bet Lynch is more ageing than wearing it tbh...

Exactly. Who is Bet Lynch anyway? Wink
Animal print is really popular this year.

Oi I’m 36! I do love leopard print though!

untilthatday · 16/06/2018 22:47

Oh my god. Mutton?! What are people on? That's a lovely outfit, I'd wear it and I'm 45. Leopard print is practically a 'neutral' and the style is associated
If I had a spare £36 I'd snap it up instantly. Perfect for winter and summer, dressed up and down.

Serendipite · 16/06/2018 22:56

Just wear it OP. We’re around the same age and I won’t wear that but I’m 5’8” and a size 14. I also don’t like leopard print but if I do, I’d wear it. If I have your frame, I’d wear whatever I want. Time goes by fast - enjoy while you can!

And I also just got carded recently!

PolkaHots · 17/06/2018 01:17

The oppostite of cheap and tacky isn’t twin set and Hotters. It’s classy and stylish.

Monty27 · 17/06/2018 01:23

It does look tacky and cheap. I have too many criticisms to continue.
If it was at least a bit more stylish I would go with the poster above straw hat and flats on a beach holiday if you must.

SnowGoArea · 17/06/2018 01:25

I'm afraid I thought it looked like one of those flimsy dressing gowns Blush

Hoppinggreen · 17/06/2018 09:30

Look, wear whatever you want and feel happy in but there are a lot more options than a leopard print jumpsuit or a twin set
That jumpsuit isn’t very nice but that’s MY opinion, other people might hate something I wear and that’s ok but I suppose not think age has anything to do with it

Moore6701 · 17/06/2018 09:38

Sounds like you have the figure for it ,so go for it. I am your age and wouldn’t wear it, but only for the simple reason that am built like a shire horse and have never been able to pull of the play suit at any age.

Floisme · 17/06/2018 10:40

I always struggle to get past the name 'playsuit' which is infantilising to the point of being creepy. But once I have, I just see shorts with a matching, joined on shirt, far less revealing than the average body con dress. A lot of people don't like leopardprint but then the op wasn't asking if you like it. If anyone thinks, without even seeing it on the op, that it's unsuitable then I assume they think short floaty dresses are unseemly too.

And op, although I sympathise, you've thrown around a few stereotypes and meat references yourself. The older you get, the more you're going to find yourself pigeon holed and your clothing judged and policed. My main advice, for what it's worth, is to stop worrying and to try not to join in, otherwise you just become part of the problem.

makeupmaven · 17/06/2018 10:50

I think you sound like you've got the perfect figure for it, OP. And if you've got it, flaunt it (no matter what the age)! :)

Tangled59 · 17/06/2018 11:57

I only like leopard print for a coat.

The playsuit is tacky.

Bombardier25966 · 17/06/2018 12:09

It looks flammable. It's not classy. I think playsuits look better on a more curvy lady (and that's not an insult, there will be plenty of things that look better on you).

There are lots of options between trashy and classy that don't involve twin set and pearls!

ilovecherries · 17/06/2018 12:55

Floisme speaks, and once again I nod my head.

neveradullmoment99 · 17/06/2018 15:17

That's the thing. I really don't get why people have such aversion to this type of garment. Floisme is right. It is like shorts and a top and I agree - far less revealing than a short dress. I really don't get why wearing this means you need to be 3.
