Honestly, am I too old for this?

www.riverisland.com/p/brown-leopard-print-plisse-belted-playsuit-721759

Spotted this in my local RI, but will have to order online as couldn't get my size in store (hence no photo of me actually wearing it) BUT, am I told old at 38 for a leopard print playsuit? Am I venturing into mutton territory?

I'm 5' 3" and a size 6-8. Small boobs and my legs are my best feature.

I'd wear it casually with black tights and black ankle chunky heel boots, or if I was wearing it as a 'going out' outfit, with black heels and tanned legs.

Not too old at all. I really like it. To try and elevate it from river island status I would wear it with a well cut cream blazer in good material. If you have good legs bare legs and angle boots, lose the tights.

Caroline Flack is about the same age as you and dress size and she was recently photographed wearing a play suit with ankle boots looking amazing.

HildaZelda · 15/06/2018 21:45

Some mixed opinions there!

I'm about 6 inches shorter than the model so it would be a good bit longer on me anyway.
I'm brunette so no blonde beehive a la Bet Lynch and I definitely wouldn't be wearing it with chandelier earrings Grin
I look younger than I am. I get asked for ID a fair bit.

I think I'll order it and see what it looks like on.

That is an awful playsuit

TwoGinScentedTears · 15/06/2018 22:01

I'm watching the 1st season the handmaids tale (late to the TV show party!) and with that in mind, I say you can and should wear whatever the fuck you want to.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 15/06/2018 22:03

Go for it, if I had the figure I would.

Hoppinggreen · 15/06/2018 22:37

Your age isn’t the issue

Xmasbaby11 · 15/06/2018 22:40

You sound like you have a great figure and can carry it off! Why not, you're only going to get older, so why not enjoy wearing what you like?

Bluntness100 · 15/06/2018 22:49

Yeah that's not about age, my 21 year old and alll her mates would eat their own livers before they went out in that. I guess you're not aiming for elegant. It's not a good look.

However what worries me Is you Id comment. With the utmost respect. No man or woman knocking on forty looks 17. I'm sorry.

I would say don't do it. You can look sexy and elegant, without looking tacky and cheap.

GertyTheGert · 15/06/2018 22:53

CountFosco you are soooo right! I really like it and I am lots older! I hadn't clicked on the pic until after I had read your comment and I am "surprised" by how nice it is, eg its not skin-tight, its not achingly short! Go for it HildaZelda! Life is far too short, believe me!

GertyTheGert · 15/06/2018 23:03

Ignore Bluntness Hilda, its "Seize the day" - having lost two friends to cancer and one to a brain tumour I'd say wear what you want, when you want and I bet you don't look tacky and cheap in it either. My idea of a hellish outfit for you would be any M&S 2018 Summer Collection which I call "Look, its from Freemans catalogue circa 1972 and made of cheapo material". Yeuk.

Anotherdayanothernight · 15/06/2018 23:09

Definitely not too old but do not like the outfit

HildaZelda · 15/06/2018 23:10

Cheers Gerty. Bluntness certainly is eh? Grin
The ID comment was because a previous poster had commented that if I looked younger than my age, then the play suit might be okay. I said I got asked for ID a bit. My local Tesco ask if they think you look under 25. I never claimed that I looked 17.
When your 21 year old and her friends are 'eating their livers', might I suggest some fava beans and a nice chianti as an accompaniment? Wine

Bluntness100 · 15/06/2018 23:13

Ha,, fair enough,,🤣🤣🤣

It's not a good outfit though seriously. I think it would be ok on the beach or holiday.

IwankaTramp · 15/06/2018 23:17

You are not too old- there is something really off with the styling of it though. I think it is the sleeves

Singlenotsingle · 15/06/2018 23:18

You're joking, right?

GertyTheGert · 15/06/2018 23:29

HildaZelda - glad (not ALL for my sake!) you explained the 25 age thingy, however I thought wottttt? when I read someone thought you claimed to look 17 - I thought have I gone word-blind, as I couldn't remember you claiming to look like a teenager! AND I admire Bluntness for explaining it was her choice (ie not being nasty or personal). I still like the RI outfit though and if I was Hilda's size I would seriously consider! In fact I am a size 18 River Island tart (more autumn/winter tho - for my fat tum's sake!!!!!!!)

MarklahMarklah · 15/06/2018 23:40

Answer this question:
Are you dead?

If you are not dead you're not too old.

unbalancedBella · 16/06/2018 06:51

Well I like it. I'd wear it and I have 10 years on you! (Bought a very similar cut floral playsuit in Zara last week.)

echt · 16/06/2018 06:58

It's horrendous unless worn to a fancy dress party.

Age is not relevant here, IMHO.

LadyWithLapdog · 16/06/2018 07:02

I like it. I think it would go best on the beach. Age largely irrelevant.

Bettyfood · 16/06/2018 07:06

I'd certainly wear a playsuit but in a different pattern.

Honestly, am I too old for this?
mistermagpie · 16/06/2018 07:07

I'm 38 and I wouldn't wear it. I don't think it's an age thing necessarily, but all over leopard can look quite cheap anyway. With a floral or some other print it would be fine.

Bluesheep8 · 16/06/2018 08:09

I think it's more a size than an age thing. If you're tiny and petite (which you are) then I think it would look great. You also said your legs are good and that would really show them off without looking tacky as they're the only part on show iyswim. Bare legs and flats in summer and thick black tights and ankle boots in cooler weather. Minimal/simple accessories and I think you'll look great! Grin

Bluntness100 · 16/06/2018 11:14

I agree on in another print it would be fine.

If you're going to go all over leopard print I don't think it's advisable to also go either very short or very tight. You move into tacksville/a bit desperate/try hard, irrelevant of age, especially if it's in a cheap material like this.

And where as you could look at a teen in it and think she's just a bit of a fun dresser, I think as you head towards your forties, it's not a good look, unless wearing it with some flats on holiday with a nice tan.

ColinsVeryJolly · 16/06/2018 11:36

Of course you can wear it!

But not as a going out outfit with heels, that would look tacky.

As a summer evening outfit with nice flat sandals and loose Beachy waves it would look fab.
