Holy shit - first bikini wax!

Scottishlassie81 · 31/05/2018 14:19

Just had my first wax ever at lunchtime and I chose a Hollywood bikini wax! In at the deep end.

I thought it would be painful but not too bad and I have several tattoos.

Oh my god! It was agony!

I'm scared to look at it!

I've been getting Hollywood waxes since I was 18. I'm 30 now. Doesn't get any less painful I don't think Sad Hurt even more during pregnancy and the first time after giving birth when I had left it for a few months. Ouch!!!

Scottishlassie81 · 01/06/2018 09:17

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am going to seek out hot wax. This was strip and torture wax!!

I am still a bit traumatised today. I took paracetamol so god knows if it would have been even worse without the painkillers!

OMG strip wax for a Hollywood???? Just no!!! I don't go anywhere that uses strip wax for bikini waxing. Look for anywhere that does the hot Lycon or chocolate wax as it is far less painful.

Don't know what area you are in OP, but if you are in the Sevenoaks/Maidstone area I can recommend a couple of places where I go if you want to 'pm me.

Sametimesameplace · 01/06/2018 09:38

I don’t think it gets less painful and I don’t think the hair gets finer!

AbigailisFarty · 01/06/2018 09:39

Why, just why?

This is a fashion that should die.

it's unnatural, painful and what is the point?

Lottapianos · 01/06/2018 10:01

I feel your pain OP. I had Hollywood waxes with strip wax for years. The first time I had it done, it felt like someone had set fire to my bits. It took every ounce of willpower not to beg her to stop.

Hot wax is LOADS better, if you ever fancy getting it done again!

Namechange128 · 01/06/2018 10:03

For people who wax all the time, it'll end up much cheaper, less hassle and less painful to have laser removal. Costs up front but then just refresh once a year or so and it's brilliant!

HRTpatch · 01/06/2018 10:05

I have had Hollywoods for years and don't notice any discomfort now.

Babdoc · 01/06/2018 10:13

I’m with Abigailis, above. Why do women put themselves through this torture? To please men who are used to bald women from porn movies? Why would you want to remove pubic hair, a nice healthy sign of adult womanhood, in order to look like a prepubescent child?
Are your partners all closet paedophiles?
I’ve seen about 10,000 naked women over the years in my NHS job, and the ones who removed their hair all seemed to have spots, ingrown hairs, rashes - it looked painful and revolting.
Can any of you explain why you do it, as it seems very anti feminist to me?

RubberJohnny · 01/06/2018 10:14

If you had strip wax, please e exfoliate regularly as you're more likely to get ingrown hairs.
Lycon or Perron Rigot hot wax are what you want. Everyone says Lycon is the least painful but I find no difference between either of the two I've mentioned. It's wax, it's pulling hair out at the root, my science brain says that's going to smart a bit regardless of brand! And I've been having everything off for years so know enough to say it's more down to the therapist not the product.

Lottapianos · 01/06/2018 10:31

Babdoc, I agree, it does sound a bit crazy. And that's from someone who had Hollywood waxes for years and still gets legs and bikini line waxed regularly.

I'm a feminist but don't have much time for the old flannel that it's all about choice and any choice a woman makes is a good one. Having your body hair painfully ripped out at the roots is not a feminist choice. I do it because I feel sexier, more attractive and more feminine with no body hair in certain places. I've been conditioned to feel that way by the images of female beauty I see around me. So I own my choice, but I realise that I didn't make it in a vacuum, and I realise why it would sound crazy to others.

Scottishlassie81 · 01/06/2018 11:10

I am in Scotland. Thanks for offering to recommend though.

I waxed for me and for personal preference. Same as how I choose to style my head hair. I don't do it for anyone else.

Thanks for all the votes for hot wax you have all saved me some pain if I go back for another wax it'll be a hot wax.

Babdoc

I do it because when I have the full grown thing going on I find it incredibly itchy, sweaty, find I get more ingrown hairs, they get caught in my underwear and I'm generally uncomfortable.

It's not torture, that is such a ridiculous statement. For many who get it done regularly it really doesn't hurt very much, and it's worth it for the lovely feeling afterwards. Nothing to do with my partner or porn.

Confusssed · 01/06/2018 11:29

No decent therapist should use strip wax on your bikini line. It's really painful because it removes the top layer of skin + the hair. It's really bad for your skin and usually leads to red bumps + ingrown hairs.

They should use the hot wax/Lycon process. Much easier and more gentle.

Confusssed · 01/06/2018 11:40

Waxing isn't a recent fashion created by the porn industry FFS. If you look at history there is plenty of evidence that ancient civilizations often removed body hair. This was quite a bit before the Internet or images of porn splashed across SM.

People have always removed body hair because it looks and feels more aesthetically pleasing. That's all.

HRTpatch · 01/06/2018 11:43

Im nearly 60 and have neen.completely removing pubic hair for over 20 years. Nothing to do with the preferences of a partner.
And I do not remotely resemble a paedophile's wet dream ffs.

EdWinchester · 01/06/2018 11:49

It drives me mad - all the feminist drivel that gets regularly churned up as soon as anyone mentions waxing.

I get mine all waxed off, including my bum hole because it looks nice (no rash whatsoever) and because it feels bloody lovely. And because there is no risk of straggly pubes poking out of my bikini or sweaty pubes.

Having no pubes does not make you look like a child, ffs. It’s entirely my choice, my non paedophile husband has never been involved in the decision process and nor has he ever been into porn. He thinks porn stars have big 70s bushes!

And if lying back on a bed for 15 minutes chatting to my therapist whilst she waxes me is ‘torture’, I’m clearly a deviant.

My midwife friend, btw, says she loves it when a woman has had a thorough wax before labour!

Branleuse · 01/06/2018 11:51

The only time I ever had it done, not only was it excruciatingly painful, it also left me with ingrown hairs and spots everywhere down there as soon as the hair tried to grow back.

Shaving is much gentler

MargoLovebutter · 01/06/2018 11:52

I loathe bikini waxing and have given up. I have an "intimate trimmer", one of the ones you can stick up your nose, and I find that works best for my whole foof area.

For me, bikini waxing was akin to torture, even with hot wax and then when the hair grew back I got rampant bikini acne - no matter how much gentle exfoliating I did!!!!!!

I happily wax my legs but will not do bikini waxing any more.

Pleasebeafleabite · 01/06/2018 11:54

Definitely book hot wax OP makes a massive difference

SexyManatee · 01/06/2018 11:59

Having no pubes does not make you look like a child, ffs.

My massive tits make sure of that.

The older I get the less I care about waxing. I'm playing with the idea of letting my armpit hairs grow, but keep chickening out and shaving them because conforming feels easier.

I only bother to wax my legs any more. Veet/Nair doesn't work on my pubes, or else I'd do that. Shaving is my method of choice for connivence, but I only really bother with it if my pubes are feeling itchy.

SexyManatee · 01/06/2018 12:00

*Convenience that should read.

Nquartz · 01/06/2018 12:15

I love bikini waxing, my hair was always abundant but after approx 20 years of waxing it hardly grows back & I only need to wax for my annual big holiday

murphys · 01/06/2018 13:01

Blimey, strip wax on bikini area.

They wont allow it at all where I go. No strip wax at all. They wont even use strip for eyebrows anymore. I do however think, the shaping was better with strip, but i get them threaded now instead.

I have had a clean up with strip on bikini area. She used it to get out the stubborn hairs. I was so bruised and raw after. Never again.

madmomma · 01/06/2018 14:10

Babdoc the main reason I have it done is because receiving oral sex when fully waxed is out of this world. Incomparable with having it when u waxed. That's about as feminist as it gets isn't it? The pleasure outweighs the pain. My husband couldn't give a fig what I do with my public hair, and even if he had an opinion I'd ignore it.
