Sorry I meant bananafish, not peony, when talking about the sandals and jeans.

HLBug · 03/06/2018 20:07

Delurking to ask Elle if she could please post a link to that Arket shirt - it hangs so beautifully on you. I love the green skirt too.

botemp · 03/06/2018 20:46

banana your body language is more telling than your words Grin I think they're too straight and your body is already like that so these trousers just make you more straight and unnecessarily wide on the bottom. You need a bit of movement in a trouser, either in a sharp contour or a slouch that suggests shape but not something that would hang so straight as it throws you off balance. Are you looking for a casual pair specifically?

Thanks for letting me know, HappyGirl, generous is not favourable for me so you've saved me an order. How did you get on with the check jumpsuit?

Love that skirt on you, Elle, I'm still resisting visiting the newly opened Arket here in fear of wallet depletion but I may just have to try the skirt sometime. I'd thought since it works well for you it would be too long for me but it looks a good length for me too by your pics. I agree the shoes feel a bit 'heavy' underneath but it's not terrible either.

Kimono time again, another men's one with the Iro silk trousers and an Alexander Wang bodysuit. It's a bit pyjamas deluxe but I think it worked somehow. Hats didn't work with this outfit. Apols for terrible lighting and questionable pose Blush

And can I just say, compliments by an 80+ yo dressed and groomed to the nines woman, are the best ever. She was quite embarrassed to do so as I sort of caught her staring thinking I possibly knew her at which point she was lovely and gushing and admitted to admiring me in another store we'd both been in before that one. I returned the compliment, of course, as she looked far more impressive than me tbh. This was yesterday though (pic 2), wasn't really dressed that special, so was quite surprised by it, it was quite chilly but not cold enough to need a coat so I pulled out the French denim jumpsuit I got earlier this year for a bargainous price at TKMaxx but felt needed to be worn a bit more often.

I’m sorry HLbug my post was unclear. The skirt is Arket www.arket.com/en_eur/women/skirts/product.cotton-twill-skirt-beige.0616928002.html
The shirt is Equipment slim signaturewww.equipmentfr.com/slim-signature-nature-white-solid . My post wasn’t very clear. Typing on my phone is not conducive to clarity.

ToElleWithIt · 03/06/2018 20:56

Love the outfits bomtemp. adds silk trousers to shopping list

HLBug · 03/06/2018 21:44

Thank you Elle. Unfortunately my size is sold out and with international shipping / returns it's probably at the top end of budget. I knew thinking it was Arket was too good to be true.

The search continues...if anyone else knows of a beautiful white silk shirt that is similar then I'd be delighted to know.

Oh and since I've delurked I might as well go full out and say I fully agree with the 80+ year lady and declare my girl / style crush for bo Blush

Right...back behind the lurking curtain I shall now go.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 03/06/2018 22:04

I've had a very similar silk shirt from Massimo Dutti a few years ago. Zara and Mango also had some nice ones recently.

I've been packing up my mother's clothes for a house move and found about ten silk shirts bought anything up to 25 years ago, some with the labels still on. The quality was amazing, much thicker and drapier than modern ones.

botemp · 03/06/2018 22:17
Blush

HLBug, I usually pick up my Equipment shirts from Yoox. White will probably be a harder colour to source from there (depending on size, although the Equipment shirts are pretty sizeless if you're after their signature relaxed fit) but worth keeping an eye out. The Outnet has them too now and then.

In my search for silk camisoles I am looking at Grana (similar to Everlane), they have very similar silk shirts (the crepe de chine silk are the better quality ones) too but it ships from Hong Kong and the whole import taxes/duties are a bit confusing to me. The sale looks really alluring but they only take returns in exchange for store credit so that's put me off a bit, but at full price it's not all that expensive.

I love Filippa K for their silk shirts too. Generally a bit cleaner in design (no pockets).

peonylover22 · 03/06/2018 23:03

Catching up! Lots of shopping from you all this weekend!
Bo I love the Toteme trousers, really beautiful and fluid.
Auld, I like your dress.
Bananafish keep the sandals (you won’t regret it), return the trousers - you don’t look happy in them.
Elle more great outfits! Sandals look great. Really like your bracelet too in the t-shirt shot. In fact all your jewellery. Maybe I need a similar necklace...
Update on the tan crossbody bag quest. Thank you for the VB suggestion (which I also loved) but I’ve decided to have a bespoke one made. I’ve found a chap on Etsy who is based in North Wales. It will be based on this bag, but slightly bigger, no contrasting stitching and a much more simple strap and strap fastening. I’m a bit nervous but excited too! And I like the idea of sending my money to a small independent producer.
The Gap dress arrived and whilst was fitted on the waist, had way too much fabric on the skirt so made me look huge.
Found my summer blazer too today in Massimo Dutti but it is out of stock in my size. Annoying as it was exactly what I wanted. Will try ringing a few stores tomorrow...
Finally had a bespoke lipstick made today! It’s a sheer red with blue undertones. You get to name it so I have gone for “bisoux jolie” in honour of this thread.

peonylover22 · 04/06/2018 08:43

Argh should be “bisous jolie” Blush Hopefully it can be corrected...

OCSock · 04/06/2018 09:51

It sounds as if everyone's having fun assembling Parisienne outfits for June! I'm on a no-shop interlude, as there is really nothing that I want or need for summer, so getting vicarious thrills from following all your acquisitions.

Peony, I thoroughly approve the notion of commissioning your bag to get exactly what you want, and paying the person who made it all the money!

Bo, I love real life compliments like that, both offering them and (more rarely) receiving them; it makes people glow a little.

OCSock · 04/06/2018 09:53

Plus, it's A level high season, and today has the potential to be absolutely miserable. DS may come home feeling dreadful if physics is anything like as awful as he fears.

quirkychick · 04/06/2018 10:46

I never buy from Cos, I'm sure because there isn't one here and it can be hard to tell what the clothes will look like on.

bananafish the wide bottoms of the trousers look ok to me, is it how they're fitted round the waist/hips or you could do with a less stiff and more flared out style? I know I have to watch anything too straight up and down.

Nice pictures, Elle.

It's great to get compliments, bo the jumpsuit looks great, and the first outfit. A 70yr old friend and neighbour asked me yesterday if I was late 30s (actually 47), I was in a drapey navy jumpsuit.

Peony I'm currently awaiting some handmade sandals from Etsy that are supposed to be being redelivered today. I have a high instep and the seller said he could make the straps a bit looser for me. Previously, I've only bought little bits of (not expensive) jewellery on Etsy. Slightly nervous too.

quirkychick · 04/06/2018 12:10

My lovely sandals have arrived from Etsy. Really soft leather and soft rubber sole, I'm so pleased they fit as my difficult feet often can't cope with many styles. They are from a this seller www.etsy.com/uk/shop/pterna?section_id=19710288

CatherineMaitland · 04/06/2018 21:01

Is it a style sin NOT to have painted toenails with sandals? (not sure I can face the thought of doing mine!).

botemp · 04/06/2018 21:24

Eh, not that I'm aware of, Catharine, I only have a clear coat or an opaque pink on when I can be arsed which is approximately one time a year...

Exciting about the bag, Peony, looking forward to seeing the results. Hope you've been able to source the MD blazer.

Good luck to SockSon! I'm actually terrible at offering compliments, Sock, which is rather shameful. I should really make more of an effort but it's just not something that comes naturally or anything I was brought up on.

I like the look of that Etsy shop, quirky, are the soles very stiff? Not that I need any more sandals Blush

I've been experidressing today. I'm a bit low on the 'quasi intimidating art gallerist' work wardrobe pieces for summer (Cos was my default supplier for this) that are a bit more abstract/sculptural. It's not a massive issue as the industry pretty much shuts down in July and August so there's never been a big need for it but this streak of nice weather is definitely challenging it. So I had to get creative today and decided to wear an old linen white and blue fine striped shirt dress upside down and back to front as a top, crossing the back, rolling up the sleeves, and tying it all up at the front to give me a waist through all the volume. Quite pleased with the results and I got the IM trainers in which were a 'they'll go with everything' purchase but actually aren't getting much wear, partially down to the warmer weather but I have probably unfairly been ignoring them.

Although by midday I realised I could have worn my new Zara shirt that's still sitting with its tags in the shipping box. Not a good sign really, I tried the make-up stained one in store again and I'm having the same wobble about the fit with that one. Don't know what the issue is, but it's annoying me nonetheless.

quirkychick · 05/06/2018 06:55

bo, no the soles are very soft and flexible, speaking as someone who has had plantar fasciitis and can't cope with thin, stiff soles at all. I chose the rubber option (that sounds all kinds of wrong!) so not sure what the leather soles are like. I emailed the shop owner as I have a high instep, and he offered to make the straps a bit longer, replying in 2 hours, which I thought was pretty impressive.

CatherineMaitland I paint my toenails but not my fingernails as they annoy me. I do put a quick drying topcoat on, which makes them last longer. I'm trying out this more classic red, but often wear silver or pale blue in summer too (not very parisian). I think it's a personal style thing rather than a style sin!

I like your experidressing Grin it's always good to see new ways to wear old pieces!

CatherineMaitland · 05/06/2018 07:06

It is a gorgeous dark red, quirkychick. Love that colour.

I work around food (not actually in food service but close enough) so varnish on fingernails is a bit of a no-go area. I might consider giving the toes a go though. One day. Probably need to do some work on the nails first, they aren't awful but they are not exactly perfect either.

Floisme · 05/06/2018 07:26

I've got some catching up to do again but a quick yay for silk shirts - I wear them a lot in the summer - cooler than cotton and I find the sweat dries instantly so no soggy patches.

I have locked up the Toteme website and thrown away the key but would love to see them when they arrive bo.

banana I quite like those trousers but they don't look very high waisted to me. Have you tried going higher and wider in the leg? I think it gives a sharper/more interesting silhouette.

Sock hope your son's A Levels are going ok. It's a stressful time.

Catherine I never, ever paint my nails be it fingers or toes. Admittedly I very rarely wear sandals. (My feet burn.)

peonylover22 · 05/06/2018 08:45

I like your sandals Quirky. Wondering about a pair of tan sandals for myself from there... sounds like he might be able to make the straps slightly wider for my rectangular feet?!
I have tracked down the last MD blazer in my size. It’s in Guildford which is not very handy for me. MD won’t do store transfers or telephone sales which I think is a bit crap. Surely a chain that size must must have the ability to do a store transfer?! But given that there’s only one left, maybe they think they’re doing quite well enough already without offering that customer service Hmm After some special pleading I got them to agree to hold it more than 24 hours and then managed to coax a more senior colleague into picking it up for me on the weekend Blush It had better fit!
Bo another very cool outfit. I would never ever think of doing that, and can only stand back in awe.
I always have painted toenails. That’s because an unfortunate incident in the Alhambra Palace has left me with a permanently damaged big toenail, and no one wants to see that in its unpainted state! I also run a fair amount which isn’t great for the rest of the toenails. I go for a red or pink, ranging from corals to hot pink to deep blacky crimson reds. I hardly ever have painted fingernails as they chip too quickly - too much gardening and housework! - and I don’t like what gels do to your nails. Banana I have found OPI Cajun shrimp a good match for the Sezane coral sandals if you want to be matchy
matchy.
Hope SockSon’s exam went okay.

OCSock · 05/06/2018 10:38

Thanks for all the kind wishes: the physics paper wasn't catastrophic apparently, and he came home in reasonable spirits we were fit to be tied with anxiety.

Following the experidressing and the commissioning process with interest but not playing myself (other than replacing my dog walking shoes with walking sandals, no style points claimed).

Toenails are always painted in summer, usually red or orange, but are currently rouge-noir; fingernails buffed, except at Christmas.

quirkychick · 05/06/2018 11:10

The dark red is a cheap Rimmel 60secs dry one, I use a Revlon top coat. I buff my fingernails too.

peony thank you, I'm really pleased with them too. I'm sure you could get the straps looser, although the shop owner assured me the leather would stretch. It's gorgeous, soft leather too. Yy to rectangular feet.

quirkychick · 05/06/2018 13:57

CatherineMaitland it's Rapid Ruby by Rimmel. They had lots of nice reds, actually.

botemp · 06/06/2018 08:55

My Trousers should be arriving today. I'm equal parts nervous and excited Confused

Maybe I should try painted colour toenails. I normally don't like the lack of versatility in the rest of my wardrobe that painted colour nails can sometimes bring but I'm lured in by the sound of Cajun shrimps, because I really like eating those Blush
