Oooo I LOVE that Chloe dress ToElleWithIt! Am sure it's ££££ though! I wonder if it comes in other colours.... will google

SophieLion · 20/08/2018 12:44

Peregrane, to echo what Bo and the others said earlier: I think I have impulse bought after at least two of my births and they've always ended up more or less bad buys (except for a pair of jeans for some reason...). My desperation to buy new clothes after the pregnancy + lack of sleep + hormones was not a good combination!

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 20/08/2018 13:42

Peregrane good to see you back.

I'm afraid I'll echo what others have advised. I also made the mistake of buying clothes for after the pregnancy, but it turned out that my body took a while to get back to old weight, when it did it was a different shape and the fashion had moved on. For the second pregnancy I was smarter :): after I had the baby I bought -a load of- clothes for that transitional period. It wasn't super expensive (mostly Toast and Cos from eBay) but it was right in shape and size for the time and even if I only wore most of them for six months to a year I happily let go of them once I didn't need them. I mostly passed them on to friends who recently had babies.

I haven't been posting for the past two days as I have been home alone sans the kids. I did the whole cliche thing of dying my hair, painting my nails, doing hair and face masks etc, doing yoga (proper long one with meditation!) and a long walk yesterday. All the things that take time and time I can never afford. Maybe we should have a French mum subthread?

quirky I have that Ilse Jakobsen coat too, in pale grey. It's a bit of a boring colour but it goes with everything. My DP looked really worried when I spent a lot of money on it and announced I'll be wearing this for the next ten years. Good to know yours is keeping well.

bo The Everlane bag is really beautiful colour.

Following our conversations here and inspired by camel and pastels combo, I wore a camel top today with blush trousers and blue-greyish shoes to work (I realise this sounds sketchy but it actually looked nice IMHO). I thought I looked all Copenhagen street style until an older lady got on the bus in an almost identical colour ensemble. I wanted to high five her, a style sister (and with a humbled outlook on what I think is original).

I'm very much looking forward to Uniqlo opening in Stockholm Grin - will definitely go on another shopping trip with my girls later this autumn.

Am going to be brutally honest and say I dislike those "stylish" leather backpacks. Overdosed on them in the 90s when all the middle-aged women wore them. Not as practical as a real rucksack, yet not a proper bag. Mishmash. This is just prejudiced of me, obviously. :) No real reason!

Forgot to comment on Peregranes trousers, but I have such trouble from the pictures. Is it just me or does the fit look bad on all the models? No wonder shopping online is terrible ;) But speaking of trousers, it's getting colder by the day and I still have no jeans ...

Elle - I think the Irish women are very groomed though! It certainly became a thing during the Tiger years. My sister worked in an office full of women all moaning about having to give up their weekly pedicure when the recession hit ;) But yes, not a class society the same way. I mean, the farmers may well be the wealthy ones. Have you read Oh My God, What a Complete Aisling? :D

quirkychick · 20/08/2018 14:49

JonSnow the pale grey version is lovely too, mine does still look good despite often stuffed in a bag of "rain gear" on days out when the forecast is dubious. On the downside it is very heavy and can be a bit sweaty, not sure if it's technical fabric or just rubberised, bo. If it's very heavy rain it can get a bit damp inside where the hood is attached. Whereas my parka is absolutely waterproof.

I quite like the look of this one www.celticandco.com/womens/womens-outerwear/wax-cotton-jackets/wax-riding-coat which is quite fitted, not that I need or have the budget for it!

981 messages! Who is going to start the next thread? /bites nails/

Thank you for talking sense to me about the trousers 😀 the detailed analysis by Flo and bo also agreed... My body shape didn’t really change long term
after the first pregnancy, bar expanding by a few cm, and I’ve decided that it will be the same this time around. Mind you, I’d also decided that I’ll work till late and be fit, operational, and getting a minimum amount of sleep soon after giving birth; and I’ve basically spent the entire summer indoors as an invalid with one thing or another...

bo thank you for linking to the Seafarers in dark denim! Rookie question: what does the 25 cm refer to (not the waist measurement; this site includes this extra bit of data which seems to be linked to the slimness of the cut? There are other listings with a looser cut in the same style that mention 30 cm. Is it the leg opening at the bottom? Or at the thighs?)

The last time Ferragamo officially stocked the Audreys was two years ago I think. Last year I still found a pair online but only through search, it didn’t show up when browsing, and the shop assistants were surprised that this option was still there. They also said that customers kept asking for them and they didn’t know why they were not being stocked 🤔

Thanks to everyone who was outraged on my behalf about the Fold trench, I was about to email them again and I saw a second message from them - they had internally escalated it and now were offering free return shipping or covering the cost of a dry cleaning. I’ll go with the latter and hope it works. Victory!

Floisme j’adore that IdlF collection for Uniqlo!! I’ve never actually shopped with them before - are they likely to sell out in five minutes, or would I have some time in case I am mad with sleep deprivation around the 30th? So many things I like (also a few in the Uniqlo U preview). It’s probably bo’s advent calendar from last year that I was just reading that sensitised me to it, but now I feel the need for that tartan jumper. I also like the bin shirt in beige with a priestly collar (the colour would most likely look shite on me, but I wonder what kind of jacket or knitwear might go with it to make up for that), the cashmere jumper with ties in red or navy, etc...

Sorry I forgot who posted about Everlane first, but I saw some shirts there that would fill a gap in my mum’s wardrobe. Is the only option to buy via the US site and swallow the customs charges, or do they have an EU distributor that I could not find?

Peregrane · 20/08/2018 17:52

Bib shirt not bin shirt..

botemp · 20/08/2018 18:12

Jon I love it when a Grande dame of style outdresses me in a similar outfit. We all like to think we're all so original Wink

Peregrane, I assume the 25cm is in relation to the inseam? Which would mean they're probably low waisted, which makes sense for the Penelope.

Everlane occasionally has a window for international shipping, the last one was unexpected and I missed it Hmm but they always open it up for free international shipping the week around Black Friday/Cyber Monday and then you prepay the custom charges which is always cheaper than paying afterwards. Or use a forwarding service, they won't ship directly the rest of the year, unfortunately.

Grana, based in HK is a similar brand and price point which does ship here but if you buy in the sale you only get store credit back. I'm not exactly clear on the import charges as they say they do the best not to burden customers with that but how exactly is a little confusing to me.

IdlF can go quickly but a lot goes back, IME the colabs in Uniqlo fits smaller, and sometimes the fabrics are disappointing. They usually start at 8 or 9 in the morning, so no need to stay up at night.

Floisme · 20/08/2018 18:16

Peregrane I haven't ordered the Idlf but normally all the collabs are a bunfight with some items selling out pretty much instantly. (I imagine this is a marketing wheeze and that said items are intentionally low stocked.) However there are always returns and sometimes they restock if an item proves really popular. So if I miss out I just keep rechecking the website - obsessively, several times a day, sometimes every hour Blush and I think I've always landed it eventually.

Floisme · 20/08/2018 18:17

Ah bo beat me too it Grin

Floisme · 20/08/2018 18:18

to it Blush

Floisme · 21/08/2018 07:49

Well I've just put Nivea on my hair thinking it was wax and, because I've been dicking around on S&B, I've no time to wash it again but you know what, it looks ok. So far. Blue pot Nivea. I shall report back.

Peregrane · 21/08/2018 09:48

Flo 😃 This may be the start of a new Mumsnet Thing!
I love blue pot Nivea. On my hands. 😉

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 21/08/2018 09:59

Ha I used to do that as a teenager when combed back (or side) wet look was a thing. Looking back it was a greasy look but we rocked it.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 21/08/2018 10:02

Look for today

This thread is about as French as a Sainsbury's baguette
botemp · 21/08/2018 10:16

Clearly, that picture calls for us all to jump ship to a new thread. My eyes!!!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3342240-Les-Parisiennes-de-Mamansnet-Orangutans-in-Paris-make-for-poor-gondoliers

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 21/08/2018 10:25

Lol we well and truly veered away from Paris. Smile But hey it all came back to the Sainsbury’s baguette of the title. Thanks for starting the new thread bo, see you there now that I ruined this one.

banivani · 21/08/2018 12:20

I once met a hairdresser who said that a very light layer of Nivea in the blue pot smoothed out the hair and made it look glossy and silky (like in the ads) when you sort of melted it into the hair with the hairdryer and a brush. He showed us too, it did work. But this perhaps was not what you did ... ;)

Floisme · 21/08/2018 12:31

Not exactly - I scooped out a big dollop and had scrunched it all in before I noticed Blush

Mind you I think I have read about a woman - forgotten her name but a CEO with really cool grey hair who allegedly uses it so maybe I was subliminally channelling her. Anyway so far so good.

banivani · 21/08/2018 12:32

wet'n'wild, eh?
