I knew you'd all be here whilst the wedding was on-was at a wedding brunch so would have been rude to get out my phone I really really wanted to tho!

You've all said exactly what we all thought from gorgeous George Clooney, toilet facilities Grinto all the fab and not so fab frocks.

Loved Megan's dress, so understated but with the beautiful tiara and train. Did anyone notice the pageboy's face when the trumpets started playing? Priceless!

Loved Oprah, Amal Clooney & Sophie Wessex's outfits. Also James Cordon's wife looked stunning in a very simple pale pink.

FedupNagging · 19/05/2018 16:50

Also, excellent news on the job front Mara, will keep everything crossed for you.

Lovely to see you back Topaz and waves to Pomegranate

FedupNagging · 19/05/2018 17:37

I meant the beautiful veil, not train obv!

libertyonhertravels · 20/05/2018 04:32

Her evening reception dress is totally perfect too.

I'm loving the FB chatter about Bishop Michael - I've read the text of his speech - it was fantastic - drifted a bit with the fire analogy but the sentiment was spot on and good for him taking his opportunity to remind people of the horrors of slavery in the bastion of the establishment that profited so much from it. Shame that the mode of delivery, which was just such a shock to everyone, may have stopped people from actually hearing what he was saying.

Now I need some help!!! We move into our monster of a new house in just over a week and it needs a complete overhaul, renovations, new kitchen, bathrooms, decorating and new furniture as most of what we have is too small in scale for the proportions of this place. I can picture exactly what to do re the changes in layout and feel ok about bathrooms etc but neither DH nor I have a clue where to start on decorating / furnishing etc. What is the best thing to do? Pick a colour scheme first, or pick some amazing furniture and take it from there??? Too many choices. One of the first things we need is a new couch and I'm dizzy with options. Grateful for any hints and tips any of you have and I'd really like some recommendations for some good interiors books to read - I always like a book and ideally a few rules to help me with narrowing down options.

Everyonelovessparkles · 20/05/2018 08:18

I guess you’ve already looked on Pinterest for some ideas lib re decorating? I find this useful. What I have done in the past is decided on a colour then looked for stuff to fit that theme. But I had firm ideas on what colour I wanted. If you are unsure of colours maybe try a few paint pots or have a general perusal of items to suit either scheme to see which there are more of / you start to like best. Regarding over size furniture. Depending on how big the rooms are, an interior designer told one of my friends to think more about hotels than homes. Sorry, probably not much help.

Back to the royal wedding Grin i loved the Stella McCartney evening dress. Again, so simple and chic.

DryWhiteagainW · 20/05/2018 09:20

Still dress was stunning.......just watched highlights again. Such a fab day.

Liberty it’s overwhelming. If you’re doing structural work, dont decorate.
I’d start with kitchens and bathrooms because they’re relatively straightforward ie no soft furnishings, not too much furniture to think of. Just cupboards, bathroom fittings, plugs, taps, tiles, the boring stuff really.
A friend of mine advised me years ago to do one room at a time, and totally finish it, because atherwise you’ll confused and will end up with half finished rooms. That said, I wouldn’t rush buying the finishing touches as it’s nice collecting these and not compromising.
We put the same coloured carpet throughout the house and then stuck to Same hard floor through the downstairs.
I’d love to come over for a few months and help (after I’ve raided Blingy’s dressing room with shop )
Not sure if any of that is helpful but Pinterest , magazines and poking around other peoples houses were all helpful to get ideas.

MarshaBradyo · 20/05/2018 09:38

Lib my top tip for picking actual products for the house is to choose a supplier you really like and shop from there, or get a sense of brands you like and narrow it down

I don’t know what it’s like in NZ but here we love HAY, E15 and Muuto. This really helps with actual pieces as we have repetition with stuff like light fittings and even two x bookshelf

The sofas are HAY and another one. Hang on I’ll get a link

MarshaBradyo · 20/05/2018 09:46

With a huge house you can enjoy scale and putting stuff in the middle of the room

Hay sofa

Our taste is fairly subdued and modern so first step is what’s the look you’d like. For this I’d plunge into Instagram interiors or Pinterest and start to save pics of what you really like.

Then walls, we’ve nearly finished repainting whole house - here again go with a good brand it makes a difference (I still love Farrow & Ball) and choose a palette. Will be fun to do this considering NZ light. Happy to be a sounding board. Stuff like like lights, paint and curtains I’d go for good quality as will be nice on the eyes

I’d love to help too sounds brilliant.then the fun of the garden and NZ plants

MarshaBradyo · 20/05/2018 09:48

Agree on repetition, so same floor, same carpet. We’ve even gone for same colour curtains (the expense! Shock) throughout bar our room which is slightly darker

VivaVegas · 20/05/2018 09:51

Diving in after many weeks, and asking for help I'm afraid, rubbish time at home at the moment with things not great between DH and I at all. Not sure whats going to happen.
Family holiday booked for half term and as a result of above sh** completely underprepared.
City break, but temps much warmer than expected so my usual jeans during the day isn't going to work, the denim shorts I usually wear on summer holidays in the med seem too short, what the hell do I wear?!
Have seen some longer denim shorts but they don't appeal. Oh and limited time as heading off straight after work on Friday and working all week so will need to be a speedy online delivery.
Please can anyone suggest anything? Thanks

DryWhiteagainW · 20/05/2018 09:58

Sorry to hear this Viva . Would cotton chino ankle grazers work? In a stone colour ? Lovely with white tops. Go with everything, look très européen

DryWhiteagainW · 20/05/2018 09:58

Oh khaki colour?

DryWhiteagainW · 20/05/2018 09:59

A maxi skirt with t shirts?

MarshaBradyo · 20/05/2018 10:18

Viva I’d go for easy to wear summer dresses, not too short. They are actually not easy to find, but would you like High St or more ££, we can have a look
I hope the holiday is ok, sorry to hear about the difficult times Flowers

kittyhello · 20/05/2018 10:21

Viva can you swap jeans for a denim skirt or a jump suit? You can pick up the next day at Waitrose for John Lewis and Next stores, Boden is pretty speedy with their deliveries too.

Loved all the wedding chatter yesterday, I agree she looked beautiful.

Lib your house project sounds exciting. I can't advise as I'm quite haphazard in my approach to decorating.

I picked up some Boots in the Harvey Nicks flash sale

black Toga Pullaa* will have to wait a few months to wear them. Also bought this

rose gold starss*

Shop for bikinis have you tried Vix on the Outnet?

Mara well done on getting through to round 2.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 20/05/2018 11:56

Hello!

Had to pop out for a lovely pub lunch with friends yesterday, but enjoyed the live wedding comments :)

Viva sorry to hear things have been rough at home Flowers What about chino shorts?

Mara excellent news, will keep fingers crossed for you!

I love hearing about your house Lib, so exciting. Listen to the experts Dry and Marsha Grin

I'm going wedding dress shopping with my sister tomorrow, very excited! In the mood after yesterday.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 20/05/2018 12:05

sorry to hear things are pretty rough right now viva i hope things work out in such a way that it works for all of you Thanks

lib how exciting having a house to completely do out! I would definitely start with some pinterest boards and paint samples and take my time choosing, i wouldn't want to rush into a choice and then regret it 3 months later!

Ahhhhhh last of the laundry is in and will then go out on the line, need to decide what i'm wearing to the airport to travel in and must must must finish packing by the end of tomorrow!!!!!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 20/05/2018 13:28

I think I mentioned this before, so sorry to repeat, but I need to think about my post-baby handbag situation and would welcome any advice!

I've pretty much decided I need a medium cross body for my own things (phone, purse, keys etc) and a large tote for baby's things. I don't want a dedicated changing bag - I'll get some sort of bag organiser. I think I want the smaller bag to be a nice treat for myself and I can splurge a bit on that. Suggestions?! (I sold that Gucci I bought as it was way too small!)

For the baby bag, I considered using my le pliage but it's a medium with normal straps and I don't think it's deep enough. I was looking at getting a nice monogrammed leather tote from Leatherology as recommended on Diet Prada's insta account, but thought maybe it was silly to get leather when I could get something wipeable/washable that I don't mind chucking down on the ground. So I'm also considering the Day Birger et Mikkelsen Gweneth bag which is apparently cavernous (and very cheap).

Help me buy 2 bags Voguettes!

QueenCornflower · 20/05/2018 16:55

viva sorry to hear about you and dh. Clothes wise I’d go for knee length dresses or Capri trousers. If you have a Waitrose near you, ordering from JL is a good bet or next do next day delivery. Gap are often pretty quick too and M&S is only 50p more for next day delivery. If culottes are your thing I tried nice ones from warehouse earlier in the week. Both warehouse and oasis usually have a good selection of cotton trousers and often in JL. Uniqlo have lots of trousers too but no idea how quick at delivery they are.
blair the bag thing is really tricky. Over the years with all 3 I had an assortment of different bags.have you got your buggy yet as you’ll want something that can go underneath it or hang on the handles so that you only have to carry your small cross body bag. If you get a normal bag you need to get a folding change mat and then I had a wash bag from cath lidston to put nappies/wipes/nappy bags in. I had a radley changing bag with dd that I loved and with ds a skip hop one which is great as kind of clips on the buggy (bear in mind this was years ago so whether either exist anymore I don’t know). As well as nappies etc you’ll need to fit in a change of clothes (essential for exploding poos) and breast pads and/or bottle if bottle feeding as well as formal etc. Muslins too.

QueenCornflower · 20/05/2018 18:10

for dry. Just seen these whilst looking for something else!

Longislandicetee · 20/05/2018 20:31

Evening! It took me to early this afternoon to get over the hangover from celebrating the Royal WeddingGrin. 10 ladies all dressed up in our fineries including hats, sipping champagne and eating canapés. We cracked the first champagne bottle open at 11.45am and kept it flowingBlush. Was a cracking ceremony and gorgeous day.

Anyone who has seen the picture of my wedding photos will understand how much i love love love wedding Meghan's dress and veil! I had a very simple couture dress too with a 10ft veil (hers was 16 feet) which was hand embroidered with pearls and crystals. I point blank refused to take the veil off because i loved it so much so carried it draped over my arms during the reception. Grin Much as i hate to admit it, cos i can't stand SM, I loved her second dress (and the SM Amal dress). That halter neck line and back is gorgeous. I could see Dry and i in that!

Viva, so sorry you're going through the mill. Stay strong. If i were you, I would look at capri pants or long shorts. Gap and M&S (esp the latter) i have got some lovely capri pants this season.

Lib, I understand the fear of moving into a monster house, and worrying that if you get the decor wrong it is going to be a very expensive mistake. We started off by doing anything that required hacking at bits of structure or wall. We did all the electronics first. We put in speaker ceilings in most of the rooms in the house, had the cctv put in and cameras, upgraded the alarms and smart connected every room. We also put in the cinema. I know it all sounds very fancy but if you're planning on doing anything like this, best to do it before any decoration. On the decor itself, i did a room by room consultation with 2 interior designers - one from Laura Ashley and the other from John Lewis. I found both sessions really useful in trying to sort out in my head exactly what i wanted. The whole house needed redecorating so we did it in 3 tranches, we did all the bedrooms one year, the more public rooms the next year and finally we are currently doin the rest of the house - we missed last year because i got sick. I don't regret doing it that way, but i do regret not sorting out what i wanted in the hallway and landings earlier, because they really pull a house together. Best to think through furniture while you're thinking decor but don't buy anything as it make it easier for the decorates to go around. Will your house have carpets? Our order has been electronics - walls - carpets - furniture - decorative accessories. Also have a look at a website called Houzz for ideas. The only books i got were 2 that were to do with the decorating a house from the period that my house was built. Bit of a ramble, hope that helps!
