I'm in Japan everyone is wearing wide leg jeans/trousers I feel really dated in my skinnies, anyone else feel the same?

I have been looking for decent straight leg jeans for ages- I only have a gap outlet locally and they don’t have them yet. Wary of buying online but I might have to.

AuntieStella · 06/04/2018 21:06

I'm stockpiling skinnies.

Because I really don't like other jeans shapes (bought no new ones at all in the 90s) and hate it when a staple shape vanishes for a while.

TeaAddict235 · 06/04/2018 21:43

I agree with the posters who said that you should wear what you like and what suits your body shape. I'm slender and a waist size 8-10, or size zero for gap/ j crew us stuff. Bootleg, wide ankles and mom jeans don't look good on me. Skinnies and leggings look ok, and straight legged cords. My DSis looks amazing in jeggings and mom jeans, but then she inherited a small waist, flat tummy and nice bum. Who cares if they are "out of fashion"? You feel confident in well fitted clothes and colours. Don't be a slave to fashion, that's uncool.

My black skinnies are now washed out and I'm trying so hard to not replace them...but there are some things I have that need skinnies

I have kept my wide legged jeans from yonks ago...wore them last year once and felt well out of place. I may be 'in' this year!

I have some wide legged 3/4 jeans too with turn ups that may get an airing when it warms up

boot cut jeans are at the back somewhere too

PasstheStarmix · 06/04/2018 21:50

Fashion keeps going back around again. Ish I’d have kept all my jeans from college and they’d now be back in fashion!

Wish*

Wondering if I can resurrect my skinny flares for Summer. Love them, but have also grown to love proper skinny jeans in the last year due to weight loss.
I really don't suit wide leg jeans that are baggy from the waist down.

SenecaFalls · 06/04/2018 21:58

I like skinnies. They are certainly still around in the US, but then we tend to be a bit behind the styles in the UK and the rest of Europe. High-waisted all cotton jeans are everywhere, but they don't look like the mom jeans of the 90s to my mind. The ones that I have seen and tried on are trimmer and more figure-flattering than those 90s numbers.

I live in the South so in about a month it will be too hot for jeans. By the time late autumn rolls around, who knows what will be out there to buy.

Trivia tidbit: Tina Fey coined the term "mom jeans."

DrowningEveryDay · 06/04/2018 22:02

I hope the 70s flares come back — I wore those in early 2000s and they made my legs look crazy longer. The wide legs now start getting wide right below the hip.

wejammin · 06/04/2018 22:13

I love my wide leg jeans and flares. However I also hate skipping out of the door on the school run into a light drizzle and by the time we get to school having heavier jeans than a small car and then getting home and having to tuck the bottoms down the radiator to dry.

Skinnies in the rain are my friend.

AuntieStella · 06/04/2018 22:23

Wouldn't it be nice if the basic jean shapes - skinny, straight, tapered, bootcut (and/or wider flare) were available all the time ?

SenecaFalls · 06/04/2018 22:28

And the cut between skinny and straight which around these parts is referred to as slim-leg. That's my favorite.

peonylover22 · 06/04/2018 22:28

Okay so I’m willing to be weaned off my skinnies but only as far as slim or straight legs because wide legs look silly with boots and ballet pumps and that’s what I wear on my feet most of the time. I actually think slim / straight would be more flattering on me (pear shape) as my figure would look a bit more balanced.
But where on earth are you meant to buy them? I’m looking for something in a tall length + curvy cut (size 12 but cut for a booty and a narrower waist) and I might as well ask for the moon on the stick...

DrowningEveryDay · 06/04/2018 22:57

There are slim/straights in Topshop

Mercurial123 · 06/04/2018 23:06

I wear flatform slip on trainers with my cropped wide leg trousers they are so comfortable a lot of people on here don't like them. For me it's not about following fashion after ten years of wearing skinny jeans I'm so bored of them.
