Skinny Jeans Look Really Dated?

I'm in Japan everyone is wearing wide leg jeans/trousers I feel really dated in my skinnies, anyone else feel the same?

I remember having this same conversation about 15 years ago about if bootlegs were dead.

17yo fashionable bought what I would call some mum jeans the other week.

Bimbaloo · 06/04/2018 15:55

Yes they do suddenly look a bit dated, especially the ultra skinny ones. And even more so when worn with heels as Kate Middleton is doing in this photo. Skinnies only look good with flats or ankle boots imo.

Skinny Jeans Look Really Dated?

All the cool student types where I live (near an art college) have definitely given up on skinnies.

Bugjune · 06/04/2018 16:04

I'm wearing ivory bootcut cords today with sneakers and no fucks given if I'm dated or not. Grin

mamahanji · 06/04/2018 17:22

I literally cannot fathom what else there is for me to wear apart from skinny jeans...

I either wear skinny jeans, docs, top and leather jacket or wool coat in winter

Or harem pants and birkenstocks. Or cut off shorts and tights.

I can't imagine how awful my chunky ass body would look in anything cropped or wide led.

OlennasWimple · 06/04/2018 17:28

It's going to be all about bootcuts if we follow Meghan Markle (Which is good for me, as they suit me much better than skinnies)

lolaflores · 06/04/2018 17:29

I bought girlfriend shaped jeans from H&M a few weeks ago. It is a more vintage design. Sits on the waist and not the hips, not flared but a tapered end. Much more flattering as they dont slide down and end up hanging off my non-arse.

Floisme · 06/04/2018 17:38

Maybe I'm fickle but I like it that fashions change. If they didn't we'd still be wearing crinolines.

I think fathoming out how to make a new look work is part of the fun. And I am also a short ass but I find skinny jeans are the trickiest shape of all because when I wear them, there is little I can do to disguise just how short my legs are.

I was watching an early episode of Friends last night and thinking Rachel’s outfit was very similar to what my 15year old niece was wearing...mom jeans, cropped t shirt and white Stan Smiths! A few years ago I would have guffawed at how old hat that looked. Everything comes back into fashion if you hang on to it for long enough...as me old Mum used to say!

Peanutbuttercups21 · 06/04/2018 18:22

Still lots of skinnies where I live!

Not ready to give them up yet, but happy to browse around for wide legged trews now Grin

Scabetty · 06/04/2018 18:27

My ds 15 yo is wearing cropped looser style like bad dad jeans Confused

Glug44 · 06/04/2018 18:29

Wide leg jeans look terrible.

Kochicoo · 06/04/2018 19:16

Following on from reading this thread, I was paying more attention to what people were wearing (I work in said trendy coastal uni city) today and the cool kids are not wearing skinnies. Lots of wide or straight cropped and mum jeans. I've only just realised that skinnies do look a bit dated now. They can obviously still look good but it's not a look that will catch my eye or send me off on an envy-induced shopping mission.

FluffyMcCloud · 06/04/2018 19:18

I’m overweight and wide leg looks awful on me! I’ve got ok legs (apple shape) so skinny jeans much better as gives me an actual shape, wide leg make me look like a massive oblong.

Tantpoke · 06/04/2018 19:42

Koch were they local though or day trippers?

Do you know anyone local wearing wide leg, straight cropped or mom jeans ie friends, work mates etc.

MumUndone · 06/04/2018 19:42

Boot cut are the way forward IMO.

Madcatter · 06/04/2018 19:45

What are you meant to wear on your feet with wide leg jeans?

I get cold and can't stand having bare ankles in anything other than the warmest weather. I live in skinnies and boots from September to June and then skinnies and flats for 2 months!

Also I have no hips or arse and look swamped and shapeless in anything other than tight fitting jeans. Another one who's not relinquishing the skinnies any time soon!

taytotayto111 · 06/04/2018 19:49

I will not give up my skinnies I wear super skinny and they suit me so well. I think different shapes suit different people and you should go with what suites you and you’re comfortable in.

GooodMythicalMorning · 06/04/2018 19:54

Bootcut all the way

PrimalLass · 06/04/2018 20:02

I always thought most women looked like Miss Piggy in skinnies, especially when they were paired with high heels, so its a blessing really!

I always think that people who post things like this don't realise they are insulting others on the thread or know and don't care and do it anyway.

Whwhywhy · 06/04/2018 20:03

Megan Markle is wearing boot cut jeans and a fleece in that link. Has she nicked my mums clothes circa 1994?

Gwenhwyfar · 06/04/2018 20:04

"Buy both. I have skinny jeans for when I want to wear them, and wear wide leg trousers a lot, too. "

Yes, but now I have a lot of long, loose tops to go with skinny jeans.

EggysMom · 06/04/2018 20:08

Bootcut is coming back? Woohoo, I'll be fashionable again!

Laquila · 06/04/2018 20:39

I feel like I’ve been wearing skinnies since birth but I know that can’t be true...I do vaguely remember having some frayed-waist flared jeans with a button fly from Topshop in about 2002 that I considered the height of cool. God knows what shoes I wore with them though?! This is also my current problem - what do you wear with wide-leg jeans if it’s not warm and dry??

I have Hush boyfriend jeans for summer, with sandals, but am still happy with skinnies for winter - not the drainpipe ones in that Kate Middleton photo - longer and more like a slim-leg than those, which are almost spray-on.

shins · 06/04/2018 20:54

I love wide leg trousers and welcome their return! I am old enough for this to be my third time round (first time when I was a little girl in the 70s, then as a young woman in the 90s)
