Boden and Crocs - the middle class uniform

milge · 08/05/2007 17:44

I have just come back from a stay at Boden Central - Bedruthan Steps, and after a very "matching" week, I am not buying Boden again. Virtually everyone, adult and child alike, had one piece of Boden on at any one time. 2/3rds of the kids, and 1/3rd adults had Crocs, the other women had birkies, the men Timberlands.

I guess its because I don't live in the south east that i hadn't realied how much of a middle class uniform has developed. I am going to suggest to Johnnie that he has a seconds sale at the hotel, or at the very least a permanantly manned stall.

I now need to find dd some new shoes, get dh some new swimming trunks, and burn ds's "baggies".

hmm i think you must have been staying near me!

KathyMCMLXXII · 08/05/2007 17:53

It must be the south then because I have only seen one pair of Crocs in town so far, one in a garden centre and one pair when we went on holiday in the Gower.

Mind you, we went to an open day at a Buddhist retreat centre on Sun and there were two.

Gobbledigook · 08/05/2007 18:00

the boys' swimming instructor wears the by the pool - isn't that what they are for?

LIZS · 08/05/2007 18:05

are crocs recyclable otherwise the landfills will be full of bright plastic come this time next year !

PedroPony · 08/05/2007 18:05

ditto ds3s

mamatres · 08/05/2007 18:07

ooh i've always wanted to go to Bedruthen Steps. what was it like (apart from the boden and crocs)?
mmm, we have alot of boden and dcs want some crocss so they cn get those jibbet things to go in the funny holes. i wear birkies and havaianas, dh has birkis and we both have hairy toes. does that mean we are middle class then?

Enid · 08/05/2007 18:08

leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewds of crocs in dorset (home of johnneee)

acutally not THAT much boden

PeachyChocolateEClair · 08/05/2007 18:09

The kids have crocs but I've only seen one other with them around this way (south east wales)

mine wear crocs and asda. A sort of confused midle-working class uniform, which is about right for us LOL

ChocolateFace · 08/05/2007 18:12

milge. that's Cornwall for you. Or is it just the way people dress when they go to Cornwall?

NKF · 08/05/2007 18:14

Crocs and Boden as a combination. You could be right. I don't get it myself. Crocs too weird for words. And Boden? Nice for kids but the women's stuff. What is that man on? Does he say: "I know. Here's a nice T shirt. Let's add a ruffle to the neckline and a bit of ribbon to the bottom. And some embroidery on the sleeves. There we are. That'll be £45 please."

Kelly1978 · 08/05/2007 18:15

Loads of both round here, and I've had tons of boden dressed women coming up to me and commenting on the dts crocs, or asking where they can get some. I liked it when it was original to wear crocs.

manictreecreature · 08/05/2007 18:16

god, when i go to cornwall i am mostly wearing scruffy shorts and a vest top and flip flops...am I letting the side down?

but that boden and crocs uniform ain't filtered this far north yet.

charmkin · 08/05/2007 18:19

I live in middle class central (Richmond), but I don't think I would recognise Boden at all - it just looks like everything else.

Plenty of Crocs though.

Is Boden more of a thirties/forties thing? Most of the people in their twenties around here are in designer skinnies and all stars, or still in their Uggs.

Nightynight · 08/05/2007 18:46

ugh at crocs. they just make me think of hairy legs. And in my shoe size, they'd look more like cargo boats.

thequeenofcontradiction · 08/05/2007 18:52

I have crocs, but I don't think I'd wear them if my feet were any bigger than a size 4. In fact I got them in a size 3 (£10 cheaper!)

ChocolateFace · 08/05/2007 18:57

I have bright pink Crocs, and my feet are size 7. That's why I can't wear them out of the house.

Tickle · 08/05/2007 19:08

my feet are size nine, so I wear men's flip flop crocs. God they are the comfiest shoes ever...

Agree about the uniform thing - sort of like living in a bubble
