Boden and Crocs - the middle class uniform

I have just come back from a stay at Boden Central - Bedruthan Steps,and after a very "matching" week, I am not buying Boden again. Virtually everyone, adult and child alike, had one piece of Boden on at any one time. 2/3rds of the kids, and 1/3rd adults had Crocs, the other women had birkies, the men Timberlands.

I guess its because I don't live in the south east that i hadn't realied how much of a middle class uniform has developed. I am going to suggest to Johnnie that he has a seconds sale at the hotel, or at the very least a permanantly manned stall.

I now need to find dd some new shoes, get dh some new swimming trunks, and burn ds's "baggies".

I have still never seen an adult wearing crocs.

I saw a dad wearaing orange crocs this morning, dropping his dd off at school. I immediately thought, he must be a nice bloke. Then wondered why I thought that.

Walton-on-Thames is only a few miles from us. I wouldn't have thought of it as Boden teritory, but then i only went there once for a football match.

Today I saw croc immitations (made in China rather than Mexico where I believe the originals are made) for £3 children's and £5 adults' in East Ham.

Down here in Cornwall we can spot the Tourist by looking for Boden!! Crocs are V popular down here as well because they are great for the beach, although you won't find any Cornish on the beaches in the summer because we can't park for all the holiday makers, bless 'em!!

I don't even know what "Boden" looks like! Does it have the name on things?!

And I have knock-off crocs! 4th of July ones that I got last year while visiting the in-laws.

There go my pretentions to middle class!

Actually, does it still go that women take on their husbands class cos he's American and therefore classless (as in without a place in the class system! Not actually classless!) or by virtue of living over here has he taken on my working classness which I can never apparently scrub away even if we live a middle class life.
