Boden and Crocs - the middle class uniform

milge · 08/05/2007 17:44

I have just come back from a stay at Boden Central - Bedruthan Steps, and after a very "matching" week, I am not buying Boden again. Virtually everyone, adult and child alike, had one piece of Boden on at any one time. 2/3rds of the kids, and 1/3rd adults had Crocs, the other women had birkies, the men Timberlands.

I guess its because I don't live in the south east that i hadn't realied how much of a middle class uniform has developed. I am going to suggest to Johnnie that he has a seconds sale at the hotel, or at the very least a permanantly manned stall.

I now need to find dd some new shoes, get dh some new swimming trunks, and burn ds's "baggies".

ChocolateFace · 08/05/2007 19:17

Bikies and hairy legs, maybe, but surely smooth tanned legs with Crocs?

Mum2FunkyDude · 08/05/2007 19:18

Maybe it is all the people on holiday in Cornwall that's wearing the crocs etc. not the locals, like "Bradford-by-the-sea" kind of thing.

ChocolateFace · 08/05/2007 19:19

Well I don't wear my Crocs aout of the house in the midlands, but when we go to Cornwall in the summer, I shall wear them all the time.

We are middle class. We do not shop at Boden. My children do not wear crocs.

mosschops30 · 15/05/2007 10:14

I dont know anyone that wears Boden, in fact I'm not sure what it is really.
I have CROCS but my feet are only a size 4, TBH dont see much of them round here either

moopymoo · 15/05/2007 10:15

crocs - why oh why urgh. not middle class, fashion victim.
boden - love it. unapologetically. love getting lovely boden parcel. clothes fab quality .
also shop at primark though! though, wear for wear, boden cheaper.
am happy to be middle class. am actually classless.

QueenofTwee · 15/05/2007 10:19

I've got one boden dress, but that was from 3 years ago...

Depends if you are a middle-class leader or follower

I like to think I'm a leader...
I'm into fairtrade recycled/eco stuff......i.e. People Tree/ Green Baby Enamore...which even if possibly very self-conciously middle class to some, at least is better for the planet!

QueenofTwee · 15/05/2007 10:21

no crocs either btw....but terra plana and green shoes yes, yes, yes!

ggglimpopo · 15/05/2007 10:34

I showed my dh a pair of crocs when we were in Paris (haven't seen any in BOrdeaux). He thinks they would be perfect for 'hunting crustacea'.

Jazzicatz · 15/05/2007 10:47

Hahahahahaha, think this thread is so fuuny. I live in Oxfordshire, I wear Boden because it fits and lasts well, I WOULD NEVER wear crocs. The posh birds around here do not wear Boden they are in designer stuff, as far as they are concerned Boden is for fuddy duddy mothers, which I probably am!!

BonyM · 15/05/2007 10:56

Boden is great quality and kids' stuff in particular is lovely.

Crocs are incredibly ugly and imo rather common .

currantbunmum · 15/05/2007 11:12

Bedruthan Steps In June - Check

Boden Clothes - Check

Crocs - Not a chance!

Think! (very funky German clogs) - Check

I think Crocs are DEAD common now,>

Can I share your cover BonyM?

Boden and Croc just DO NOT go together - Boden boring, styleless, frumpy. Croc - very 'fashion' of the moment, funky.

Personally I don't like or have either.

Listmaker · 15/05/2007 13:16

I've NEVER bought Boden or even looked at it and I think Crocs are ugly but they are sooooo comfortable! I bought some to go to Florida much to my 5 dds' disgust but they saved my life over there with all the walking round!

By the end of day 2 all 5 of the dds had Disney crocs! They look cutest on the youngest one of course! They won't wear them here though so I adopted one red pair! I also got some Mary Jane bright pink ones over there as they are half the price of over here.

I have size 7 feet and think they actually make my feet look smaller in a wierd way!

I have moved to a really middle class area now and there are plenty of people wearing them so I do wear them out but still not really sure they're me!! LOADS of them in America though and brilliant at the beach!

dueat44 · 16/05/2007 17:48

Boden proliferation warning! They are opening another shop, in Walton on Thames this time (within a few miles of me, wonder why
