S&B rule breaking

onlyonaTuesday · 20/03/2018 22:27

So today I broke the ultimate S&B rule and had a mum bob hair cut and I also bought a pair of sketchers for a city break 🙈

Anyone else want to confess their fashion faux pas??

I hate skinny jeans. They are uncomfortable and don't suit me. I love boot cut jeans, theyblook good on me.

I also wear leggings under dresses as I don't like tights.

YoohooDorothy · 23/03/2018 16:49

I love a long top over leggings when i'm looking after my baby. I don't want to lose circulation in my legs from sitting on the floor in jeans

I wear black tights often, even in summer

I own pop socks because i can't stand wearing bare feet with shoes when i can't get away with socks or aforementioned black tights

My nighttime 'wardrobe' is really scruffy

MixedHerbs · 23/03/2018 16:50

Well my sister walked in the other day and said 'oh, I see you have your Arsenic and Old Lace outfit on today', so I must have been particularly baddity bad.

Bluefrontdoor · 23/03/2018 17:13

leggings and uggs/trainers are my go to wear.
I cannot contour my face
I have no idea what to highlight
Clinique 3step works for me
I wear powder foundation
I regularly leave the house with no make up and hair tied up in a bog standard pony tail not a messy bun, or ‘up do’
I’m sure I have many more sins, I have my own style, I may not be chic and on trend but I don’t think I’m dowdy for my age I’m comfy thus happy. I love seeing the chic women on the school run with their heels and cold feet, designer coat that can’t handle the rain and perfect make up that must mean they wake a 5am

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 23/03/2018 17:21

I wear leggings and boot cut and stripey Breton tops
I wax nothing and never get my nails done
I love M&S
I pay zero attention to fashion and wear what I fancy
I am 46 and don’t care :)

lolli18 · 23/03/2018 18:22

I don't wash my makeup of before bed.
I always wear black leggings and black coat.
I haven't had my hair cut in over a year and it looks scraggly and horrible
I draw my eyebrows on and always fail to make it look natural
I've been with my partner for 5 years and wouldn't let him directly look at my vagina or see my eyes without mascara

Aren't I a bloody good one

TeaAddict235 · 23/03/2018 18:35

"I've been with my partner for 5 years and wouldn't let him directly look at my vagina or see my eyes without mascara"

lolli, try 10 years and I still feel no shame.

One more to add:

I rummage Poundland for my make up

....leaves the room and turns the light off.

Crabbishelle · 23/03/2018 19:28

I used to read a well known style blogger

she was clearly a nice, helpful, principled woman who offered a much better and more “normal” viewpoint than all the “fashion mags” out there (don’t get me started on the shite women’s mags)

But after a while I realised her advice was just a bit ridiculous?

She was very naturally physically attractive (slender and blonde with regular features) so quite frankly she could have put on anything and still looked amazing.

She was all about:

-no “sports gear” . Yes, but she worked as a full time stylist/blogger. No children and a well off husband (who ended up working full time in her blog) There was no acknowledgement that some days one just doesn’t have the mental energy to coordinate matching things. A puffer, trainers, baseball cap, black sports leggings and a black sports top actually looks fine and can be flattering and means I don’t need to pack separate workout gear (see Meghan Markle)

  • no Uggs. See above.
  • I also think she encouraged everyone to be very overstyled. It looked great on HER because she was tiny and thin and blonde with regular features. But it veered towards “overdone” on anyone else.
lolli18 · 23/03/2018 20:11

@TeaAddict235 haha glad I'm not the only one lol x

TeaAddict235 · 23/03/2018 20:54

Seriously @lolli18 , if your eyes are your best feature, it's best that he's looking at them quite frankly, n'est-ce que pas?

runningdoll · 23/03/2018 21:18

I wear cullots and don't care what anyone says, I don't look either ridiculous or like an American tourist.

I have a (mum?) bob, with an undercut for good measure.

I mostly CBA to wear make up, so on the very rare occasion that I actually wear foundation I wear some Lancome that I bought around 8 years ago, it appears to be just the same it was the day I bought it despite the fact I should have thrown it out years ago.

keepingbees · 23/03/2018 22:36

I have a graduated bob.
I wear leggings.
I don't own many shoes I tend to keep wearing the same go-with-anything black boots/ballet pumps.
I do my own eyebrows.
I wear cheap make up.
I buy most of my clothes from charity shops, purely because I love a bargain Grin

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 24/03/2018 00:35

I love trench coats and own 3. I wear leggings with dresses. I just got my nose pierced at 30. I've had a graduated bob. Sometimes I randomly dye sections of my hair funny colours just because.

I have zero interest in getting my colours done. An online quiz told me I’m an autumn and suit brown. I do not want to walk round looking like a turd.
I have curly hair and brush it. Combs are not enough to de-knot/care for my thick hair. Nor do I use the curly girl method. I looked it up once and was confused. The hell is 3c hair??

I don’t really commit many other S and B sins.

toffee1000 · 24/03/2018 03:07

Re the colours thing: spending four hours with a bunch of strangers, watching them getting their colours done sounds like my idea of absolute hell. And paying £££ for the privilege. Fuck off.

toffee1000 · 24/03/2018 03:08

Sorry for another one but: I don’t have a leather jacket, but I wouldn’t go for an All Saints one. None of the styles appeal to me. I don’t want loads of random belts and zips and straps everywhere.

Tisgrand · 24/03/2018 04:02

Oh and I don't believe in "investment" dressing. I don't want to look at the same few expensive tasteful items in my wardrobe for the next ten or twenty years. I shop in Primark and h&m and the quality is just fine!

JanettheNotebookJunkie · 24/03/2018 06:04

I think Zara is the Emperor's New Clothes of the high street. it is full of unflattering tat and if that's what on trend looks like, I'll stick to Hobbs thank you.

I've never had a facial.

doodlejump1980 · 24/03/2018 06:29

I have found my people!
I don’t wear make-up. Love a leggings and tunic combo and also don’t follow the curly-girl method for my hair. 😂

MiniTheMinx · 24/03/2018 06:47

Another one here who doesn't do curly girl, it's a mad oversized birds nest. I often wear my hair up with lots of big bows in it.
I wear leggings with short dresses, old man's lambswool cardigans, DM boots with everything, apparently I look like a cross between Amy Winehouse and an indie girl circa 1990.
I wear black mostly, but sometimes I wear clashing colours, like pink and orange with purple. I love stripy over the knee socks with kilts and wear two big bunches on the top of my head which make me look like a "cross rabbit" and I don't give a hoot about eyebrows, age, handbags, or looking put together. I look thrown together and it suits me. I'm 45 and dressed just the same at 15.

lolli18 · 24/03/2018 07:50

Haha :)

MiniTheMinx · 24/03/2018 08:10

Probably

calmandbright · 24/03/2018 08:15

I wear band t-shirts, and I like men’s jumpers from charity shops.
