Should I buy a velvet blazer?

I am lusting after a black velvet blazer in the Massimo Dutti sale. It’s beautiful. But I’m a bit confused about velvet... Coukd I wear it out in the evening in spring / summer or will I look ridiculous? If so, will it still be fashionable next winter or have I missed the velvet boat?

Just bought the navy blazer. Fingers crossed 14 will fit me. I never wear blazers but this one is beautiful!

Thanks for this thread OP. I also succumbed to the velvet blazer - love it and the fit is perfect.

I have an ancient collarless black velvet blazer that I am very attached to but tbh i only really wear it autumn/winter. I’ve had it for years though, and it still looks good.

IMO if it looks well-cut, it doesn’t really matter what style it is - it won’t easily date.

Well the green boiled wool blazer was unlined and a bit meh. Going back.

The size 14 velvet blazer does indeed fit beautifully and am very tempted. But I'm not sure how much wear I would get out of it.

Keep it! You’ll always regret getting rid of something beautiful that fits well.
I too am yet to wear mine, but that is only because my going out is somewhat hampered by having a child... I do have a few things coming up and am planning to wear the blazer over my new whistles dress (more shopping 🙈) out for fancy dinner, and also over camisoles / silk tops with black jeans.

I collected mine today and sadly it doesn't fit me brilliantly, it gapes around the waist. I'm an hourglass so I've had this problem before. Hmm Not sure if it's worth trying a 12 as I think the shoulders would be too snug and/or sleeves too short.

Having another look at the photos the model wearing it is showing about three inches of wrist, so maybe that's a thing - ?

Lovely item though (gorgeous colour) and very useful.

I have the blue velvet blazer, it is great, have had loads of compliments.

That’s sad TheFirst
@TweenageAngst what have you been wearing your blazer with?

Grey skinny jeans, white tailored shirt, chunky silver necklace.
More formally grey tailored trousers, crepe de chine blouse or silk cami. and feeling brave red jeans

Oooh lovely ideas Tweenage
