Wrap dresses, whats that about?

Is the idea that the wrap dress is universally flattering for women? Is that why its always touted as a classic piece? Do you wear them?

Who does good ones?

They really suit me. I used to have loads but they do look a bit dated now. Good news if they are making a comeback although I can’t say I have seen anyone wearing them yet.

ferrier · 08/02/2018 08:32

I live them and the one posted above would really suit me. I'm small/medium busted and quite straight up and down so they give the illusion of more waist and more bust than I actually have.

ferrier · 08/02/2018 08:34

What price range / quality are you looking at? From the budget end I have some lovely dresses and tops from New Look and H&M.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 08/02/2018 09:23

I'm tall and slim with broad shoulders and a big bust and I look like a drag queen in a wrap dress.

Amber0685 · 08/02/2018 09:27

I like them, I have narrow hips and smallish bust so they give me a bit of cleavage and waist.

PorklessPie · 08/02/2018 09:30

I bought this one, wore it yesterday. I'm petite 5ft 2, small bust. It looked really nice, I wore a longline cami underneath. I've never ordered anything from jack wills before but the dress didn't have a logo or anything on.

I like them, they seem to suit me. Medium bust, tall, slim. I do worry about showing too much cleavage though, so I don’t wear them for work.

MaureenNervosa · 08/02/2018 09:32

I prefer dresses that have a wrap skirt and waist shaping but no tie belt.

I have to be very careful with the V-neck, tie belt, flared skirt style of wrap dress as it can look frumpy or cheap on me.

MaureenNervosa · 08/02/2018 09:33

Am short with big boobs and hips, smallish waist.

Amber0685 · 08/02/2018 09:35

Sorry to answer your question I have 2 from fcuk last season though

Paintbox · 08/02/2018 09:36

Look at a mother’s edit, she wears a lot of wrap dresses and looks fab in them

TheVeryThing · 08/02/2018 10:29

I have just bought one for the first time as they never looked good on me previously.
Perhaps it's because I'm a stone or so overweight at the moment? I'm a pear shape & need to wear a vest top underneath.
I also have a couple of dresses with a wrap top and that is easier to wear, I think.
I tried on several from asos but some just didn't seem to have enough fabric on the bottom half and I was worried about revealing my thunder thighs to the world.

sportyfool · 08/02/2018 10:31

I think they just look better on an hourglass figure to be fair . You need a waist . I've bought some lovely wrap tops lately . They are very flattering with jeans .

Argeles · 08/02/2018 10:47

I have 1 from French Connection - plain, and fabulous quality.

1 from Phase Eight - beautiful pattern, fabulous quality, and very flattering and comfortable.

1 from Marisota - gorgeous pattern, very flattering on waist, and shows off tits very well. Size comes up a bit large.

2 from Dorothy Perkins - lovely patterns, and very boob enhancing. Very good fit.

2 from M&S - one is plain and the fabric is gorgeous, but neckline is too high and not as flattering on me. The other one is patterned, but unfortunately started shrinking after 2 washes!

squishysquirmy · 08/02/2018 15:09

I have biggish boobs and a saggy tummy. I find them flattering because the way the fabric diagonally drapes across my stomach sort of distracts from the shape of my stomach, iyswim and v-necks suit me. I do have to add a couple of stitches close up the "V" a bit more or they gape too much I find.

The downside is when my small child, who is always hanging off my clothes, accidentally pulls the belt undone. Blush

TheClitterati · 08/02/2018 15:49

I'm large of nork, size 18, but comparatively in proportion. Totally made for wrap dresses. I wear them all summer.

LidlAngel · 08/02/2018 16:07

I'm short with a big bum and small boobs. They always make me look dumpy and always gape around my boobs. In my head I'll look great in one, in practice they make me go WTF?

goose1964 · 08/02/2018 16:12

I have a few when they were last in fashion. Not to be worn on windy days

TheClitterati · 08/02/2018 16:36

I make my own from a pattern designed for curvy women - no gaping at all. Brilliant.

WellTidy · 08/02/2018 16:39

I am a size 10-12 but with small boobs and a belly. They look dreadful on me. My belly looks massive and my boobs aren't big enough to balance me out. I have tried loads including the massive section that phase eight have at various times of year online.

Thistlebelle · 08/02/2018 16:42

I have an hour glass figure and they look good on me, but you are right they aren’t for everyone.

They look better with a reasonable quality of fabric. I have nice wrap dresses from Baukjen, Hobbs, Boden and Phase Eight.

UnimaginativeNameChange1 · 08/02/2018 16:44

Broad of shoulder, small of boob, quite tall - wrap dresses make me look like a man. I look better in jeans and hoodie.

crackerjacket · 08/02/2018 19:29

Love that green one

crackerjacket · 08/02/2018 19:30

That's cute as well, porklesspie

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 08/02/2018 19:32

I'm short and the wrap part tends to come to low down on me and the look awful.
