Anyone else not like bootcut jeans?

Just that really? I keep reading that they are back and really flattering so I tried a pair of slim bootcut jeans. Good fit but the flappy bottom material looks weird and they make my (not very long) legs look short and dumpy. Is it just conditioning? I am small and fairly curvy, so I thought these would be made for me but apparently not ...

Mary if you know what suits you then you've cracked the hardest part. Smile I mostly just try and stay current by watching what other people wear and hanging around shops like H&M - not so much to buy these days, but to see what they're selling and how they're styling it. That and spending far more time on here than is good for me. And posters are right that it doesn't have to be a straight choice between skinny and bootcut. You might like 'girlfriend' or 'boyfriend' shape which are looser in the leg than skinnies but more or less straight. In fact they're really just a fancy name for 'straightleg' although some are slightly tapered. They're often worn rolled up at the ankle although I'm giving that a miss until spring comes around.

I normally never say 'never again' but please remind me to stay away from cargo trousers this time.

I liked the trousers that were shaped like cargo trousers but without the silly thigh pockets - sort of wider than a straight leg but not as wide as a wide leg! Had 3 or 4 pairs in the late 90s/early 2000s - anyone know what they might have been called?! They were a mid weight cotton/ drill type fabric.

Battleax · 17/01/2018 16:40

Weren't they cargo as opposed to combat?

Battleax · 17/01/2018 16:41

I mean, they WERE cargo and it was combats that had the pockets?

MikeUniformMike · 17/01/2018 16:43

combat trousers were renamed cargo pants after combats became old-fashioned.

MikeUniformMike · 17/01/2018 16:44

They were called fatigues when I were a lass. And khaki is not green, it's a cacky light brown.

Battleax · 17/01/2018 16:45

Hmm, now my memory's wobbling.

This all fees a very long time ago Smile

squoosh · 17/01/2018 16:45

I remember working with a girl about 15 years ago and she wore these really baggy, voluminous trousers with strings coming out of them. They were usually neon pink. They were like combat trousers on acid. But I can’t remember what they were known as.

Mrstumbletap · 17/01/2018 16:46

I love them! I'm so glad they are back.

Bought myself some bootcut office trousers the other day and they are lovely. Look great with an ankle boot.

I have big feet and anything that hides them a bit are a win for me.

Battleax · 17/01/2018 16:47

Oh I know. Like extreme combats? There were health warnings about those. DM moral panics, the lot.

squoosh · 17/01/2018 16:48

Didn't combat trousers have a mini renaissance about five years ago? I seem to remember one of the premium denim brands (J Brand maybe) bringing out skinny combat jeans and they were a big thing with celebs like Cheryl Cole for a few months.

bananafish81 · 17/01/2018 16:56

Parachute pants! Wore them with my little camouflage print strappy vest and buffalo trainers trying to be the 5th member of All Saints, circa 1997

Battleax · 17/01/2018 16:56

And VB. With vertiginous heels. Yes I remember. It looked silly Grin

squoosh · 17/01/2018 16:57

Parachute pants! Them's da ones!

I had skydiving trousers in my mind but when I googled it it didn't look quite right Grin

Battleax · 17/01/2018 16:58

Did you get trapped in any train doors or escalators banana?

squoosh · 17/01/2018 17:01

Stunning!

Anyone remember maharishis with the dragons on them?

I had a pair of rip-off orange ones from H&M, I thought I was the biz.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 17/01/2018 18:55

Dragons! Oh yes! I had a hanky top with dragons on and various friends had them on dresses, t-shirts and bags. They were 2000's stags/pineapples/flamingos/unicorns!

MaryLennoxsScowl · 17/01/2018 18:58

I also remember parachute pants but you couldn't get them in the wilds of Scotland.

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 17/01/2018 19:34

Bananafish, you and me

I have pictures of me in parachute pants, strappy vest top and (bizarly) andbandana/headscarf style.... my brother started calling me GI Jane

I was 30 and a grown up

What was I thinking??!!

bananafish81 · 18/01/2018 09:58

Oh god. Maharishis (never had a pair but thought they were amazing)

Handkerchief tops I had almost blotted from my memory but this thread has brought it all rushing back

Don't recall getting trapped in escalators with my parachute pants but I probably wore them with my parka from the previous year when I was in my indie Oasis / Blur / Pulp phase

It was indeed a look

TheDowagerCuntess · 19/01/2018 08:59

Ivanka Trump on Instagram today in serious bootcuts.

Itmakesthereaderreadon · 19/01/2018 19:29

Combat pants worn low so my thong almost showed and com b at boots from the army/navy stall on the market, worn with a tight crop. I'm the wrong -sorry-
Other side of 35; won't be wearing that combination again. Not worn a thong in about 13 years.

Tanaqui · 21/01/2018 07:51

Oh lord yes- the whale tail (back of thong above low rise jeans for any young ones!). Haven’t seen one of them in years!

Maccapacca88 · 21/01/2018 10:16

I hate boot cuts! I'm an arseless wonder and they make me look ridiculous.
